1In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.38.1 Set…: Heb. 4¶ Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying, 5Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years. 6And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city. 7And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath spoken; 8Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. 9¶ The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness: 10I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years. 11I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. 12Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.38.12 with…: or, from the thrum 13I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. 14Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me.38.14 undertake…: or, ease me 15What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. 16O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. 17Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.38.17 for peace…: or, on my peace came great bitterness38.17 thou hast in…: Heb. thou hast loved my soul from the pit 18For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. 19The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth. 20The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD. 21For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover. 22Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?
Enfermedad de Ezequías
38:1-8 – 2R 20:1-11; 2Cr 32:24-26
1Por aquellos días Ezequías se enfermó gravemente y estuvo a punto de morir. El profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, fue a verlo y le dijo: «Así dice el Señor: “Pon tu casa en orden, porque vas a morir; no te recuperarás”».
2Ezequías volvió el rostro hacia la pared y rogó al Señor: 3«Recuerda, Señor, que yo me he conducido delante de ti con lealtad e integridad y he hecho lo que te agrada». Y Ezequías lloró amargamente.
4Entonces la palabra del Señor vino a Isaías: 5«Ve y dile a Ezequías: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de su antepasado David: He escuchado tu oración y he visto tus lágrimas. Voy a darte quince años más de vida. 6Y a ti y a esta ciudad los libraré de caer en manos del rey de Asiria. Yo defenderé esta ciudad.
7»”Esta es la señal que el Señor te dará para confirmar lo que te ha prometido: 8Haré que en la escala de Acaz la sombra del sol retroceda las diez gradas que ya ha bajado”». ¡Entonces, la luz del sol retrocedió las diez gradas que ya había bajado!
Escrito de Ezequías
9Después de su enfermedad y recuperación, Ezequías, rey de Judá, escribió:
10«Yo decía: “¿En la plenitud de mi vida,
debo pasar por las puertas de la muerte38:10 de la muerte. Lit. del Seol.
y ser privado del resto de mis días?”.
11Yo decía: “Ya no veré más al Señor
en esta tierra de los vivientes;
ya no contemplaré más a los seres humanos,
a los que habitan este mundo”.38:11 este mundo (mss. hebreos); el lugar de cesación (TM).
12Me quitaron mi casa, me la arrebataron,
como si fuera la tienda de campaña de un pastor.
Como un tejedor enrollé mi vida
y él me la arrancó del telar.
¡De la noche a la mañana acabó conmigo!
13Pacientemente esperé hasta la aurora,
pero él, como león, me quebró todos los huesos.
¡De la noche a la mañana acabó conmigo!
14Chillé como golondrina, como grulla;
gemí como paloma.
Mis ojos se cansaron de mirar al cielo.
¡Angustiado estoy, Señor!
¡Acude en mi ayuda!
15»Pero ¿qué puedo decir?
Él mismo me lo anunció y así lo ha hecho.
Toda mi vida andaré humildemente,
por causa de la amargura de mi alma.
16Señor, por tales cosas viven los hombres
y también mi espíritu encuentra vida en ellas.
Tú me devolviste la salud
y me diste vida.
17Sin duda, fue para mi bien
pasar por tal angustia.
Con tu amor me guardaste
de la fosa destructora,
y les diste la espalda
a todos mis pecados.
18El sepulcro38:18 sepulcro. Lit. Seol. nada te agradece;
la muerte no te alaba.
Los que descienden a la fosa
nada esperan de tu fidelidad.
19Los que viven y solo los que viven, son los que te alaban,
como hoy te alabo yo.
Los padres hablarán a sus hijos
de tu fidelidad.
20»El Señor me salvará,
y en el Templo del Señor
todos los días de nuestra vida
cantaremos con instrumentos de cuerda».
21Isaías había dicho: «Preparen una pasta de higos, aplíquensela en la llaga y él se recuperará».
22Y Ezequías había preguntado: «¿Qué señal recibiré de que se me permitirá subir al Templo del Señor?».
