1Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. 2For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. 3For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. 4He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. 5Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. 6Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. 7Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. 8Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. 9She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.4.9 a crown…: or, she shall compass thee with a crown of glory 10Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. 11I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. 12When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. 13Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
14¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. 15Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. 16For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. 17For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. 18But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. 19The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
20¶ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.4.22 health: Heb. medicine

1Децо, послушајте очев прекор
и будите пажљиви да се научите из поуке.
2Јер ја вам добар савет дајем,
стога не запостављајте поуку моју.
3Јер ја сам био очев син
и мили јединац мајке своје.
4Он ме је учио и говорио ми:
„Нека ти срце прионе чврсто уз речи моје,
држи се мојих заповести и живећеш.
5Стичи мудрост! Стичи разумевање!
Не заборављај и не отуђуј се од онога што ти казујем.
6Не напуштај мудрост и она ће те чувати,
воли је и браниће те.
7Мудрост је најважнија! Стичи мудрост!
Са свом својом стечевином ти стичи разумевање.
8Уздижи је и уздигнуће те,
величаће те јер си је пригрлио.
9Прелепи венац ће ти ставити на главу,
даће ти славну круну.“
10Сине мој, послушај и прихвати речи моје
и много ће година живота твога бити.
11Упућујем те путем мудрости
и праведним те стазама водим.
12Ноге ти неће клецати док ходаш
и нећеш посртати док будеш трчао.
13Држи се опомене и не напуштај је.
Брани је, јер ти је она живот.
14Не иди стазом покварењака
и не следи пут зликоваца.
15Клони га се и не иди њиме,
окрени се од њега и иди даље!
16Јер они не спавају ако зло не нанесу,
сан им је украден ако кога не саплету.
17Јер они једу хлеб безакоња
и насиља вино пију.
18А стаза је праведника попут светла зоре које осваја
и светли док дан не осване.
19Док је стаза покварених мрачна,
па они и не знају о шта се све спотичу.
20Сине мој, пази на моје речи
и приклони ухо своје казивањима мојим.
21Нека се не одмичу од очију твојих
и чувај их усред срца свога.
22Јер су оне живот онима што их нађу
и здравље су целом телу њиховоме.
23Од свега што се чува ти највише чувај срце своје,
јер су у њему извори живота.
24Од себе одбаци непоштен говор
и обману усана далеко баци од себе.
25Очи твоје нек гледају право,
испред себе ти прикуј свој поглед.
26Поравнај стазу корака свога
и безбедни ће бити сви твоји путеви.
27Не скрећи ни десно ни лево
и корак свој уклони од зла.
