1Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city; 2Which came with Zerubbabel: Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah. 64¶ The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore, 65Beside their servants and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and there were among them two hundred singing men and singing women. 66Their horses were seven hundred thirty and six; their mules, two hundred forty and five; 67Their camels, four hundred thirty and five; their asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

68¶ And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place: 69They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments. 70So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

62Eles examinaram seus registros de família, mas não conseguiram achá-los e foram considerados impuros para o sacerdócio. 63Por isso o governador os proibiu de comer alimentos sagrados enquanto não houvesse um sacerdote capaz de consultar Deus por meio do Urim e do Tumim2.63 Objetos utilizados para se conhecer a vontade de Deus..

64A totalidade dos que voltaram do exílio atingiu o número de 42.360 homens, 65além dos seus 7.337 servos e servas; havia entre eles 200 cantores e cantoras. 66Possuíam 736 cavalos, 245 mulas, 67435 camelos e 6.720 jumentos.

68Quando chegaram ao templo do Senhor em Jerusalém, alguns dos chefes das famílias deram ofertas voluntárias para a reconstrução do templo de Deus no seu antigo local. 69De acordo com as suas possibilidades, deram à tesouraria para essa obra quinhentos quilos2.69 Hebraico: 61.000 dracmas. de ouro, três toneladas2.69 Hebraico: 5.000 minas. Uma mina equivalia a 600 gramas. de prata e cem vestes sacerdotais.

70Os sacerdotes, os levitas, os cantores, os porteiros e os servidores do templo, bem como os demais israelitas, estabeleceram-se em suas cidades de origem.
