1부드러운 대답은 분노를 가라앉혀도 과격한 말은 분노를 일으킨다.
2지혜 있는 자는 지식이 돋보이게 말하지만 미련한 자는 어리석은 말만 지껄여댄다.
3여호와께서는 어디서든지 악한 사람과 선한 사람을 지켜 보신다.
4따뜻하고 부드러운 말은 생명 나무와 같아도 잔인한 말은 사람의 마음을 상하게 한다.
5자기 아버지의 가르침을 무시하는 사람은 미련한 자요 자기 아버지가 타이를 때 듣는 사람은 슬기로운 자이다.
6의로운 사람의 집에는 보물이 많아도 악인의 소득에는 문젯거리가 많다.
7지혜로운 사람은 지식을 전하지만 미련한 사람은 그렇지 못하다.
8여호와께서 악인의 제사는 미워하셔도 정직한 사람의 기도는 기뻐하신다.
9여호와께서 악인의 길은 미워하셔도 의를 추구하는 사람은 사랑하신다.
10진리를 저버리는 자는 엄한 벌을 받을 것이며 책망할 때 듣지 않는 자는 죽게 될 것이다.

12거만한 사람은 책망받기를 싫어하며 지혜로운 사람에게 찾아가지 않는다.
13마음의 즐거움은 얼굴 표정을 밝게 하고 마음의 근심은 심령을 상하게 한다.
14지혜로운 자는 지식을 추구하지만 미련한 자는 어리석음을 즐긴다.
15고통당하는 자의 삶은 비참하나 마음에 기쁨을 가진 자는 항상 즐겁기만 하다.
16가난하지만 여호와를 두려운 마음으로 섬기는 것이 부유하면서도 늘 번민 속에 사는 것보다 낫다.
17채소를 먹어도 서로 사랑하는 것이 살진 소를 먹으면서 서로 미워하는 것보다 낫다.
18성미가 급한 사람은 다툼을 일으켜도 좀처럼 화를 내지 않는 사람은 시비를 그치게 한다.
19게으른 자의 길은 가시밭과 같고 정직한 자의 길은 고속 도로와 같다.
20지혜로운 아들은 자기 아버지를 즐겁게 하여도 미련한 아들은 자기 어머니를 업신여긴다.
21무지한 사람은 어리석음을 좋아하지만 지혜 있는 자는 바른 길을 걷는다.
22조언을 해 주는 사람이 없으면 계획한 일이 실패하여도 조언을 해 주는 사람이 많으면 계획한 일이 성공한다.
23대답 한마디 잘해서 사람이 기쁨을 얻는 일은 얼마든지 있다. 제때에 적절한 말을 한다는 것이 얼마나 귀한 일인가!
24지혜로운 사람은 위에 있는 생명의 길을 향하므로 아래 있는 15:24 또는 ‘음부를’지옥을 떠나게 된다.
25여호와는 교만한 자의 집을 허시고 과부의 재산은 보호하신다.
26여호와께서 악인의 생각은 미워하셔도 15:26 또는 ‘선한 말은 정결하니라’마음이 순결한 사람의 생각은 기뻐하신다.
27부정 이득을 탐하는 자는 자기 가족에게 해를 끼치지만 뇌물을 싫어하는 자는 살 것이다.
28의로운 사람은 대답할 말을 깊이 생각하여도 악인은 악한 말을 마구 내뱉는다.
29여호와께서 악인은 멀리하시지만 의로운 사람의 기도는 들으신다.
30밝은 표정은 마음을 기쁘게 하고 기쁜 소식은 건강에 좋다.
31좋은 책망을 들을 줄 아는 사람은 지혜로운 자이다.
32타이르는 말을 무시하는 것은 자기 자신을 멸시하는 것이지만 책망을 달게 받으면 깨달음을 얻는다.
33여호와를 두려워하면 지혜를 얻는다. 15:33 또는 ‘겸손은 존귀의 앞잡이니라’사람은 영예를 얻기에 앞서 먼저 겸손해야 한다.
