1And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. 2And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? 3Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. 4But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 5And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. 6And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
7¶ And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits; 8And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse: 9But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats. 10And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place. 11And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. 12And they went out, and preached that men should repent. 13And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them. 14And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him. 15Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets. 16But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead. 17For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her. 18For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife. 19Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not: 20For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. 21And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee; 22And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. 23And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom. 24And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist. 25And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist. 26And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath’s sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her. 27And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison, 28And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother. 29And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb. 30And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught. 31And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. 32And they departed into a desert place by ship privately. 33And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him. 34And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things. 35And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed: 36Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat. 37He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat? 38He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes. 39And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass. 40And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties. 41And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all. 42And they did all eat, and were filled. 43And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes. 44And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men. 45And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people. 46And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray. 47And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. 48And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. 49But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: 50For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. 51And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. 52For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened. 53And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore. 54And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him, 55And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was. 56And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
Necredința celor din Nazaret
(Mt. 13:54-58; Lc. 4:16-30)
1Isus a ieșit de acolo și a venit în patria Lui. Ucenicii Lui L‑au urmat. 2Când a venit ziua Sabatului, a început să dea învățătură în sinagogă. Mulți, când Îl auzeau, erau uimiți și ziceau: „De unde Îi vin Acestuia aceste lucruri? Ce fel de înțelepciune este aceasta care I‑a fost dată și cum de se fac astfel de minuni prin mâinile Lui? 3Oare nu este Acesta tâmplarul, fiul Mariei3 Multe mss conțin: fiul tâmplarului și al Mariei. Este posibil ca aceste cuvinte să fi fost o jignire la adresa lui Isus, din partea celor din Nazaret (niciodată nu se spunea despre un bărbat că este fiul mamei, ci al tatălui). și fratele lui Iacov, al lui Iose3 O variantă a numelui Iosif., al lui Iuda și al lui Simon? Și surorile Lui nu sunt oare aici, printre noi?“ Și astfel ei se poticneau în El.
4Isus însă le‑a zis: „Un profet nu este fără onoare4 Sau: nu este dezonorat. decât în patria lui, între rudele lui și în casa lui.“ 5Și n‑a putut să facă acolo nicio minune, în afară de faptul că Și‑a pus mâinile peste câțiva bolnavi și i‑a vindecat. 6Și era uimit de necredința lor.
Trimiterea celor doisprezece
(Mt. 10:1, 9-14; Lc. 9:1-6)
Isus străbătea satele de jur‑împrejur, dând învățătură. 7El i‑a chemat pe cei doisprezece și a început să‑i trimită doi câte doi, dându‑le autoritate asupra duhurilor necurate. 8Le‑a poruncit să nu ia nimic cu ei pe drum, decât un toiag – să nu ia nici pâine, nici traistă, nici monede de bronz la brâu, 9ci să se încalțe cu sandale, dar să nu‑și ia două cămăși9 Cămașă lungă de corp, care se purta pe sub haina propriu-zisă.. 10El le‑a mai zis: „În orice casă intrați, rămâneți acolo până când veți pleca din locul acela. 11Și dacă în vreun loc nu vă vor primi și nu vă vor asculta, scuturați‑vă praful de sub picioare când ieșiți de acolo, drept mărturie împotriva lor!“
12Ei au plecat și au predicat că toți trebuie să se pocăiască. 13Alungau mulți demoni și pe mulți bolnavi îi ungeau cu ulei de măsline și îi vindecau.
