1And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, 2Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified. 3Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him. 5But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.
6¶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, 7There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. 8But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? 9For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. 10When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. 11For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. 12For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. 13Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
14¶ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, 15And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. 16And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
17¶ Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? 18And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. 19And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover. 20Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. 21And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 22And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? 23And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. 24The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. 25Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
26¶ And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom. 30And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. 31Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 32But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. 33Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. 34Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 35Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
36¶ Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. 37And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. 38Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. 40And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. 43And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. 44And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. 45Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
47¶ And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. 49And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. 50And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. 51And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear. 52Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. 53Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? 54But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? 55In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. 56But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
57¶ And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. 58But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end. 59Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; 60But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses, 61And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. 62And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 63But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. 64Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. 65Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. 66What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death. 67Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, 68Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?
69¶ Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. 70But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. 71And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. 72And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. 73And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. 74Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. 75And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
La conspiración contra Jesús
26:2-5 – Mr 14:1-2; Lc 22:1-2
1Después de exponer todas estas cosas, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: 2«Como ya sabéis, faltan dos días para la Pascua, y el Hijo del hombre será entregado para que lo crucifiquen».
3Se reunieron entonces los jefes de los sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo en el palacio de Caifás, el sumo sacerdote, 4y con artimañas buscaban cómo arrestar a Jesús para matarlo. 5«Pero no durante la fiesta —decían—, no sea que se amotine el pueblo».
Una mujer unge a Jesús en Betania
26:6-13 – Mr 14:3-9
6Estando Jesús en Betania, en casa de Simón llamado el Leproso, 7se acercó una mujer con un frasco de alabastro lleno de un perfume muy caro, y lo derramó sobre la cabeza de Jesús mientras él estaba sentado a la mesa.
8Al ver esto, los discípulos se indignaron.
―¿Para qué este desperdicio? —dijeron—. 9Podía haberse vendido este perfume por mucho dinero para darlo a los pobres.
10Consciente de ello, Jesús les dijo:
―¿Por qué molestáis a esta mujer? Ella ha hecho una buena obra conmigo. 11A los pobres siempre los tendréis con vosotros, pero a mí no me vais a tener siempre. 12Al derramar ella este perfume sobre mi cuerpo, lo hizo a fin de prepararme para la sepultura. 13Os aseguro que en cualquier parte del mundo donde se predique este evangelio, se contará también, en memoria de esta mujer, lo que ella hizo.
Judas acuerda traicionar a Jesús
26:14-16 – Mr 14:10-11; Lc 22:3-6
14Uno de los doce, el que se llamaba Judas Iscariote, fue a ver a los jefes de los sacerdotes.
15―¿Cuánto me dais si yo os entrego a Jesús? —les propuso.
Decidieron pagarle treinta monedas de plata. 16Y desde entonces Judas buscaba una oportunidad para entregarlo.
La Cena del Señor

17El primer día de la fiesta de los Panes sin levadura, se acercaron los discípulos a Jesús y le preguntaron:
―¿Dónde quieres que hagamos los preparativos para que comas la Pascua?
18Él les respondió que fueran a la ciudad, a la casa de cierto hombre, y le dijeran: «El Maestro dice: “Mi tiempo está cerca. Voy a celebrar la Pascua en tu casa con mis discípulos”». 19Los discípulos hicieron entonces como Jesús les había mandado, y prepararon la Pascua.
20Al anochecer, Jesús estaba sentado a la mesa con los doce. 21Mientras comían, les dijo:
―Os aseguro que uno de vosotros me va a traicionar.
22Ellos se entristecieron mucho, y uno por uno comenzaron a preguntarle:
―¿Acaso seré yo, Señor?
23―El que mete la mano conmigo en el plato es el que me va a traicionar —respondió Jesús—. 24A la verdad, el Hijo del hombre se irá, tal como está escrito de él, pero ¡ay de aquel que lo traiciona! Más le valdría a ese hombre no haber nacido.
