천국 비유
1“그때 하늘 나라는 마치 저마다 등을 가지고 신랑을 맞으러 나간 열 처녀와 같을 것이다.
2열 처녀 중에 다섯은 어리석고 다섯은 슬기로웠다.
3어리석은 처녀들은 등을 가졌으나 기름이 없었고
4슬기로운 처녀들은 등에 기름을 채워 두었다.
5그러나 신랑이 늦도록 오지 않자 처녀들은 모두 졸다가 잠이 들었다.
6그런데 한밤중에 ‘자, 신랑이 온다. 맞으러 나오너라!’ 하고 외치는 소리가 들렸다.
7그때 처녀들은 다 일어나 저마다 등을 손질했다.
8어리석은 처녀들이 슬기로운 처녀들에게 ‘우리 등불이 꺼져가는데 너희 기름을 좀 주겠니?’ 하자
9슬기로운 처녀들이 대답하였다. ‘너희에게 기름을 나눠 주면 우리도 모자라고 너희도 모자랄 거야. 차라리 가게에 가서 사다 쓰지 그러니?’
10그러나 미련한 처녀들이 기름을 사러 간 사이에 신랑이 왔다. 그래서 준비한 처녀들은 신랑과 함께 결혼 잔치에 들어가고 문은 닫혔다.
11그 후에 미련한 처녀들이 와서 ‘주님, 주님, 문을 열어 주십시오’ 하고 부르짖었다.
12그러나 신랑은 ‘내가 분명히 말하지만 나는 너희를 전혀 알지 못한다’ 하고 대답하였다.
13그러므로 깨어 있어라. 너희는 그 날과 그 시간을 알지 못한다.
14“또 하늘 나라는 여행을 떠나면서 종들을 불러 자기 재산을 맡긴 사람과 같다.
15주인은 각 사람의 능력에 따라 한 사람에게는 다섯 25:15 1달란트는 6,000데나리온. 1데나리온은 하루 품삯. 하루 품삯을 10,000원으로 계산할 경우 5달란트는 3억 원, 2달란트는 1억 2천만 원, 1달란트는 6천만 원달란트를, 또 한 사람에게는 두 달란트를, 다른 한 사람에게는 한 달란트를 각각 맡기고 여행을 떠났다.
16다섯 달란트 받은 사람은 곧 가서 그것으로 장사하여 다섯 달란트를 더 벌었고
17두 달란트 받은 사람도 두 달란트를 더 벌었다.
18그러나 한 달란트 받은 사람은 가서 땅을 파고 주인의 25:18 원문에는 ‘은’돈을 묻어 두었다.
19오랜 후에 주인이 돌아와 그들과 셈을 하게 되었다.
20다섯 달란트 받은 사람이 다섯 달란트를 더 가지고 와서 ‘주인님, 제게 다섯 달란트를 맡기셨는데 보십시오, 다섯 달란트를 더 벌었습니다’ 하고 말하였다.
21그래서 주인이 그에게 ‘잘하였다, 착하고 충실한 종아, 네가 작은 일에 충실하였으니 내가 너에게 많은 일을 맡기겠다. 너는 주인의 기쁨에 참여하여라’ 하였다.
22두 달란트 받은 사람도 와서 ‘주인님, 제게 두 달란트를 맡기셨는데 보십시오, 두 달란트를 더 벌었습니다’ 하고 말하였다.
23그래서 주인은 그에게도 ‘잘하였다, 착하고 충실한 종아, 네가 작은 일에 충실하였으니 내가 너에게 많은 일을 맡기겠다. 너는 주인의 기쁨에 참여하여라’ 하였다.
24그런데 한 달란트 받은 사람은 와서 ‘주인님, 저는 주인님이 아무 수고도 하지 않고 남이 심고 뿌려 놓은 것을 거둬들이는 지독한 분으로 알았습니다.
25그래서 저는 두려워서 주인님의 돈을 땅 속에 묻어 두었다가 가져왔습니다. 보십시오, 주인님의 돈이 여기 있습니다’ 하였다.
26그때 주인이 이렇게 대답하였다. ‘악하고 게으른 종아, 네가 나를 그런 사람으로 알았느냐?
27그렇다면 내 돈을 은행에 맡겼다가 내가 돌아왔을 때 이자와 원금을 함께 받도록 했어야 하지 않느냐?
