1Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near, 2And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)42.2 Let…: or, Let our supplication fall before thee 3That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do. 4Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you. 5Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us. 6Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.
7¶ And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah. 8Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, 9And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him; 10If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you. 11Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand. 12And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.
13¶ But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God, 14Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell: 15And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there; 16Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.42.16 shall follow…: Heb. shall cleave after you 17So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.42.17 So…: Heb. So shall all the men be 18For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.
19¶ The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.42.19 admonished…: Heb. testified against you 20For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.42.20 ye dissembled…: or, ye have used deceit against your souls 21And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you. 22Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.42.22 to go…: or, to go to sojourn
Nagpangabay ang Katawhan kay Jeremias nga Magpangamuyo Siya para sa Ila
1Karon, nagpalapit kay Jeremias si Johanan nga anak ni Karea, si Jezaria nga anak ni Hoshaya, kag ang mga kaupod nila nga mga opisyal sang mga soldado, pati ang tanan nga tawo halin sa pinakakubos hasta sa pinakadungganon. 2Nagsiling sila kay Jeremias, “Nagapangabay kami sa imo nga magpangamuyo ka sa Ginoo nga imo Dios para sa amon nga mga nabilin. Nakita mo nga madamo kami sang una, pero subong diutay na lang. 3Magpangamuyo ka sa Ginoo nga imo Dios nga ipahayag niya sa amon kon diin kami makadto kag kon ano ang dapat namon himuon.” 4Nagsabat si Jeremias, “Sige, mangamuyo ako sa Ginoo nga inyo Dios para sa inyo ginapangabay, kag sugiran ko kamo kon ano ang iya isiling. Wala gid ako sing itago sa inyo.”
5Dayon nagsiling sila kay Jeremias, “Kabay pa nga ang Ginoo nga imo Dios mangin matuod kag masaligan nga saksi kontra sa amon kon indi namon pagtumanon ang tanan nga isiling niya sa amon paagi sa imo. 6Bisan magustuhan man namon ini ukon indi, tumanon gid namon ang Ginoo nga aton Dios, agod mangin maayo ang tanan para sa aton.”
7Pagkaligad sang napulo ka adlaw, naghambal ang Ginoo kay Jeremias. 8Gani ginpatawag ni Jeremias si Johanan kag ang tanan nga kaupod niya nga mga opisyal sang mga soldado, pati ang tanan nga katawhan halin sa pinakakubos hasta sa pinakadungganon. 9Nagsiling si Jeremias sa ila, “Ginpangabay ninyo ako sa pagpakighambal sa Ginoo, ang Dios sang Israel, kag amo ini ang iya sabat: 10‘Kon magpabilin kamo sa sini nga duta pabangunon ko kamo kag patindugon liwat kag indi ko kamo paglaglagon. Kay nagkasubo gid ako sa kalaglagan nga ginpadala ko sa inyo. 11Ako, ang Ginoo, nagasiling nga indi na kamo magkahadlok sa hari sang Babilonia kay kaupod ninyo ako kag luwason ko kamo sa iya. 12Kaluoyan ko kamo. Hikuton ko siya nga kaluoyan niya kamo, nga tugutan niya nga magpabilin kamo sa inyo duta.’
13“Pero kon indi kamo magtuman sa Ginoo nga inyo Dios kag magsiling kamo nga, ‘Indi kami magpabilin sa sini nga duta 14kundi makadto kami sa Egipto kag didto mag-estar kay wala gid didto sang inaway ukon gutom,’ 15amo ini ang isiling sa inyo sang Ginoo nga Makagagahom, ang Dios sang Israel: ‘Kamo nga mga nabilin nga katawhan sang Juda, kon desidido gid man kamo nga didto mag-estar sa Egipto, 16ang inaway kag gutom nga inyo ginakahadlukan magasunod sa inyo, kag didto mapatay kamo. 17Huo, ang tanan nga gusto mag-estar sa Egipto mapatay sa inaway, gutom, kag balatian. Wala gid sing bisan isa sa ila nga makaluwas ukon makapalagyo sa kalaglagan nga ipadala ko sa ila.’
18“Amo pa gid ini ang ginasiling sang Ginoo nga Makagagahom, ang Dios sang Israel, ‘Subong nga ang akon puwerte nga kaakig ginpaagom ko sa katawhan sang Jerusalem, ipaagom ko man ang akon kaakig sa inyo kon magkadto kamo sa Egipto. Pakamalauton kamo kag kangil-aran sang mga tawo. Pakalainon nila kamo kag yagutaon, kag indi na gid kamo makabalik sa inyo duta.’
19“Kamo nga mga nabilin nga katawhan sang Juda, nagasiling ang Ginoo nga indi gid kamo magkadto sa Egipto. Tandai gid ninyo ining ginapaandam ko sa inyo subong. 20Indi gid maayo ining inyo ginhimo! Nagpangabay kamo sa akon nga magdangop ako sa Ginoo nga inyo Dios para sa inyo kag nagsiling pa kamo nga tumanon gid ninyo ang tanan nga isiling niya sa inyo. 21Pero karon nga ginsugid ko sa inyo ang tanan nga ginsiling sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios, wala ninyo ini pagtumana. 22Gani ginasiguro ko sa inyo nga mapatay gid kamo sa inaway, gutom, kag balatian didto sa Egipto, nga sa diin gusto ninyo mag-estar.”