25―¿Acaso seré yo, Rabí? —le dijo Judas, el que lo iba a traicionar.
―Tú lo has dicho —le contestó Jesús.
26Mientras comían, Jesús tomó pan y lo bendijo. Luego lo partió y se lo dio a sus discípulos, diciéndoles:
―Tomad y comed; esto es mi cuerpo.
27Después tomó la copa, dio gracias y se la ofreció diciéndoles:
―Bebed de ella todos. 28Esto es mi sangre del pacto,26:28 del pacto. Var. del nuevo pacto (véase Lc 22:20). que es derramada por muchos para el perdón de pecados. 29Os digo que no beberé de este fruto de la vid desde ahora en adelante, hasta el día en que beba con vosotros el vino nuevo en el reino de mi Padre.
30Después de cantar los salmos, salieron al monte de los Olivos.
Jesús predice la negación de Pedro
26:31-35 – Mr 14:27-31; Lc 22:31-34
31―Esta misma noche —les dijo Jesús— todos vosotros me abandonaréis, porque está escrito:
»“Heriré al pastor,
y se dispersarán las ovejas del rebaño”.26:31 Zac 13:7
32Pero, después de que yo haya resucitado, iré delante de vosotros a Galilea».
33―Aunque todos te abandonen —declaró Pedro—, yo jamás lo haré.
34―Te aseguro —le contestó Jesús— que esta misma noche, antes de que cante el gallo, me negarás tres veces.
35―Aunque tenga que morir contigo —insistió Pedro—, jamás te negaré.
Y los demás discípulos dijeron lo mismo.
Jesús en Getsemaní
26:36-46 – Mr 14:32-42; Lc 22:40-46
36Luego fue Jesús con sus discípulos a un lugar llamado Getsemaní, y les dijo: «Sentaos aquí mientras voy más allá a orar». 37Se llevó a Pedro y a los dos hijos de Zebedeo, y comenzó a sentirse triste y angustiado. 38«Es tal la angustia que me invade que me siento morir —les dijo—. Quedaos aquí y permaneced despiertos conmigo».
39Yendo un poco más allá, se postró sobre su rostro y oró: «Padre mío, si es posible, no me hagas beber este trago amargo.26:39 no … amargo. Lit. que pase de mí esta copa. Pero no sea lo que yo quiero, sino lo que quieres tú».
40Luego volvió adonde estaban sus discípulos y los encontró dormidos. «¿No pudisteis permanecer despiertos conmigo ni una hora? —le dijo a Pedro—. 41Estad alerta y orad para no caer en tentación. El espíritu está dispuesto, pero el cuerpo26:41 el cuerpo. Lit. la carne. es débil».
42Por segunda vez se retiró y oró: «Padre mío, si no es posible evitar que yo beba este trago amargo,26:42 evitar … amargo. Lit. que esto pase de mí. hágase tu voluntad».
43Cuando volvió, otra vez los encontró dormidos, porque se les cerraban los ojos de sueño. 44Así que los dejó y se retiró a orar por tercera vez, diciendo lo mismo.
45Volvió de nuevo a los discípulos y les dijo: «¿Seguís durmiendo y descansando? Mirad, se acerca la hora, y el Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de pecadores. 46¡Levantaos! ¡Vámonos! ¡Ahí viene el que me traiciona!»
Arresto de Jesús
26:47-56 – Mr 14:43-50; Lc 22:47-53
47Todavía estaba hablando Jesús cuando llegó Judas, uno de los doce. Lo acompañaba una gran turba armada con espadas y palos, enviada por los jefes de los sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo. 48El traidor les había dado esta contraseña: «Al que dé un beso, ese es; arrestadlo». 49En seguida Judas se acercó a Jesús y lo saludó.
―¡Rabí! —le dijo, y lo besó.
50―Amigo —le replicó Jesús—, ¿a qué vienes?26:50 ¿a qué vienes? Alt. haz lo que viniste a hacer.
