2Car l’Eternel est en colère
contre l’ensemble des nations,
il est furieux ╵contre toutes leurs troupes,
il les voue à lui-même :
il les livre au massacre.
3Leurs victimes seront jetées,
l’odeur de leurs cadavres ╵se répandra,
leur sang ruissellera ╵sur les montagnes.
4Toute l’armée du ciel ╵en pourriture tombera ;
le ciel s’enroulera ╵comme on enroule un livre,
tous les astres se décomposeront
comme se décomposent ╵les feuilles de la vigne

6L’épée de l’Eternel ╵est saturée de sang ╵et couverte de graisse,
du sang des boucs ╵et des agneaux,
des parties grasses ╵des rognons de béliers.
Car pour l’Eternel est prévu ╵un sacrifice dans Botsra
et un grand carnage en Edom.
7En même temps, les buffles tomberont,
avec les bœufs et les taureaux,
le pays tout entier ╵est abreuvé de sang,
la poussière du sol ╵est imprégnée de graisse,
8car il y a un jour ╵où l’Eternel rétribuera,
et une année ╵où il fera rendre des comptes ╵pour défendre la cause de Sion.
9Les rivières d’Edom ╵seront changées en poix
et sa poussière en soufre,
et tout son territoire ╵deviendra de la poix brûlante.
10Ni la nuit ni le jour, ╵elle ne s’éteindra,
sa fumée montera ╵à perpétuité

personne n’y passera plus.
11Le hibou et le hérisson ╵en prendront possession,
la chouette et le corbeau ╵en feront leur demeure,
et l’Eternel y étendra ╵le cordeau du chaos,
le fil à plomb du vide.
12Ses nobles ne pourront ╵plus proclamer de roi34.12 Autre traduction : ses nobles n’auront plus rien qui puisse s’appeler royaume.,
et tous ses grands ╵seront réduits à rien.
13Les épineux croîtront ╵dans ses palais,
les orties et les ronces ╵dans ses fortins.
Ce sera un repaire ╵pour les chacals,
un domaine pour les autruches :
14les bêtes du désert ╵y trouveront les hyènes,
les boucs sauvages ╵s’y héleront l’un l’autre.
La chouette nocturne ╵viendra s’y reposer
car elle y trouvera ╵un endroit bien tranquille.
15Le serpent y fera son nid ╵et y pondra ses œufs,
il les y couvera ╵et les fera éclore sous son ombre.
Là, les vautours ╵se rassembleront tous,
chacun avec son compagnon.
Le nouvel exode
16Consultez et lisez le livre ╵de l’Eternel :
aucun des membres de son peuple, ╵ne manquera,
aucun d’eux n’aura à chercher34.16 D’autres comprennent : aucune de ces bêtes… aucune n’aura à chercher. ╵en vain son compagnon,
car l’Eternel, ╵de sa bouche, en a donné l’ordre,
c’est son Esprit ╵qui les a rassemblées.
17Il a lui-même ╵tiré au sort ╵pour assigner ╵à chacun d’eux son lot,
il leur a partagé ╵le pays au cordeau :
ils l’auront en partage ╵à tout jamais,
ils y habiteront toujours.
