1My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding: 2That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3¶ For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:5.3 mouth: Heb. palate 4But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. 5Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. 6Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them. 7Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. 8Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house: 9Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel: 10Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;5.10 thy wealth: Heb. thy strength 11And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, 12And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; 13And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! 14I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15¶ Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. 16Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. 17Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee. 18Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. 19Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.5.19 satisfy…: Heb. water thee5.19 be thou…: Heb. err thou always in her love 20And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? 21For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
22¶ His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.5.22 sins: Heb. sin 23He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

1Hør på mine visdomsord, min søn,
lyt til den indsigt, jeg har,
2så du kan leve dit liv i visdom
og vælge dine ord med omtanke.
3En utro kvindes ord er søde som honning,
hendes smiger glider ned som smør,
4men bagefter bliver den bitter som malurt,
skarp som et tveægget sværd.
5Hun haster mod døden,
hendes skridt fører lige til dødsriget.
6Hun er ligeglad med livets vej,
hun er på afveje, men ved det ikke.
7Hør godt efter, min søn,
læg mærke til, hvad jeg siger:
8Hold dig fra en anden mands kone,
kom ikke i nærheden af hendes hus.
9Ellers spilder du din rigdom på en fremmed kvinde,
bruger dine bedste år på at føje et grusomt menneske.
10Fremmede mennesker vil feste på din bekostning
og nyde frugten af dit slid og slæb.
11Når det hele er forbi, vil du græmme dig,
når du ser, hvordan du ødelagde dit liv.
12„Gid jeg havde lyttet til min fars formaning!”
vil du sige til dig selv.
„Havde jeg dog bare hørt efter!
13Jeg adlød ikke mine vejledere,
rettede mig ikke efter deres råd.
14Nu er mit liv ødelagt,
og min synd er offentligt kendt.”
15Drik vand fra din egen beholdning,
det rene vand fra din egen brønd.
16Brug ikke din livskraft på fremmede kvinder,
men lad kærligheden blomstre i dit eget hjem.
17Sats på at elske din egen kone
i stedet for fremmede kvinder.
18Lad Gud velsigne din egen livskilde,
glæd dig over din ungdoms hustru,
19din turteldue, dine øjnes fryd.
Glæd dig ved hendes bryster
og berus dig i hendes kærlighed!
20Hvorfor vil du lade dig forføre
af en fremmed, en anden mands kone?
21Husk på, at Herren ser alle dine handlinger,
han lægger mærke til alt, hvad du gør.
22Den ondes synder bliver hans skæbne,
han fanges i sine handlingers fælde.
23Han dør af mangel på selvdisciplin,
hans tåbelighed styrter ham i graven.