Entonces los hombres se acercaron y prendieron a Jesús. 51En eso, uno de los que estaban con él extendió la mano, sacó la espada e hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote, cortándole una oreja.
52―Guarda tu espada —le dijo Jesús—, porque los que a hierro matan, a hierro mueren.26:52 porque … mueren. Lit. porque todos los que toman espada, por espada perecerán. 53¿Crees que no puedo acudir a mi Padre, y al instante pondría a mi disposición más de doce batallones26:53 batallones. Lit. legiones. de ángeles? 54Pero, entonces, ¿cómo se cumplirían las Escrituras que dicen que así tiene que suceder?
55Y de inmediato dijo a la turba:
―¿Acaso soy un bandido,26:55 bandido. Alt. insurgente. para que vengáis con espadas y palos a arrestarme? Todos los días me sentaba a enseñar en el templo, y no me prendisteis. 56Pero todo esto ha sucedido para que se cumpla lo que escribieron los profetas.
Entonces todos los discípulos lo abandonaron y huyeron.
Jesús ante el Consejo
26:57-68 – Mr 14:53-65; Jn 18:12-13,19-24
57Los que habían arrestado a Jesús lo llevaron ante Caifás, el sumo sacerdote, donde se habían reunido los maestros de la ley y los ancianos. 58Pero Pedro lo siguió de lejos hasta el patio del sumo sacerdote. Entró y se sentó con los guardias para ver en qué terminaba aquello.
59Los jefes de los sacerdotes y el Consejo en pleno buscaban alguna prueba falsa contra Jesús para poder condenarlo a muerte. 60Pero no la encontraron, a pesar de que se presentaron muchos falsos testigos.
Por fin se presentaron dos, 61que declararon:
―Este hombre dijo: “Puedo destruir el templo de Dios y reconstruirlo en tres días”.
62Poniéndose en pie, el sumo sacerdote le dijo a Jesús:
―¿No vas a responder? ¿Qué significan estas denuncias en tu contra?
63Pero Jesús se quedó callado. Así que el sumo sacerdote insistió:
―Te ordeno en el nombre del Dios viviente que nos digas si eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios.
64―Tú lo has dicho —respondió Jesús—. Pero yo os digo a todos: De ahora en adelante veréis al Hijo del hombre sentado a la derecha del Todopoderoso, y viniendo en las nubes del cielo.
65―¡Ha blasfemado! —exclamó el sumo sacerdote, rasgándose las vestiduras—. ¿Para qué necesitamos más testigos? ¡Mirad, vosotros mismos habéis oído la blasfemia! 66¿Qué pensáis de esto?
―Merece la muerte —le contestaron.
67Entonces algunos le escupieron en el rostro y le dieron puñetazos. Otros lo abofeteaban 68y decían:
―A ver, Cristo, ¡adivina quién te pegó!
Pedro niega a Jesús
26:69-75 – Mr 14:66-72; Lc 22:55-62; Jn 18:16-18,25-27
69Mientras tanto, Pedro estaba sentado afuera, en el patio, y una criada se le acercó.
―Tú también estabas con Jesús de Galilea —le dijo.
70Pero él lo negó delante de todos, diciendo:
―No sé de qué estás hablando.
71Luego salió a la puerta, donde otra criada lo vio y dijo a los que estaban allí:
―Este estaba con Jesús de Nazaret.
72Él lo volvió a negar, jurándoles:
―¡A ese hombre ni lo conozco!
73Poco después se acercaron a Pedro los que estaban allí y le dijeron:
―Seguro que eres uno de ellos; se nota por tu acento.
74Y comenzó a echar maldiciones, y les juró:
―¡A ese hombre ni lo conozco!
En ese instante cantó un gallo. 75Entonces Pedro se acordó de lo que Jesús había dicho: «Antes de que cante el gallo, me negarás tres veces». Y saliendo de allí, lloró amargamente.
