1Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.13.1 to…: Heb. to possess it 2This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines, and all Geshuri, 3From Sihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the borders of Ekron northward, which is counted to the Canaanite: five lords of the Philistines; the Gazathites, and the Ashdothites, the Eshkalonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avites: 4From the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that is beside the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the borders of the Amorites:13.4 Mearah: or, the cave 5And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon unto the entering into Hamath. 6All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.
7Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh, 8With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of the LORD gave them; 9From Aroer, that is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon; 10And all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon; 11And Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salcah; 12All the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants: for these did Moses smite, and cast them out. 13Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day. 14Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the LORD God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as he said unto them.
15¶ And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben inheritance according to their families. 16And their coast was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain by Medeba; 17Heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon,13.17 Bamoth-baal…: or, the high places of Baal, and house of Baal-meon 18And Jahazah, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, 19And Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zareth-shahar in the mount of the valley, 20And Beth-peor, and Ashdoth-pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth,13.20 Ashdoth-pisgah: or, springs of Pisgah, or, the hill 21And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, which were dukes of Sihon, dwelling in the country.
22¶ Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among them that were slain by them.13.22 soothsayer: or, diviner 23And the border of the children of Reuben was Jordan, and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben after their families, the cities and the villages thereof. 24And Moses gave inheritance unto the tribe of Gad, even unto the children of Gad according to their families. 25And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah; 26And from Heshbon unto Ramath-mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir; 27And in the valley, Beth-aram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, Jordan and his border, even unto the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side Jordan eastward. 28This is the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages.
29¶ And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of Manasseh: and this was the possession of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by their families. 30And their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities: 31And half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were pertaining unto the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even to the one half of the children of Machir by their families. 32These are the countries which Moses did distribute for inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side Jordan, by Jericho, eastward. 33But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.
Porunca împărțirii teritoriului rămas necucerit
1Iosua îmbătrânise și era înaintat în vârstă. Atunci Domnul i‑a zis: „Tu ești bătrân și înaintat în vârstă, iar teritoriul care nu a fost luat în stăpânire este foarte mare.
2Aceasta este țara care mai rămâne: toate ținuturile filistenilor și ale gheșuriților 3(de la râul Șihor3 Un alt nume pentru Râul (uedul) Egiptului, fiind vorba fie de modernul Wadi el‑Arish, în NE Sinaiului, fie chiar de brațul răsăritean al Deltei Nilului., care este în fața Egiptului, până la hotarul Ekronului, înspre nord, teritoriu care este considerat canaanit și care este al celor cinci domnitori filisteni: din Gaza, din Așdod, din Așchelon, din Gat și din Ekron), precum și ale aviților, 4înspre sud. De asemenea, toate ținuturile canaaniților, de la Meara sidonienilor, până la Afek, spre hotarul cu amoriții, 5apoi ținutul ghebaliților5 Sau: ținutul aparținând Ghebalului (Biblosului); vezi 1 Regi 5:18. și întregul Liban înspre răsărit, de la Baal‑Gad până la poalele muntelui Hermon și până la Lebo-Hamat5 Sau: până la intrarea în Hamat. 6cu toți locuitorii de pe munte, din Liban până la Misrefot-Maim, adică toți sidonienii.
Eu îi voi alunga dinaintea fiilor lui Israel. Tu însă împarte acest teritoriu ca moștenire lui Israel, așa cum ți‑am poruncit. 7Împarte deci țara ca moștenire celor nouă seminții și unei jumătăți a seminției lui Manase.“
Teritoriul împărțit în Transiordania
8Ceilalți împreună cu rubeniții și gadiții își primiseră moștenirea pe care le‑a dat‑o Moise la răsărit de Iordan, întocmai cum le‑o împărțise Moise, robul Domnului:
9de la Aroer, care se află pe malul uedului9, 16 Vezi nota de la 12:1. Arnon și de la cetatea din mijlocul văii, întregul podiș al Medebei, până la Dibon, 10toate cetățile lui Sihon, regele amoriților, care domnea la Heșbon, până la hotarul fiilor lui Amon, 11Ghiladul, teritoriul gheșurit și maacatit, tot muntele Hermon și tot Bașanul până la Salca, 12întregul regat al lui Og, în Bașan, care domnea la Aștarot și la Edrei și care era singurul rămas dintre refaiți. Moise i‑a învins și i‑a alungat. 13Dar fiii lui Israel nu i‑au alungat pe gheșuriții și pe maacatiții din Gheșur și din Maaca, astfel că ei au locuit în mijlocul lui Israel până în ziua aceasta.
14Seminția lui Levi nu a primit însă nicio moștenire, deoarece El îi spusese că jertfele mistuite de foc aduse Domnului, Dumnezeul lui Israel, sunt moștenirea ei.
15Moise dăduse seminției rubeniților, potrivit clanurilor lor, 16teritoriul de la Aroer, care este pe malul uedului Arnon și de la cetatea din mijlocul văii, întregul podiș de lângă Medeba, 17Heșbonul cu toate cetățile dimprejurul lui din podiș, Dibon, Bamot-Baal, Bet‑Baal-Meon, 18Iahaț, Chedemot, Mefaat, 19Chiriatayim, Sibma, Țeret-Șahar, pe muntele văii, 20Bet‑Peor, poalele muntelui Pisga, Bet‑Ieșimot, 21toate cetățile podișului, adică întregul regat al lui Sihon, regele amoriților, care domnea la Heșbon și care fusese învins de Moise, alături de conducătorii Midianului: Evi, Rechem, Țur, Hur și Reba, vasalii lui Sihon, care locuiau în țară. 22Printre cei care fuseseră uciși cu sabia de fiii lui Israel se afla și Balaam, fiul lui Beor, care practica divinația.22 Pentru divinație, vezi nota de la Deut. 18:10. 23Hotarul teritoriului rubeniților era Iordanul. Cetățile și satele acestea erau moștenirea urmașilor lui Ruben, potrivit clanurilor lor.
24Moise dăduse seminției lui Gad, adică urmașilor lui Gad, potrivit clanurilor lor, 25un teritoriu care cuprindea Iazerul, toate cetățile Ghiladului, o jumătate din țara fiilor lui Amon până la Aroer, care este față în față cu Raba, 26de la Heșbon până la Ramat-Mițpa și Betonim și de la Mahanayim până la hotarul Debirului, 27iar în vale, Bet‑Haram, Bet‑Nimra, Sucot și Țafon, partea care a mai rămas din teritoriul regelui Sihon al Heșbonului, teritoriu care se află în partea de răsărit a Iordanului, având ca hotar Iordanul până la marginea mării Chineret27 Marea Galileei.. 28Cetățile și satele acestea erau moștenirea urmașilor lui Gad, potrivit clanurilor lor.
29Moise dăduse jumătății seminției lui Manase, adică unei jumătăți dintre urmașii lui Manase, potrivit clanurilor lor, 30un teritoriu care cuprindea Mahanayimul, întregul Bașan, întregul regat al regelui Og al Bașanului, și toate așezările lui Iair din Bașan – șaizeci de cetăți. 31Jumătate din Ghilad, Aștarot și Edrei, cetăți ale regatului lui Og din Bașan, fuseseră date urmașilor lui Machir, fiul lui Manase, adică unei jumătăți dintre urmașii lui Machir, potrivit clanurilor lor.
32Acestea sunt teritoriile pe care le dăduse Moise ca moștenire, când era în câmpiile Moabului, de cealaltă parte a Iordanului, la răsărit de Ierihon. 33Moise nu a dat însă nicio moștenire seminției lui Levi; Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, este moștenirea lor, căci așa le‑a spus El.
