21¶ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.

エルサレムの哀歌
1どうして、純金は光沢を失ったのでしょうか。
それを埋め込んだ神殿の壁がくずれ落ち、
道ばたに散らばったからです。
2純金とも言うべき、えりすぐりの若者が、
土の器のように扱われています。
3-4山犬でさえ、自分の子を育てるというのに、
イスラエルは荒野のだちょうのように、
赤ん坊の泣き声を聞いても知らぬふりをしています。
一滴の水も残っていないので、
子どもたちは渇きのため、
のどがかれています。
幼子はパンが欲しくて泣きますが、
誰ひとり、一かけらも与えることができません。
5味にうるさい美食家たちも、
口に入る物なら何でも恵んでくれと、
道ばたで物乞いしています。
宮殿育ちの貴族までが、ごみ捨て場をあさります。
6それというのも、イスラエルの罪は、
またたく間に、人の手によらず滅んだ
ソドムの罪より大きいからです。
7上流階級の人たちは、ほっそりして日に焼け、
見るからに健康そうで、
最高の人々でした。
8それが今では、顔はすすけたように真っ黒です。
町の中にいても見分けがつきません。
皮膚はかさかさに乾いてしなび、
骨にへばりついています。
9剣でひと思いに殺される者は、
飢えのためにじわじわと死に追いつめられる者より
はるかにましです。
10心の優しい女でさえ、生き延びるために、
自分の腹を痛めた子どもを食べました。
11こうして主の怒りは晴らされ、
激しい憤りが出し尽くされました。
主がエルサレムに放った火は、
その土台まで焼き尽くしました。
12世界中のだれもが、
まさか敵軍がエルサレムの門を破るとは、
夢にも思いませんでした。
13神がそれを許したのは、
罪のない者の血を流して都を汚した
預言者や祭司たちの罪のためです。
14今や、彼らは血にまみれ、
触れるものは何でも汚しながら、
あてもなく町の中をさまよい歩いています。
15彼らを見て、人々は「あっちへ行け。
汚らわしい」と叫びます。
彼らは遠い国へ逃げて行き、
外国人の居留地をなおさまよい歩きます。
しかし、どこへ行っても仲間はずれで、
誰ひとり居住権を与えてくれません。
16主は彼らにつらく当たり、
援助の手を伸べるのを差し控えました。
神に最後まで忠実だった祭司や長老たちを、
彼らが迫害したからです。
17私たちは、同盟国の助けを待っていましたが、
来ませんでした。
最もあてにしていた国さえ、
少しも動こうとしませんでした。
18一歩外に出れば、身の危険にさらされどおしです。
私たちの最期は間近です。
私たちの余命は、もう数えるほどしかありません。
私たちは滅亡の宣告を受けています。
19敵はわしより速く飛ぶので、
たとえ山へ逃げても、すぐに見つかります。
荒野に隠れても、先回りして待っています。
20頼みの綱であった、主に油注がれた私たちの王は、
敵の罠にかかって捕まりました。
この偉大な王さえいれば、
どんな国が来ても大丈夫だったのに。
21ウツの地に住むエドムの人たちよ。
喜んでいるのですか。
しかしあなたがたも今に、
主の恐ろしい怒りを感じるようになります。
22イスラエルは罪を犯して遠い国へ移されましたが、
刑期はやがて終わります。
しかしエドムの刑期は、いつまでも終わりません。
