1穏やかに答えれば相手の心を静め、
激しいことばでやり返すとけんかになります。
2良い教師がいれば学習が楽しくなり、
無力な教師は益にならないことをまくし立てます。
3主はあらゆる所で、
悪人も正しい人も一人残らず見張っています。
4優しいことばは人を元気づけ、
不平は人の気をくじきます。
5愚かな子ほど父親の忠告を見くびり、
利口な子ほど、ひと言ひと言を熱心に聞きます。
6正しい人は裕福になり、悪者は収穫を得ても、
めんどうなことに巻き込まれます。
7人を教えられるのは知恵のある人だけで、
神に背く者にはとてもできません。
8主は悪者の供え物を憎み、正しい人の祈りを喜びます。
9-10主は悪者の行いをきらい、
正しく生きようとする人を愛します。
しかし途中で心変わりしたら、
きびしい罰が待っています。
その罰を受け入れなければ死ぬだけです。
11地獄の深遠まで知っている主には、
人の心など手に取るようにわかります。
12人をさげすむ者は、しかられるのをきらって、
知恵のある人を避けようとします。
13楽しければ顔が輝き、
悲しければ顔が曇ります。
14知恵のある人は熱心に真理を求め、
人をさげすむ者はつまらないことに熱中します。
15気が重いと何もかも悪く見え、
気分がいいと、いつも喜んでいられます。
16財産があるばかりにあれこれ気を遣うより、
貧しくとも主を信じて生きるほうが幸せです。
17憎む者といっしょにごちそうを食べるより、
愛する人と質素な食事をするほうが幸せです。
18気の短い者はすぐにけんかを始め、
冷静な人はその場をうまく収めます。
19怠け者は年中問題をかかえ込み、
誠実な人は平和な一生を送ります。
20分別がある息子は父親を喜ばせ、
反抗的な息子は母親を悲しませます。
21愚かなことをして喜ぶのは、
何かが間違っている証拠です。
分別の備わった人は正しい道を踏みはずしません。
22良い助言をくれる人が少ないと計画は失敗し、
多いと成功します。
23良い助言は喜びをもたらし、
時宜にかなったことばは、
いかにすばらしいものか。
24神を恐れる人の道は天国へ上る道。
地獄からはどんどん遠ざかります。
25主は高慢な者を破産させ、
未亡人を心に留めます。
26主は悪者の計画を憎み、
親切なことばを喜びます。
27不正を働いて得た金は家族みんなを不幸にし、
わいろを憎むことは幸福をもたらします。
28正しい人はよく考えてから話し、
悪者は見境なく悪いことばを吐き出します。
29主は悪者とは距離を置き、
正しい人の祈りを聞きます。
30生き生きした目の輝きと良い知らせは、
人を喜ばせ、力づけます。
31-32有益な批判を取り入れるのは賢い人です。
批判を拒絶すれば自分をだめにします。
33主を恐れ、謙遜に生きる人は知恵を身につけ、
人の称賛を得ます。
