5¶ Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: 6I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; 7To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. 8I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. 9Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. 10Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.42.10 all…: Heb. the fulness thereof 11Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains. 12Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.
13The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.42.13 prevail: or, behave himself mightily 14I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once.42.14 devour: Heb. swallow, or, sup up 15I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools. 16And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. 17¶ They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.
18Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. 19Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD’s servant? 20Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not. 21The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.42.21 it: or, him 22But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.42.22 they are all…: or, in snaring all the young men of them42.22 for a spoil: Heb. a treading 23Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come?42.23 for…: Heb. for the after time? 24Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law. 25Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
El siervo del Señor
1»Este es mi siervo, a quien sostengo,
mi escogido, en quien me deleito;
sobre él he puesto mi Espíritu
y llevará justicia a las naciones.
2No clamará, ni gritará,
ni alzará su voz en las calles.
3No acabará de romper la caña quebrada
ni apagará la mecha que apenas arde.
Con fidelidad hará justicia;
4no vacilará ni se desanimará
hasta implantar la justicia en la tierra.
En su enseñanza las costas lejanas pondrán su esperanza».
5Así dice Dios el Señor,
el que creó y desplegó los cielos;
el que expandió la tierra
y todo lo que ella produce;
el que da aliento al pueblo que la habita
y vida a los que en ella se mueven:
6«Yo, el Señor, te he llamado en justicia;
te tomaré de la mano.
Yo te preservaré, yo te constituiré
como pacto para el pueblo,
como luz para las naciones,
7para abrir los ojos de los ciegos,
para librar de la cárcel a los presos
y del calabozo a los que habitan en tinieblas.
8»Yo soy el Señor; ¡ese es mi nombre!
No entrego a otros mi gloria
ni mi alabanza a los ídolos.
9Las cosas pasadas se han cumplido
y ahora anuncio cosas nuevas;
las anuncio antes que sucedan».
Canción de alabanza al Señor
10Canten al Señor un cántico nuevo,
ustedes, que descienden al mar
y todo lo que hay en él;
canten su alabanza desde los confines de la tierra,
ustedes, costas lejanas y sus habitantes.
11Que alcen la voz el desierto, sus ciudades,
y los poblados donde Cedar habita.
Que canten de alegría los habitantes de Selá
y griten desde las cimas de las montañas.
12Den gloria al Señor
y proclamen su alabanza en las costas lejanas.
13El Señor marchará como un campeón;
como hombre de guerra despertará su celo.
Con gritos y alaridos se lanzará al combate
y triunfará sobre sus enemigos.
14«Por mucho tiempo he guardado silencio,
he estado callado y me he contenido.
Pero ahora voy a gritar como parturienta,
voy a resollar y jadear al mismo tiempo.
15Devastaré montañas y colinas
y consumiré toda su vegetación;
convertiré los ríos en islas
y secaré los estanques.
16Conduciré a los ciegos por caminos desconocidos,
los guiaré por senderos inexplorados;
ante ellos convertiré en luz las tinieblas,
y allanaré los lugares escabrosos.
Esto haré
y no los abandonaré.
17Pero retrocederán llenos de vergüenza
los que confían en las imágenes,
los que dicen a las imágenes:
“Ustedes son nuestros dioses”.
Israel ciego y sordo
18»Sordos, ¡escuchen!
Ciegos, ¡fíjense bien!
19¿Quién es más ciego que mi siervo
y más sordo que mi mensajero?
¿Quién es más ciego que mi enviado
y más ciego que el siervo del Señor?
20Tú has visto muchas cosas, pero no las has captado;
tienes abiertos los oídos, pero no oyes nada».
21Agradó al Señor,
por amor a su justicia,
hacer su ley grande y gloriosa.
22Pero este es un pueblo saqueado y despojado,
todos atrapados en cuevas
o encerrados en cárceles.
Son saqueados
y nadie los libra;
son despojados
sin que nadie reclame: ¡Devuélvanlos!
23¿Quién de ustedes escuchará esto
y prestará atención en el futuro?
24¿Quién entregó a Jacob para el despojo,
a Israel para el saqueo?
¿No es acaso el Señor
contra quien su pueblo ha pecado?
No siguieron sus caminos
ni obedecieron su Ley.
25Por eso él derramó sobre ellos
su ardiente ira y el furor de la guerra.
Los envolvió en llamas, pero no comprendieron;
los consumió, pero no lo tomaron en serio.
