8¶ Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. 9For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.3.9 language: Heb. lip3.9 consent: Heb. shoulder 10From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine offering. 11In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain.3.11 because…: Heb. in my holy 12I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD. 13The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

1罪と汚れに満ちたエルサレム、
暴力と犯罪の町は災いだ。
2おごり高ぶって、神の声にさえ耳を貸そうとしない。
だれもこの町と話ができない。
あらゆる懲らしめを拒んでいるからだ。
主に信頼せず、神を求めようとしない。
3エルサレムの指導者たちは、
獲物を求めてほえるライオンのようだ。
手に入れることができるなら、
どんなものでもねらっている。
裁判官たちは日暮れの飢えた狼のようだ。
明け方には、獲物の痕跡を残さない。
4エルサレムの預言者たちは
自分の利得を求める偽り者だ。
祭司たちは律法に背いて、神殿を汚している。
5しかし、主はそんな町の中にいても不正を行わない。
日に日に神の正義が明らかになる。
ところが、だれも注意を払わない。
悪者たちは恥知らずだ。
6「わたしは多くの国を切り捨て、
その全領域を荒廃させた。
通りは荒れはてて静まり返り、町々は、
何が起こったかを思い出す者は
一人も残らないまま見捨てられた。
7わたしは思った。
『今こそ、彼らはわたしの言うことを聞くだろう。
確かにわたしの警告に耳を傾けるから、
二度と打つ必要はない』と。
ところが、そうではなかった。
どんなに罰しても、夜明けから夕暮れまで、
夕暮れから夜明けまで、悪を行っている。」
8それでも、主はこうお語りになる。
「もう少しの我慢だ。
悪に染まったこの国々を告発するために
わたしが立ち上がる時が、すぐにくる。
地上の国々を一つに集め、
最も激しい怒りと憤りを下すと決めている。
全地は、わたしのねたみの炎で焼き尽くされる。
イスラエルの残りの者の回復
9その時、戻って来るわたしの民の語ることばを
純粋なヘブル語に変え、
全員が共に主を礼拝できるようにする。
10散らされたわたしの民で
エチオピヤの川の向こうのスーダンに住んでいる者も、
ささげ物を携えて来て、
もう一度彼らの神になってくれるよう、わたしに願う。
11その時あなたは、
もうわたしに反逆しないので、恥じ入る必要はない。
あなたの中から、
高ぶっている横柄な人々を取り除く。
わたしの聖なる山に、
おごり高ぶる者は一人もいなくなる。
12残された者は貧しく謙遜な人々で、主の名に信頼する。
13罪を犯さず、偽りを言わず、欺くこともない。
静かで平和な生活を送り、安らかに眠りにつく。
だれにも脅やかされることがない。」
14シオンの娘よ、歌え。イスラエルよ、叫べ。
エルサレムの娘よ、心から喜び楽しめ。
15神はさばきの手を引っ込め、
あなたの敵の軍を追い散らすからだ。
イスラエルの王である主ご自身が、
あなたのうちに住む。
ついにあなたの苦しみは終わる。
もう恐れる必要はない。
16その日、エルサレムに告げ知らされる。
「元気を出せ。恐れるな。
17-18あなたの神、主が、
あなたのうちに住むために到着したからだ。
この方は力ある救い主で、勝利をお与えになる。
あなたのことをことのほか喜ぶ。
あなたを愛し、責めることはなさらない。」
聞こえてくるのは、
喜びにあふれた聖歌隊の歌声だろうか。
いや、神が、あなたがたのことを喜び、
歌っているのだ。
「わたしは傷ついた者を集め、あなたの恥を取り去ろう。
19また、あなたを虐げた者をきびしく扱おう。
頼る相手のいない弱い者を救い、
追い払われた者を集めよう。
捕囚としてあざけられ、
辱めを受けたわたしの民に誉れを与えよう。
20その時、わたしはあなたがたを呼び集め、連れ戻そう。
そして、全地のあらゆる国民の間で抜きん出た、
りっぱな名を授けよう。
あなたがたの目の前で、あなたがたを元どおり繁栄させる時、
彼らはあなたがたを称賛する。」
このように主が言う。
