What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem? 6Therefore I will make Samaria as an heap of the field, and as plantings of a vineyard: and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will discover the foundations thereof. 7And all the graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay desolate: for she gathered it of the hire of an harlot, and they shall return to the hire of an harlot.

1در دوران سلطنت يوتام و آحاز و حزقيا، پادشاهان يهودا، خداوند اين پيام را دربارهٔ اورشليم و سامره، به صورت رؤيا به ميكاه مورشتی داد.
مجازات سامره و اورشليم
2ای تمام قومها بشنويد! ای همهٔ ساكنان زمين گوش دهيد! خداوند از خانه مقدس خود بر ضد شما شهادت می‌دهد.
3اينک خداوند تخت فرمانروايی خود را در آسمان ترک نموده و از فراز كوهها به زمين می‌آيد. 4كوهها در زير پاهايش مثل موم آب می‌شوند و مانند سيل از بلنديها به دره سرازير می‌گردند.
5تمام اينها به سبب گناهان مردم اسرائيل و يهودا اتفاق می‌افتد. بت‌پرستی و ظلم سامره و اورشليم را كه پايتختهای اسرائيل و يهودا هستند، پر ساخته است.
6خداوند می‌فرمايد: «شهر سامره را به صورت توده‌ای از خاک درمی‌آورم؛ آن را چنان شيار می‌كنم كه بتوان برای كشت انگور از آن استفاده كرد. حصار و قلعه‌های آن را خراب نموده، سنگهايش را به دره می‌ريزم تا بنيادش نمايان شود. 7تمام بتهايش خرد خواهند شد و بتكده‌های آراستهٔ آن كه از هدايای بت‌پرستان ساخته شده به آتش كشيده خواهند شد.»
گريه و ماتم
8من گريه می‌كنم و ماتم می‌گيرم، مثل شغال زوزه می‌كشم و مانند جغد شيون می‌كنم. از غصه و سرافكندگی با پای برهنه و تن عريان راه می‌روم، 9چون زخم قوم من عميقتر از آنست كه شفا يابد. خداوند نزديک دروازه‌های اورشليم آماده ايستاده است تا قوم مرا مجازات كند.
10اين را به شهر جت1:10 در اصل عبری در آيات 10 الی 15 بازی با کلمات ديده می‌شود، و بين اسم هر شهر و مطلبی که در مورد آن شهر آمده رابطه‌ای وجود دارد: «جت» به معنی «گفتن» است، «بيت‌عفره» به معنی «خانهٔ خاک»، «شافير» به معنی «زيبا»، «صعنان» به معنی «بيرون آمدن»، «بيت‌ايصل» به معنی «خانهٔ پهلويی»، «ماروت» به معنی «تلخی»، «لاکيش» به معنی «گروه (اسبان)»، «مورشت جت» به معنی «عروس جت»، «اکزیب» به معنی «فريب»، «مريشه» به معنی «مسلط». نگوييد و مگذاريد اهالی آنجا گريهٔ شما را بشنوند! ای ساكنان بيت‌عفره از شدت درد و شرمندگی در خاک بغلتيد! 11مردم شافير عريان و سرافكنده به اسارت برده می‌شوند. اهالی صعنان جرأت نمی‌كنند از خانه‌هايشان بيرون بيايند. وقتی صدای ماتم مردم بيت‌ايصل را بشنويد، بدانيد كه در آنجا پناهگاهی نيست. 12ساكنان ماروت بی‌جهت در انتظار روزهای بهتری هستند، چون خداوند بر ضد اورشليم برخاسته و تلخی و مرارت در انتظار ايشان است.
13ای مردم لاكيش بشتابيد! بر سريعترين عرابه‌های خود سوار شده، فرار كنيد، چون شما اولين شهر يهودا بوديد كه گناه بت‌پرستی اسرائيل را دنبال كرديد و برای ساير شهرها سرمشق شديد.
14ای مردم يهودا، با شهر مورشت جت خداحافظی كنيد، زيرا اميدی برای نجات آن نيست. شهر اكزيب پادشاهان اسرائيل را فريفته است. 15ای مردم مريشه، دشمنانتان بر شما مسلط خواهند شد و بزرگان اسرائيل به غار عدولام پناه خواهند برد.
16برای بچه‌های خود گريه كنيد، چون آنها را از آغوشتان خواهند ربود و ديگر هرگز آنها را نخواهيد ديد. از غصه سرهای خود را بتراشيد، زيرا فرزندان عزيزتان را به سرزمينهای دور دست به اسارت خواهند برد.