Ioan Botezătorul decapitat
(Mt. 14:1-12; Lc. 9:7-9)
14Regele14 Este vorba despre tetrarhul Irod Antipa (care a domnit între anii 4 î.Cr.–39 d.Cr.), unul dintre fiii lui Irod cel Mare (care a domnit între anii 37–4 î.Cr.). Tetrarhul domnea peste a patra parte a unei regiuni, fiind inferior unui rege și stăpânind doar cu aprobarea romanilor (vezi Flavius Josephus, Antichități, XVII.11.4). Irod a auzit despre Isus, căci numele Lui ajunsese vestit. Unii ziceau14 Unele mss conțin: El zicea.: „Ioan Botezătorul a fost înviat dintre cei morți și de aceea lucrează aceste puteri prin El!“ 15Alții ziceau: „Este Ilie!“, iar alții ziceau: „Este un profet, ca unul dintre profeți!“
16Dar Irod, când a auzit, a zis: „Ioan acela, pe care l‑am decapitat, a fost înviat!“ 17Căci Irod însuși, după ce a trimis să pună mâna pe Ioan, l‑a legat în închisoare din cauza Irodiadei17 Nepoată a lui Irod cel Mare, căsătorită mai întâi cu Filip, fratele vitreg al lui Irod Antipa (a nu se confunda cu tetrarhul Filip; vezi Lc. 3:1). Vezi Flavius Josephus, Antichități, XVIII.5.4., soția lui Filip, fratele său, deoarece Irod se căsătorise cu ea, 18iar Ioan îi zicea lui Irod: „Nu‑ți este permis s‑o ai pe soția fratelui tău!“18 Cf. Lev. 18:16; 20:21. 19Irodiada îl dușmănea pe Ioan și voia să‑l omoare, dar nu putea, 20pentru că Irod se temea de Ioan, știindu‑l un bărbat drept și sfânt, și îl proteja. Când îl asculta, stătea mult pe gânduri20 Unele mss conțin: Când îl asculta, făcea multe lucruri.; totuși, îl asculta cu plăcere.
21A venit însă o zi potrivită, când Irod, la sărbătorirea zilei sale de naștere, a dat un ospăț nobililor săi, ofițerilor și conducătorilor Galileei. 22Când fiica Irodiadei22 Multe mss conțin: fiica lui, Irodiada. Alte mss conțin: fiica Irodiadei înseși. a intrat și a dansat, lui Irod și celor ce ședeau la masă le‑a plăcut.
Regele i‑a zis atunci fetei:
– Cere‑mi orice dorești și‑ți voi da!
23Apoi i‑a jurat23 Unele mss redau: i‑a jurat mult.:
– Orice‑mi vei cere, îți voi da, până la o jumătate din regatul meu!
24Ea a ieșit și a întrebat‑o pe mama ei:
– Ce să cer?
Aceasta i‑a răspuns:
– Capul lui Ioan Botezătorul!
25Atunci ea a intrat în grabă la rege, cerându‑i:
– Doresc să‑mi dai chiar acum, pe o tavă, capul lui Ioan Botezătorul!
26Regele s‑a întristat foarte tare, dar, din cauza jurămintelor și a celor ce ședeau la masă, n‑a vrut s‑o refuze. 27Și regele a trimis imediat un călău, poruncindu‑i să‑i aducă pe o tavă capul lui Ioan. Acesta s‑a dus, l‑a decapitat pe Ioan în închisoare, 28i‑a adus capul pe o tavă și i l‑a dat fetei, iar fata i l‑a dat mamei sale. 29Când ucenicii lui Ioan au auzit despre aceasta, au venit, i‑au luat trupul și l‑au pus într‑un mormânt.
Isus hrănește peste cinci mii de oameni
(Mt. 14:13-21; Lc. 9:10-17; In. 6:1-13)
30Apostolii s‑au adunat la Isus și I‑au istorisit tot ce făcuseră și tot ce‑i învățaseră pe oameni. 31Isus le‑a zis: „Veniți cu Mine într‑un loc pustiu, doar voi singuri, și odihniți‑vă puțin!“ Căci erau mulți care veneau și plecau, iar ei n‑aveau timp nici măcar să mănânce.
32Au plecat deci cu barca, doar ei singuri, spre un loc pustiu. 33Dar mulți i‑au văzut plecând și i‑au recunoscut, așa că oameni din toate cetățile au alergat pe jos până acolo și au sosit înaintea lor. 34Când a coborât din barcă, Isus a văzut o mare mulțime de oameni și I s‑a făcut milă de ei, pentru că erau ca niște oi care n‑au păstor.34 Vezi Num. 27:17; 1 Regi 22:17; 2 Cron. 18:16; Zah. 10:2. Și a început să‑i învețe multe lucruri.
