1There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilæans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilæans were sinners above all the Galilæans, because they suffered such things? 3I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. 4Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? 5I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
6¶ He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. 7Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? 8And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 9And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down. 10And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
11¶ And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. 12And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. 13And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. 14And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. 15The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? 16And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? 17And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
18¶ Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it? 19It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it. 20And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? 21It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. 22And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. 23Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
24¶ Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. 27But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. 28There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. 29And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. 30And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.
31¶ The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee. 32And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. 33Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. 34O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! 35Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Chamada ao arrependimento
1Por esse tempo, contaram a Jesus que Pilatos tinha mandado matar alguns judeus da Galileia, enquanto ofereciam sacrifícios no templo em Jerusalém. 2“Pensam, por acaso, que esses eram mais pecadores do que os outros homens da Galileia?”, perguntou-lhes. 3“E que foi por isso que sofreram a morte? Não perceberam que também vocês se perderão se não se arrependerem? 4E os dezoito homens que morreram quando a torre de Siloé desabou sobre eles? Terá sido porque seriam os piores pecadores que havia em Jerusalém? 5Sem dúvida que não! Também vocês se perderão se não se arrependerem!”
6Jesus apresentou-lhes então a seguinte parábola: “Certo homem plantou uma figueira na sua quinta e muitas vezes ia ver se tinha fruto, ficando sempre desapontado. 7Por fim, disse ao empregado que a cortasse: ‘Há três anos que espero e não brotou um único figo! Para que me hei de ralar mais com esta figueira? O espaço que ocupa podemos nós utilizar para qualquer outra coisa.’
8‘Dá-lhe uma nova oportunidade’, respondeu o empregado. ‘Deixa-a ficar mais um ano que eu vou dedicar-lhe cuidados especiais e pôr-lhe adubo com abundância. 9Se conseguirmos figos no próximo ano, tanto melhor; se não, então corto-a.’ ”
Uma aleijada é curada no sábado
10Um sábado, estava Jesus a ensinar numa sinagoga, 11quando viu uma mulher que andava curvada, sem se poder endireitar, havia dezoito anos, por estar possuída por um espírito maligno. 12Jesus chamou-a para junto de si. “Mulher, estás curada da tua doença!” 13Tocou-a e imediatamente pôde endireitar-se. E ela glorificava e agradecia a Deus.
14Todavia, o líder da sinagoga local ficou muito zangado, porque Jesus tinha efetuado aquela cura no sábado. “Há seis dias da semana para trabalhar”, bradou ele à multidão. “Nesses dias e não no sábado é que se deve vir em busca de cura!”
15Mas o Senhor respondeu: “És um hipócrita! Tu trabalhas ao sábado! Ao sábado não desatas o gado no estábulo e não o levas a beber? 16E será condenável que, lá porque é sábado, eu liberte, após dezoito anos de cativeiro de Satanás, esta filha de Abraão?” 17Isto envergonhou os seus inimigos. E todo o povo se alegrava com as maravilhas que fazia.
Ilustrações da semente de mostarda e do fermento
(Mt 13.31-32; Mc 4.30-32)
18Começou então novamente a instruí-los acerca do reino de Deus: “Com que se parece o reino e como posso explicá-lo? 19É como uma semente de mostarda que um homem planta na sua horta; depois cresce e transforma-se num arbusto em cujos ramos as aves do céu fazem os seus ninhos.”
20Outra vez ele perguntou: “A que compararei o reino de Deus? 21Pode ser comparado ao fermento que uma mulher misturou em três medidas de farinha, até toda ela levedar.”
A porta estreita
(Mt 7.13-14, 22-23; 8.11-12)
22Jesus ia de cidade em cidade e de localidade em localidade, ensinando pelo caminho e avançando sempre para Jerusalém. 23Alguém lhe perguntou: “É verdade que só poucos é que serão salvos?” Ele respondeu:
24“É estreita a porta do céu. Esforcem-se por entrar, porque muitos tentarão fazê-lo. 25Mas quando o dono da casa tiver trancado a porta, será já tarde. Se ficarem do lado de fora, ainda que batendo e suplicando: ‘Senhor, abre-nos a porta!’, ele contudo responderá: ‘Não vos conheço nem sei de onde vêm!’ 26E dir-lhe-ão: ‘Mas nós comemos contigo e ensinaste nas nossas ruas.’ 27Tornará a responder: ‘Não vos conheço nem sei de onde vêm. Afastem-se da minha presença, pois todos vocês são praticantes da injustiça!’
28E haverá choro e ranger de dentes, ao verem Abraão, Isaque, Jacob e todos os profetas dentro do reino de Deus, mas vocês são lançados fora. 29Então virá gente do Este e do Oeste, do Norte e do Sul e sentar-se-ão no reino de Deus. 30E notem que há últimos que virão a ser primeiros, e primeiros que virão a ser últimos.”
Jesus em Jerusalém
(Mt 23.37-39)
31Nesse momento, alguns fariseus disserem-lhe: “Retira-te daqui se queres continuar vivo, porque Herodes anda à tua procura!” 32Ao que Jesus respondeu:
“Digam a essa raposa que continuarei a expulsar demónios e a operar curas milagrosas hoje e amanhã; e no terceiro dia chegarei ao meu destino. 33Sim, hoje, amanhã e depois de amanhã devo prosseguir o meu caminho! Porque não ficaria bem a um profeta de Deus ser morto noutro local que não em Jerusalém!
Jesus tem pena de Jerusalém
34Jerusalém, Jerusalém, cidade que mata os profetas de Deus e apedreja todos aqueles que ele lhe envia! Quantas vezes quis juntar os teus filhos como uma galinha junta os pintainhos debaixo das asas, mas vocês não me deixaram. 35Agora a vossa casa fica ao abandono. Lembrem-se do que vos digo: nunca mais me tornarão a ver senão quando disserem, ‘bendito aquele que vem em nome do Senhor!’ ”13.35 Sl 118.26.
