1The word of the LORD came also unto me, saying, 2Thou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters in this place. 3For thus saith the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land; 4They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth. 5For thus saith the LORD, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the LORD, even lovingkindness and mercies.16.5 mourning: or, mourning feast 6Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them: 7Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.16.7 tear…: or, break bread for them 8Thou shalt not also go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and to drink. 9For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.
10¶ And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God? 11Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law; 12And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me:16.12 imagination: or, stubbornness 13Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you favour.
14¶ Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; 15But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
16¶ Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. 17For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes. 18And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things. 19O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. 20Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods? 21Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.16.21 The LORD: or, JEHOVAH

1La palabra del Señor vino a mí y me dijo: 2«No te cases ni tengas hijos ni hijas en este lugar». 3Porque así dice el Señor en cuanto a los hijos y las hijas que han nacido en este lugar, y en cuanto a las madres que los dieron a luz y los padres que los engendraron en esta tierra: 4«Morirán de enfermedades horribles. Nadie llorará por ellos ni los sepultará; se quedarán sobre la faz de la tierra, como el estiércol. La espada y el hambre acabarán con ellos, y sus cadáveres servirán de alimento para las aves del cielo y para las bestias de la tierra».
5Así dice el Señor: «No entres en una casa donde estén de luto, ni vayas a llorar, ni los consueles, porque a este pueblo le he retirado mi paz, mi gran amor y mi compasión», afirma el Señor. 6«En esta tierra morirán grandes y pequeños; nadie llorará por ellos ni los sepultará; nadie se hará heridas en el cuerpo ni se rapará la cabeza por ellos. 7Nadie ofrecerá un banquete fúnebre a los que estén de duelo para consolarlos por el muerto. Tampoco a nadie se le dará a beber la copa del consuelo, aun cuando quien haya muerto sea su padre o su madre.
8»No entres en una casa donde haya una celebración ni te sientes con ellos a comer y beber. 9Porque así dice el Señor de los Ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Voy a poner fin en este lugar a toda expresión de alegría y de regocijo; así como al cántico del novio y de la novia. Esto sucederá en sus propios días y ustedes lo verán.
10»Cuando anuncies a este pueblo todas estas cosas, ellos te preguntarán: “¿Por qué ha decretado el Señor contra nosotros esta calamidad tan grande? ¿Cuál es nuestra iniquidad? ¿Qué pecado hemos cometido contra el Señor nuestro Dios?”. 11Entonces responderás: “Esto es porque sus antepasados me abandonaron y se fueron tras otros dioses, les sirvieron y los adoraron. Pero a mí me abandonaron y no cumplieron mi Ley”, afirma el Señor. 12“Pero ustedes se han comportado peor que sus antepasados. Cada uno sigue la terquedad de su corazón malvado, en vez de obedecerme. 13Por eso los voy a arrojar de esta tierra a una tierra que ni ustedes ni sus antepasados conocieron, y allí servirán a otros dioses día y noche. No les tendré compasión”.
14»Por eso —afirma el Señor—, vienen días en que ya no se dirá: “Tan cierto como que vive el Señor, quien hizo salir a los israelitas de la tierra de Egipto”; 15sino: “Tan cierto como que vive el Señor, quien hizo salir a los israelitas de la tierra del norte y de todos los países adonde los había expulsado”. Yo los haré volver a su tierra, la que antes di a sus antepasados.
16»Voy a enviar a muchos pescadores —afirma el Señor—, ellos los pescarán a ustedes. Después enviaré a muchos cazadores; ellos los cazarán por todas las montañas, colinas y por las grietas de las rocas. 17Porque mis ojos ven todas sus acciones; ninguna de ellas me es oculta. Su iniquidad no puede esconderse de mi vista. 18Primero les pagaré el doble por su iniquidad y su pecado, porque con los cadáveres de sus ídolos detestables han profanado mi tierra y han llenado mi herencia con sus abominaciones».
19Señor, fuerza y fortaleza mía,
mi refugio en el día de la angustia;
desde los confines de la tierra
vendrán a ti las naciones y dirán:
«Solo mentira heredaron nuestros antepasados;
ídolos inútiles que no sirven para nada.
20¿Acaso puede el hombre hacer sus propios dioses?
¡Pero si no son dioses!».
21«Por eso, esta vez les daré una lección;
les daré a conocer mi mano poderosa.
¡Así sabrán
que mi nombre es el Señor!