35Când ora era deja târzie, ucenicii Lui s‑au apropiat de El și I‑au zis:
– Locul acesta este pustiu și ora este deja târzie. 36Lasă mulțimile să se ducă prin cătunele și satele dimprejur, ca să‑și cumpere ceva de mâncare.
37Însă Isus, răspunzând, le‑a zis:
– Dați‑le voi să mănânce!
Ei L‑au întrebat:
– Să ne ducem să cumpărăm pâine de două sute de denari37 Plata obișnuită pentru o zi de muncă în Orientul Mijlociu, în sec. I d.Cr., era de un denar pe zi (soldații romani primeau, de asemenea, un denar pe zi). și să le dăm să mănânce?
38Isus i‑a întrebat:
– Câte pâini aveți? Duceți‑vă și vedeți!
După ce au aflat, I‑au răspuns:
– Cinci pâini și doi pești.
39Atunci le‑a poruncit să‑i așeze39 Vezi nota de la 2:15. pe toți pe iarba verde, în grupuri. 40Și ei s‑au așezat în grupuri de câte o sută și de câte cincizeci. 41El a luat cele cinci pâini și cei doi pești și, privind spre cer, a binecuvântat și a frânt pâinile. Apoi le‑a dat ucenicilor ca să le așeze înaintea lor. De asemenea, a împărțit tuturor și cei doi pești. 42Ei au mâncat cu toții și s‑au săturat. 43Și au ridicat douăsprezece coșnițe pline cu firimituri și cu resturile de la pești. 44Cei ce mâncaseră pâinile erau cinci mii de bărbați.
Isus umblă pe mare
(Mt. 14:22-33; In. 6:16-21)
45Imediat după aceea, Isus i‑a zorit pe ucenicii Lui să se urce în barcă și să treacă înaintea Lui de partea cealaltă a mării, în Betsaida, în timp ce El va lăsa mulțimea să plece. 46După ce Și‑a luat rămas bun de la ei, S‑a dus pe munte să Se roage.
47Când s‑a lăsat seara, barca era în mijlocul mării, iar El Se afla singur pe țărm. 48A văzut că ucenicii se chinuiau cu vâslitul, pentru că vântul le era împotrivă și, cam în a patra strajă a nopții48 Între orele 3:00–6:00. Evreii au împrumutat de la romani împărțirea nopții în 4 străji a câte 3 ore. În VT, noaptea era împărțită în 3 străji a câte 4 ore (apus–22:00; 22:00–2:00; 2:00–răsărit)., Isus a venit spre ei, umblând pe mare; voia să ajungă alături de ei48 Sau: să treacă pe lângă ei. Dacă sensul sintagmei grecești este acesta, ideea devine oarecum greu de înțeles (Isus a venit spre ei doar ca să treacă pe lângă ei?!). Totuși, este posibil ca textul să facă aluzie la limbajul folosit în VT în contextul teofaniei de la muntele Sinai (vezi Ex. 33:19, 22, unde se menționează că slava lui Dumnezeu trece pe dinaintea lui Moise). Compară cu LXX, unde este folosită aceeași sintagmă.. 49Când L‑au văzut umblând pe mare, au crezut că este o stafie și au țipat, 50pentru că toți s‑au speriat când L‑au văzut.
Dar Isus le‑a vorbit imediat și le‑a zis: „Îndrăzniți! Eu sunt! Nu vă temeți!“ 51După ce S‑a urcat la ei în barcă, vântul a încetat. Și tare se mai minunau în ei înșiși, 52căci nu înțeleseseră ce s‑a întâmplat cu pâinile, fiindcă le era inima împietrită.
Isus vindecă bolnavii în Ghenezaret
(Mt. 14:34-36)
53După ce au trecut marea, au ajuns la țărm, în Ghenezaret, și au ancorat acolo. 54Imediat ce a coborât din barcă, oamenii L‑au recunoscut. 55Ei au alergat prin toată regiunea aceea și au început să‑i aducă pe paturi, pe cei bolnavi, acolo unde auzeau că Se află Isus. 56Și oriunde mergea El, în sate, în cetăți sau în cătune, îi așezau pe cei bolnavi în piețe și‑L rugau să‑i lase doar să se atingă de marginea hainei Lui. Și toți cei care se atingeau de El erau vindecați.
