1Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, 2If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?4.2 to…: Heb. a word4.2 withhold…: Heb. refrain from words? 3Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands. 4Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees. 5But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled. 6Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?
7Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off? 8Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. 9By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.4.9 by the breath…: that is, by his anger 10The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. 11The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion’s whelps are scattered abroad.

1Unya mitubag si Elifaz nga taga-Teman, 2“Masuko ka ba kon mosulti ako? Dili mahimo nga magpakahilom lang ako. 3Daghan ang mga tawo nga imong gitudloan kaniadto nga mosalig sa Dios. Gipalig-on mo kadtong mga nagmaluya. 4Ang imong mga pulong nakapalig-on niadtong napandol ug nawad-ag paglaom. 5Apan karon nga ikaw nay nagaantos, naglagot ka ug nawad-ag kadasig. 6Dili ba nga kon may pagtahod ka sa Dios ug matarong ang imong kinabuhi, may pagsalig ka ug paglaom?
7“Hunahunaa ra gud. May tawo bang matarong o walay sala nga nalaglag? 8Sumala sa akong naobserbahan, ang magtanom ug daotan ug magsabwag ug kasamok, kadaotan ug kasamok usab ang anihon. 9Mangalaglag sila sa usa lang ka paghuyop sa Dios. Sa iyang kasuko, mangapukan sila. 10Bisan sama pa sila sa kusgan ug mabangis nga liyon, pangpungilon gihapon sa Dios ang ilang mga ngipon. 11Mahisama sila sa mga liyon nga nangamatay tungod kay walay matukob, ug ang ilang mga anak magkatibulaag.
12“May gisugilon kanako sa tago. Gihunghong kini kanako 13pinaagi sa usa ka damgo niadtong gabhiona samtang nahinanok pag-ayo ang mga tawo. 14Nahadlok ako ug nangurog ang tibuok kong kalawasan. 15May espiritu nga milabay4:15 espiritu nga milabay: o, mihuyop ang hangin. sa akong nawong ug nanindog ang akong mga balhibo. 16Mihunong kini ug daw nagtindog, apan dili ko maklaro. Unya nadungog ko ang hinay nga tingog nga miingon, 17‘May tawo bang matarong atubangan sa Dios? May tawo bang hinlo atubangan sa iyang Magbubuhat? 18Kon dili makasalig ang Dios sa mga anghel nga iyang mga alagad, ug makakita pa siya ug sayop diha kanila, 19unsa pa kaha ang mga tawo nga hinimo lang gikan sa yuta, ug sama ra kasayon dugmokon sama sa insekto! 20Buhi sila sa buntag, apan pagkagabii patay na. Dili na sila makita hangtod sa kahangtoran. 21Nahisama sila sa nalumpag nga mga tolda. Namatay sila nga kulang ug kaalam.’