28그가 가진 한 달란트를 빼앗아 열 달란트 가진 사람에게 주어라.
29누구든지 있는 사람은 더 받아 넘치게 되고 없는 사람은 있는 것마저 빼앗길 것이다.
30이 쓸모없는 종을 바깥 어두운 곳에 내쫓아라. 거기서 통곡하며 이를 갈 것이다.’
31“25:31 원문에는 ‘인자’ (사람의 아들)내가 영광 중에 모든 천사들과 함께 와서 내 영광의 보좌에 앉을 것이다.
32그리고 모든 민족을 내 앞에 모으고 목자가 양과 염소를 갈라 놓듯 사람들을 갈라 놓아
33양은 오른편에, 염소는 왼편에 세울 것이다.
34그때 왕이 오른편에 있는 사람들에게 ‘내 아버지의 복을 받은 사람들아, 와서 세상이 창조된 때부터 너희를 위해 준비된 나라를 물려받아라.
35너희는 내가 굶주릴 때 먹을 것을 주었고 목마를 때 마실 것을 주었으며 나그네 되었을 때 너희 집으로 맞아들였고
36벗었을 때 입을 것을 주었고 병들었을 때 간호해 주었으며 갇혔을 때 찾아 주었다’ 고 말할 것이다.
37그러면 의로운 사람들이 ‘주님, 언제 우리가 주님이 굶주리신 것을 보고 음식을 대접하였으며 목마르신 것을 보고 마실 것을 드렸습니까?
38언제 우리가 주님이 나그네 되신 것을 보고 우리 집으로 맞아들였으며 벗으신 것을 보고 입을 것을 드렸습니까?
39또 언제 우리가 주님이 병드신 것을 보고 간호해 드렸으며 갇혔을 때 찾아갔습니까?’ 하고 말할 것이다.
40그때 왕은 그들에게 ‘내가 분명히 말하지만 너희가 이들 내 형제 중에 아주 보잘것없는 사람 하나에게 한 일이 바로 내게 한 일이다’ 하고 말할 것이다.
41“그런 다음 그는 왼편에 있는 사람들에게 ‘저주를 받은 사람들아, 너희는 내게서 떠나 마귀와 그 부하들을 위해 준비된 영원한 불에 들어가거라.
42너희는 내가 굶주릴 때 먹을 것을 주지 않았고 목마를 때 마실 것을 주지 않았으며
43나그네 되었을 때 너희 집으로 맞아들이지 않았고 벗었을 때 입을 것을 주지 않았으며 병들고 갇혔을 때 돌보지 않았다’ 고 말할 것이다.
44그러면 그들도 ‘주님, 언제 우리가 주님이 굶주리신 것이나 목마르신 것이나 나그네 되신 것이나 벗으신 것이나 병드신 것이나 갇히신 것을 보고 돌보지 않았습니까?’ 하고 말할 것이다.
45그때 왕은 그들에게 ‘내가 분명히 말하지만 너희가 이 보잘것없는 사람 하나에게 하지 않은 일이 곧 내게 하지 않은 일이다’ 하고 말할 것이다.
46그렇게 해서 이 사람들은 영원한 형벌을 받는 곳에, 의로운 사람들은 영원한 생명을 누리는 곳에 들어갈 것이다.”
The parable of the ten virgins
1‘At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
6‘At midnight the cry rang out: “Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!”
7‘Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8The foolish ones said to the wise, “Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.”
9‘ “No,” they replied, “there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.”
10‘But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
11‘Later the others also came. “Lord, Lord,” they said, “open the door for us!”
12‘But he replied, “Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.”
13‘Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
The parable of the bags of gold
14‘Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,25:15 Greek five talents… two talents… one talent; also throughout this parable; a talent was worth about 20 years of a day labourer’s wage. each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
19‘After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. “Master,” he said, “you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.”
21‘His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!”
22‘The man with two bags of gold also came. “Master,” he said, “you entrusted me with two bags of gold: see, I have gained two more.”
23‘His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!”
24‘Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. “Master,” he said, “I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.”
26‘His master replied, “You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28‘ “So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 30And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
The sheep and the goats
31‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34‘Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was ill and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
37‘Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you ill or in prison and go to visit you?”
40‘The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
41‘Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was ill and in prison and you did not look after me.”
44‘They also will answer, “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or ill or in prison, and did not help you?”
45‘He will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.”
46‘Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.’
