1And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 6And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. 7Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. 11This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
12¶ After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
13¶ And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, 14And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: 15And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; 16And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise. 17And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
18¶ Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? 19Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? 21But he spake of the temple of his body. 22When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
23¶ Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. 24But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, 25And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

Pentru o altă posibilă interpretare a întregului verset, vezi nota următoare. s‑a făcut o nuntă în Cana Galileei.1 Sau: Era cea de‑a treia zi a unei nunți în Cana Galileei. Nunțile evreiești se desfășurau pe parcursul mai multor zile. Mama lui Isus era acolo. 2La nuntă fuseseră chemați și Isus cu ucenicii Săi.
3Când s‑a terminat vinul, mama lui Isus I‑a zis:
– Nu mai au vin!
4Isus i‑a răspuns:
– Femeie4 O adresare neobișnuită din partea unui fiu către mama sa în vremea aceea. Însă din context reiese faptul că, începându‑Și lucrarea, raportul dintre Isus și mama Sa se schimbă. El nu mai este doar fiul Mariei, ci este și Fiul lui Dumnezeu, Care are de îndeplinit o misiune încredințată de Tatăl Său. Vezi și 19:26., ce‑ți pasă ție, ce‑Mi pasă Mie?4 Cu referire la relația lor cu cele pământești și cu treburile altora. Nu Mi‑a sosit încă ceasul!
5Mama Lui le‑a zis slujitorilor: „Faceți orice vă va spune!“ 6Erau acolo șase vase de piatră, după obiceiul de curățire al iudeilor, în fiecare încăpând două sau trei măsuri6 O măsură (gr.: metretes) avea între 38-40 l; 2-3 măsuri aveau 76–120 l.. 7Isus le‑a zis: „Umpleți vasele cu apă!“ Și ei le‑au umplut până sus. 8Atunci El le‑a zis: „Acum scoateți din ele și duceți‑i mai‑marelui ospățului!“ Și ei i‑au dus. 9Mai‑marele ospățului a gustat apa care fusese făcută vin – el nu știa de unde este, însă slujitorii care scoseseră apa știau – l‑a chemat pe mire 10și i‑a zis: „Orice om pune mai întâi la masă vinul cel bun, apoi, după ce oaspeții au băut mult, îl pune pe cel mai puțin bun. Tu însă ai ținut vinul cel bun până acum!“
11Isus a făcut acest început al semnelor11 Evanghelistul Ioan numește minunile lui Isus semne, un termen ce subliniază semnificația acelor acțiuni [peste tot în carte]. Lui în Cana Galileei și Și‑a arătat slava, iar ucenicii Lui au crezut în El.
12După aceea a coborât în Capernaum împreună cu mama, frații și ucenicii Lui, dar acolo n‑au rămas multe zile.
Isus alungă comercianții din Templu
(Mt. 21:12-13; Mc. 11:15-17; Lc. 19:45-46)
13Paștele iudeilor era aproape, astfel că Isus S‑a suit la Ierusalim. 14El i‑a găsit în Templu pe cei care vindeau boi, oi și porumbei și pe schimbătorii de bani14 În regiune, în perioada NT, circulau trei tipuri de monede: cele imperiale (după standard roman), cele provinciale (după standard grecesc) și cele locale (șechelul). Taxa anuală de 0,5 șecheli (echivalentul a 2 denari sau a 2 drahme), cerută fiecărui bărbat de peste 20 ani (vezi Ex. 30:13; 2 Cron. 24:9; Neem. 10:32) era acceptată doar în șecheli, probabil din cauza chipurilor de pe monedele romane și grecești. stând jos la mesele lor. 15A făcut un bici din frânghii și i‑a scos pe toți afară din Templu, împreună cu oile și boii lor. A împrăștiat monedele schimbătorilor de bani și le‑a răsturnat mesele, 16iar celor ce vindeau porumbei le‑a zis: „Ridicați acestea de aici! Nu faceți din Casa Tatălui Meu o casă de negoț!“ 17Ucenicii Lui și‑au amintit că este scris: „Zelul pentru Casa Ta Mă va mistui.“17 Vezi Ps. 69:9.
18Atunci iudeii au răspuns și I‑au zis:
– Prin ce semn ne arăți că ai dreptul să faci acestea?
19Isus a răspuns și le‑a zis:
– Dărâmați acest Templu, și în trei zile îl voi ridica!
20Iudeii I‑au zis:
– De patruzeci și șase de ani se construiește Templul20 Irod cel Mare a început un proiect de extindere a Templului undeva între anii 20–19 î.Cr., iar evenimentul relatat aici are loc undeva între anii 26–27 d.Cr. Conform surselor istorice, extinderea Templului a fost finalizată în anul 64 d.Cr. acesta, și Tu îl vei ridica în trei zile?!
21Dar El vorbea despre Templul trupului Său. 22Atunci când El a fost înviat dintre cei morți, ucenicii Lui și‑au amintit că spusese aceste vorbe și au crezut Scriptura și cuvântul pe care‑l spusese Isus.
23Pe când era în Ierusalim, în timpul Sărbătorii Paștelui, mulți au crezut în Numele Lui, văzând semnele pe care le făcea. 24Dar Isus nu Se încredea în ei, pentru că îi cunoștea pe toți 25și nu avea nevoie să‑I mărturisească cineva despre vreun om, fiindcă El Însuși știa ce era în om.
