5¶ And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake. 6And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the LORD. 7And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD. 8Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant. 9And it shall be Aaron’s and his sons’; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of the LORD made by fire by a perpetual statute.
10¶ And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp; 11And the Israelitish woman’s son blasphemed the name of the LORD, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:) 12And they put him in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be shewed them.24.12 that…: Heb. to expound unto them according to the mouth of the LORD 13And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 14Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him. 15And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin. 16And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.
17¶ And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death.24.17 killeth…: Heb. smiteth the life of a man 18And he that killeth a beast shall make it good; beast for beast.24.18 beast for…: Heb. life for life 19And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him; 20Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again. 21And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death. 22Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.
23¶ And Moses spake to the children of Israel, that they should bring forth him that had cursed out of the camp, and stone him with stones. And the children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.
Le chandelier et les pains exposés devant l’Eternel
1L’Eternel parla à Moïse en ces termes : 2Ordonne aux Israélites de t’apporter pour le chandelier de l’huile raffinée d’olives concassées pour alimenter en permanence les lampes du chandelier. 3Aaron disposera ces lampes devant le voile qui cache le coffre de l’acte de l’alliance, dans la tente de la Rencontre, pour qu’elles brûlent continuellement du soir au matin devant l’Eternel. C’est une loi en vigueur à perpétuité pour toutes les générations. 4Il disposera les lampes sur le chandelier d’or pur pour qu’elles brûlent en permanence devant moi24.4 Pour les v. 2-4, voir Ex 27.20-21..
5Tu prendras de la fleur de farine et tu feras cuire douze pains24.5 Voir Ex 25.30. de six kilogrammes chacun. 6Tu les disposeras en deux rangées de six pains sur la table d’or pur devant l’Eternel. 7Tu saupoudreras chaque rangée d’encens pur qui sera ensuite brûlé à la place des pains comme un mets consumé pour l’Eternel et qui servira de mémorial.
8Chaque sabbat, on disposera ces pains devant l’Eternel pour qu’il y en ait toujours. C’est une alliance qui lie pour toujours les Israélites. 9Ces pains reviendront à Aaron et à ses fils qui les mangeront dans un lieu saint, car c’est une chose très sainte, prélevée sur les offrandes de l’Eternel consumées par le feu. C’est une ordonnance en vigueur à perpétuité.
Les peines pour divers crimes
Châtiment d’un blasphémateur
10Le fils d’une femme israélite et d’un père égyptien24.10 Des étrangers s’étaient joints aux Israélites lors de l’Exode (Ex 12.38) et exerçaient une mauvaise influence sur eux (Nb 11.4). Cet épisode introduit une nouvelle série de prescriptions applicable aussi aux étrangers. s’avança parmi les Israélites et se disputa dans le camp avec un Israélite. 11Le fils de la femme israélite blasphéma et maudit le Nom par excellence. Alors on l’amena devant Moïse. Sa mère s’appelait Shelomith, elle était la fille de Dibri, de la tribu de Dan. 12On le mit sous bonne garde en attendant que l’Eternel leur communique sa décision.
13L’Eternel parla à Moïse en ces termes : 14Fais sortir le blasphémateur hors du camp, tous ceux qui l’ont entendu poseront leurs mains sur sa tête ; ensuite, toute l’assemblée le lapidera.
15Tu diras aux Israélites : Quiconque maudira son Dieu portera la responsabilité de sa faute. 16Celui qui blasphème le nom de l’Eternel sera puni de mort ; toute la communauté le lapidera ; qu’il soit immigré ou autochtone, il sera mis à mort pour avoir blasphémé le Nom par excellence.
Œil pour œil, dent pour dent
17Celui qui frappe à mort tout être humain sera puni de mort24.17 Voir Gn 9.6 ; Ex 21.12.. 18S’il fait périr un animal d’autrui, il le remplacera selon le principe : une vie pour une vie.
19Si quelqu’un cause une infirmité à son prochain, on agira à son égard comme il a agi lui-même24.19 Pour les v. 19-20, voir Ex 21.23-25 ; Dt 19.12. Cité en Mt 5.38. : 20fracture pour fracture, œil pour œil, dent pour dent ; on lui infligera la même infirmité que celle qu’il a causée.
21Donc, celui qui frappe à mort un animal le remplacera, et celui qui tue un homme sera puni de mort.
22Vous appliquerez le même jugement à tous, immigrés comme autochtones, car je suis l’Eternel, votre Dieu24.22 Voir Nb 15.15-16..
Exécution du châtiment du blasphémateur
23Moïse dit aux Israélites de faire sortir le blasphémateur du camp ; ils le lapidèrent, appliquant ainsi l’ordre que l’Eternel avait donné à Moïse.
