1今日一日、何が起こるかわからないのに、
明日の予定を得意になって話してはいけません。
2自分で自分をほめるより、
人からほめられるようにしなさい。
3神に背く者は、思いどおりにならないと
腹を立て、手のつけようがありません。
4怒られるよりも、嫉妬されるほうが怖いものです。
5愛するあまり、
悪いことをしても何も注意しないより、
しかるときははっきりしかるほうがよいのです。
6敵にうわべだけ親切にされるより、
友に傷つけられるほうがましです。
7腹がいっぱいだと、
どんなごちそうもまずく感じますが、
腹がすいていると何でもおいしく食べられます。
8家を離れてあちこち渡り歩く人は、
巣を離れてさまよう鳥のようです。
9友に励まされるのは、
香水をつけたように気持ちのよいものです。
10自分の友でも父の友人でも、
彼らを大事にしなさい。
いざというとき、
遠くの親類よりあてになります。
11わが子よ。知恵のある人間になりなさい。
そうすれば、
私もどんなに鼻が高いことでしょう。
12何かを始めるとき、
思慮深い人はきちんと見通しを立てますが、
考えの足りない人は
向こう見ずに手をつけて失敗します。
13見ず知らずの人の借金を立て替える以上に
危ない賭けはありません。
14朝まだ暗いうちに大声であいさつすると、
いやがられます。

王位はいつまでも続きません。
だから自分の収入や、家畜の状態を知っておきなさい。
25-27牧草を刈り取り、二番草も刈り取ったあと、
山の草を集めなさい。
そうすれば、子羊の毛もやぎの乳も十分に取れ、
家族の生活に困りません。
