1Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom. 2Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite; 3And Bashemath Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth.36.3 Bashemath: or, Mahalath 4And Adah bare to Esau Eliphaz; and Bashemath bare Reuel; 5And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan. 6And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.36.6 persons: Heb. souls 7For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle. 8Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.
9¶ And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir:36.9 the Edomites: Heb. Edom 10These are the names of Esau’s sons; Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Bashemath the wife of Esau. 11And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz.36.11 Zepho: or, Zephi 12And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau’s son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau’s wife. 13And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Bashemath Esau’s wife.
14¶ And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau’s wife: and she bare to Esau Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah.
15¶ These were dukes of the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz the firstborn son of Esau; duke Teman, duke Omar, duke Zepho, duke Kenaz, 16Duke Korah, duke Gatam, and duke Amalek: these are the dukes that came of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these were the sons of Adah.
17¶ And these are the sons of Reuel Esau’s son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these are the dukes that came of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Bashemath Esau’s wife.
18¶ And these are the sons of Aholibamah Esau’s wife; duke Jeush, duke Jaalam, duke Korah: these were the dukes that came of Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau’s wife. 19These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are their dukes.

Berättelsen över Esaus släkt
(1 Krön 1:35-42)
1Här följer berättelsen över Esaus släkt, han som också kallas Edom:
2Esau gifte sig med flickor från Kanaan: Ada, dotter till hettiten Elon, Oholivama, dotter till Ana och sondotter till hivén Sivon, 3och Basemat, dotter till Ismael och syster till Nevajot.
4Med Ada fick Esau sonen Elifas. Med Basemat fick han Reguel.
5Med Oholivama fick han sönerna Jeush, Jalam och Korach. Dessa föddes åt Esau i Kanaans land.
6Esau tog sina hustrur, barn, hela sitt husfolk, sin boskap och sina dragdjur, all rikedom som han hade fått i Kanaans land, och flyttade till ett annat land, bort från sin bror Jakob. 7Det fanns inte rum för dem båda på grund av all den egendom de hade. Landet där de bodde räckte inte till för dem nu när de hade så mycket djur. 8Så bosatte sig Esau i Seirs bergsbygd, dvs. Edom.

Elifas, som var född av Esaus hustru Ada, och Reguel, född av Esaus hustru Basemat.
11Elifas söner var
Teman, Omar, Sefo, Gatam och Kenas.
12Med sin bihustru Timna fick Elifas, Esaus son, dessutom Amalek. Dessa var ättlingar till Esaus hustru Ada.
13Reguels söner var:
Nachat, Serach, Shamma och Missa. De var ättlingar till Esaus hustru Basemat.
14Med sin hustru, Oholivama, dotter till Ana och sondotter till Sivon, fick han sönerna Jeush, Jalam och Korach.
15Från Esau kom följande stamhövdingar:
Esaus förstfödde Elifas söner var hövdingarna Teman, Omar, Sefo, Kenas, 16Korach, Gatam och Amalek, som var Elifas stamhövdingar i Edom, alltså Adas ättlingar.
17Esaus son Reguels ättlingar var Nachat, Serach, Shamma och Missa, som alltså var stamhövdingar i Edom, Esaus hustru Basemats ättlingar.
18Esaus hustru Oholivamas ättlingar var stamhövdingarna Jeush, Jalam och Korach. De var alltså stamhövdingar som härstammade från Esaus hustru Oholivama, dotter till Ana.
19Dessa var Esaus söner och stamhövdingar som härstammade från dem. Esau är lika med Edom.
20Horéen Seirs söner, urinvånarna i landet, var följande: Lotan, Shoval, Sivon, Ana, 21Dishon, Eser och Dishan. Dessa var alltså Seirs söners, horéernas, stamhövdingar i Edom.
22Lotans söner var Hori och Hemam. Timna var syster till Lotan.
23Shovals söner var Alvan, Manachat, Eval, Shefo och Onam.
24Sivons söner var Aja och Ana. Detta var den Ana som upptäckte de heta källorna i ökenlandet medan han gick och vaktade sin fars åsnor.
25Anas barn var Dishon och Oholivama.
26Dishons söner var Hemdan, Eshban, Jitran och Keran.
27Esers söner var Bilhan, Saavan och Akan.
28Dishans söner var Us och Aran.
29Horéernas stamhövdingar var Lotan, Shoval, Sivon, Ana, 30Dishon, Eser och Dishan. Dessa var alltså horéernas stamhövdingar i Seirs land, efter sina områden.
Edoms kungar

31Detta är de kungar som härskade i Edom innan Israel hade någon kung:
32Bela, Beors son, blev kung i Edom, och namnet på hans stad var Dinhava.
33När Bela dog blev Jovav, Serachs son, från Bosra, kung efter honom.
34När Jovav dog blev Husham från temanéernas land kung efter honom.
35När Husham dog blev Bedads son Hadad kung. Han besegrade midjaniterna i Moab, och han regerade från Avit.
36När Hadad dog besteg Samla från Masreka tronen.
37När sedan Samla dog blev Saul från Rechovot vid floden kung efter honom.
38När Saul dog blev Akbors son Baal Hanan kung.
39När Baal Hanan dog blev Hadar kung efter honom. Han regerade från Pagu. Hans hustru hette Mehetavel och var dotter till Matred, som var dotter till Me Sahav.
40Detta är alltså namnen på Esaus stamhövdingar, namn för namn efter sina släkten och boplatser:
furstarna Timna, Alva, Jetet, 41Oholivama, Ela, Pinon, 42Kenas, Teman, Mivsar, 43Magdiel och Iram. Dessa var Edoms stamfurstar efter deras boplatser i det land de tagit i besittning, och detta var Esau, Edoms stamfar.
