1Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly, 2And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.2.2 by…: or, out of mine affliction2.2 hell: or, the grave 3For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.2.3 midst: Heb. heart 4Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. 5The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. 6I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.2.6 bottoms: Heb. cuttings off2.6 corruption: or, the pit 7When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. 8They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. 9But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
10¶ And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
دعای يونس
1آنگاه يونس از شكم ماهی نزد خداوند، خدای خود دعا كرده گفت:
2«به هنگام سختی، خداوند را خواندم و او مرا اجابت فرمود. از عالم مرگ فرياد برآوردم و تو ای خداوند، به داد من رسيدی! 3مرا به اعماق دريا انداختی. در سيلابها غرق شدم و امواج خروشانت مرا پوشانيد. 4به خود گفتم كه مرا از نظر خود دور انداخته‌ای و ديگر نمی‌توانم خانهٔ مقدست را ببينم.
5«در امواج دريا فرو رفتم. مرگ بسيار نزديک بود. آبها مرا احاطه كردند و علفهای دريا دور سرم پيچيدند. 6تا عمق كوهها فرو رفتم. درهای زندگی به رويم بسته شد و در ديار مرگ زندانی شدم. ولی ای خداوند، خدای من، تو مرا از چنگال مرگ رهانيدی!
7«وقتی كه تمام اميد خود را از دست داده بودم، بار ديگر تو را ای خداوند به ياد آوردم و دعای قلب من در خانهٔ مقدست به حضور تو رسيد.
8«كسانی كه بتهای باطل را می‌پرستند از پيروی تو برگشته‌اند، 9ولی من با سرودهای تشكر برای تو قربانی خواهم كرد و نذر خود را به تو ادا خواهم نمود. نجات فقط از جانب خداوند است.»
10آنگاه خداوند به ماهی امر فرمود كه يونس را از دهان خود به ساحل بيفکند و ماهی چنين كرد.
