1And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations; 2That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar. 3All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea. 4Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled. 5And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim,14.5 Shaveh…: or, The plain of Kiriathaim 6And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto El-paran, which is by the wilderness.14.6 El-paran: or, The plain of Paran 7And they returned, and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezon-tamar. 8And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim; 9With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five. 10And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain. 11And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way. 12And they took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
13¶ And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.14.13 plain: Heb. plains 14And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.14.14 armed: or, led forth14.14 trained: or, instructed 15And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus. 16And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
17¶ And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king’s dale. 18And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. 19And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: 20And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
21And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.14.21 persons: Heb. souls 22And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, 23That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich: 24Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.
Avram îl salvează pe Lot
1În zilele lui Amrafel, regele Șinarului1, 9 Sau: Babiloniei., a lui Ariok, regele Elasarului, a lui Chedorlaomer, regele Elamului, și a lui Tidal, regele Goyimului, s‑a întâmplat că 2ei au pornit la luptă împotriva lui Bera, regele Sodomei, a lui Birșa, regele Gomorei, a lui Șinab, regele Admei, a lui Șemeber, regele Țeboimului, și împotriva regelui Belei (care este Țoarul). 3Toți aceștia din urmă s‑au unit în valea Sidimului, adică Marea Sărată3 Marea Moartă.. 4Ei îl slujiseră pe Chedorlaomer timp de doisprezece ani, dar în al treisprezecelea an s‑au răsculat.
5În al paisprezecelea an, Chedorlaomer și regii care erau cu el au venit și i‑au învins pe refaiți la Aștarot-Karnaim, pe zuziți la Ham, pe emiți la Șave Chiriatayim 6și pe horiți la muntele lor, din Seir până la El‑Paran, care este lângă pustie. 7Apoi s‑au întors și au venit la En‑Mișpat sau Kadeș, unde au cucerit tot teritoriul amalekiților, precum și pe amoriții care locuiau în Hațațon-Tamar.
8Atunci regele Sodomei, regele Gomorei, regele Admei, regele Țeboimului și regele Belei (care este Țoarul), au ieșit și s‑au pregătit de luptă, în valea Sidimului, 9împotriva lui Chedorlaomer, regele Elamului, a lui Tidal, regele Goyimului, a lui Amrafel, regele Șinarului și a lui Ariok, regele Elasarului – patru regi împotriva a cinci. 10Valea Sidimului era plină de gropi cu smoală. Regii Sodomei și Gomorei au fugit și au căzut în ele, iar cei rămași au fugit înspre dealuri. 11Cei patru regi au luat toate bunurile Sodomei și Gomorei, precum și toată hrana acestora, și au plecat. 12Ei l‑au luat și pe Lot, fiul fratelui lui Avram, împreună cu bunurile lui, și au plecat (Lot locuia în Sodoma).
13Un om care a scăpat cu viață a venit și i‑a spus acest lucru lui Avram, evreul, care locuia lângă stejarii amoritului Mamre, fratele13 Sau: ruda; sau: aliatul. lui Eșcol și al lui Aner. Aceștia erau aliați cu Avram prin legământ. 14Când a auzit Avram că nepotul său fusese luat captiv, și‑a mobilizat cei trei sute optsprezece oameni instruiți pentru luptă, născuți în casa lui, și i‑a urmărit pe regi până la Dan. 15Apoi și‑a împărțit slujitorii în timpul nopții, i‑a învins pe regi și i‑a urmărit până la Hoba, care este la nord15 Lit.: stânga. În vremea aceea, în Orient punctele cardinale erau determinate de poziția cu fața spre răsărit, nu spre nord. de Damasc. 16Avram a adus înapoi toate bunurile. L‑a adus înapoi și pe nepotul său, Lot, împreună cu toate bunurile lui, precum și pe femei și pe ceilalți oameni.
17După ce Avram s‑a întors de la înfrângerea lui Chedorlaomer și a regilor care erau cu el, regele din Sodoma i‑a ieșit în întâmpinare în valea Șave, adică Valea Regelui. 18Melchisedek, regele Salemului18 Probabil Ierusalimul., a adus pâine și vin. Acesta era preot al Dumnezeului cel Preaînalt18 Ebr.: El‑Elion [peste tot în capitol].. 19El l‑a binecuvântat pe Avram și a zis:
„Binecuvântat să fie Avram de Dumnezeul cel Preaînalt,
Creatorul19, 22 Este posibil ca termenul ebraic să aibă și sensul de proprietar, posesor. cerurilor și al pământului,
20și binecuvântat să fie Dumnezeul cel Preaînalt,
Care i‑a dat pe vrăjmașii tăi în mâinile tale!“
Și Avram i‑a dat zeciuială din toate.
21Apoi regele din Sodoma i‑a zis lui Avram:
– Dă‑mi oamenii și păstrează bunurile pentru tine.
22Dar Avram i‑a răspuns regelui din Sodoma:
– I‑am jurat Domnului, Dumnezeul cel Preaînalt, Creatorul cerurilor și al pământului, 23că nu voi lua nici măcar un fir de ață sau o curea de sanda din ceea ce este al tău, pentru ca să nu spui că l‑ai îmbogățit pe Avram. 24Eu nu voi lua nimic, în afară de ceea ce au mâncat oamenii mei și de partea celor care au mers împreună cu mine – Aner, Eșkol și Mamre. Ei să‑și ia partea lor.
