1Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down. 2And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down. 3And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech’s: 4And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.4.4 I thought…: Heb. I said, I will reveal in thine ear 5Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
6¶ And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it. 7Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel. 8Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.
9¶ And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, of the hand of Naomi. 10Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day. 11And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Beth-lehem:4.11 do thou…: or, get thee riches, or, power4.11 be famous: Heb. proclaim thy name 12And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.

18¶ Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron, 19And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab, 20And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,4.20 Salmon: or, Salmah 21And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed, 22And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
โบอาสแต่งงานกับรูธ

ชายผู้นั้นตอบว่า “ข้าพเจ้าจะไถ่”
5โบอาสจึงบอกว่า “ในวันที่ท่านซื้อที่ดินจากนาโอมีและจากรูธชาวโมอับ ท่านจะได้4:5 หรือจากนาโอมี ท่านจะได้รูธหญิงชาวโมอับภรรยาม่ายของผู้ตายด้วย เพื่อสืบนามของผู้ตายต่อไปบนที่ดินอันเป็นกรรมสิทธิ์ของเขา”
6เขาตอบว่า “ถ้าเช่นนั้นข้าพเจ้าไม่สามารถไถ่ได้ เพราะทรัพย์สินส่วนของข้าพเจ้าอาจเสียไป ขอท่านไถ่ไว้เองเถิดเพราะข้าพเจ้าไม่สามารถทำได้”
7(ในครั้งนั้นเป็นธรรมเนียมในอิสราเอลสำหรับการไถ่และการตกลงโอนสิทธิ์ในทรัพย์สิน โดยฝ่ายหนึ่งถอดรองเท้าออกมามอบให้อีกฝ่ายหนึ่ง เป็นการยืนยันข้อตกลงตามกฎหมายในอิสราเอล)
8ฉะนั้นขณะที่ชายผู้นั้นพูดกับโบอาสว่า “ท่านซื้อเองเถิด” เขาก็ถอดรองเท้าออกมา
9โบอาสจึงประกาศกับบรรดาผู้อาวุโสและคนทั้งปวงว่า “ท่านทั้งหลายเป็นพยานว่าในวันนี้ข้าพเจ้าซื้อทรัพย์สินทั้งหมดของเอลีเมเลค คิลิโอน และมาห์โลนจากนาโอมี 10พร้อมกันนี้ข้าพเจ้าได้ขอรับรูธหญิงชาวโมอับ ภรรยาม่ายของมาห์โลน มาเป็นภรรยาของข้าพเจ้าด้วย เพื่อนางจะได้มีบุตรสืบนามของผู้ตายกับกรรมสิทธิ์ของเขา เพื่อนามของเขาจะไม่ขาดหายไปจากวงศ์ตระกูลหรือทะเบียนราษฎร ท่านทั้งหลายเป็นพยานในวันนี้!”
11บรรดาผู้อาวุโสและคนทั้งปวงซึ่งยืนอยู่ที่ประตูเมืองจึงกล่าวว่า “เราเป็นสักขีพยาน ขอองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงให้หญิงผู้นี้ซึ่งก้าวเข้ามาสู่เหย้าเรือนของท่านจงเป็นเหมือนราเชลและเลอาห์ ผู้ซึ่งร่วมกันสร้างวงศ์ตระกูลอิสราเอล ขอให้ท่านยิ่งใหญ่ในเอฟราธาห์และมีชื่อเสียงดีในเบธเลเฮม 12และขอให้ลูกหลานซึ่งองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจะประทานแก่ท่านจากหญิงสาวผู้นี้ คือขอให้ครอบครัวของท่านเป็นเช่นครอบครัวของเปเรศซึ่งทามาร์คลอดให้กับยูดาห์”

13ดังนั้นโบอาสจึงรับรูธมาเป็นภรรยาและอยู่กินกับนาง องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงโปรดให้นางตั้งครรภ์ และคลอดบุตรชายคนหนึ่ง 14พวกผู้หญิงกล่าวกับนาโอมีว่า “สรรเสริญองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าผู้ซึ่งในวันนี้ไม่ได้ทรงให้เธอปราศจากญาติซึ่งมีสิทธิ์ไถ่ ขอให้เขามีชื่อเสียงเลื่องลือทั่วอิสราเอล! 15เขาจะฟื้นฟูชีวิตของเธอและเลี้ยงดูเธอยามเธอแก่ชรา เพราะเขาเกิดจากลูกสะใภ้ซึ่งรักเธอ และดีกับเธอยิ่งกว่าลูกชายตั้งเจ็ดคน”
16นาโอมีรับเด็กมาอุ้มใส่ตักและเลี้ยงดูเขา 17หญิงเพื่อนบ้านกล่าวว่า “นาโอมีมีลูกชาย” เขาตั้งชื่อเด็กนั้นว่าโอเบด โอเบดเป็นบิดาของเจสซีซึ่งเป็นบิดาของดาวิด
