1The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying, 2What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge? 3As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel. 4Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
5¶ But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,18.5 that…: Heb. judgment and justice 6And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour’s wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman, 7And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment; 8He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man, 9Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.
10¶ If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,18.10 robber: or, breaker up of an house18.10 that doeth…: or, that doeth to his brother besides any of these 11And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour’s wife, 12Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination, 13Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.18.13 blood: Heb. bloods
14¶ Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father’s sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like, 15That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour’s wife, 16Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,18.16 hath not…: Heb. hath not pledged the pledge, or, taken to pledge 17That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live. 18As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.
19¶ Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live. 20The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
21But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 22All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. 23Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
24¶ But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
25¶ Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? 26When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 27Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. 28Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 29Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
30Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.18.30 yourselves: or, others
31¶ Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? 32For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.18.32 yourselves: or, others
ثمره عدالت و ثمره گناه
1-2بار ديگر خداوند به من پيغامی داد و فرمود:
«چرا مردم در سرزمين اسرائيل اين ضرب‌المثل را به کار می‌برند كه غوره را پدران خوردند و دندان فرزندانشان كند شد؟ 3به حيات خود قسم كه شما ديگر در اسرائيل اين ضرب‌المثل را به کار نخواهيد برد، 4چون جان همه، برای داوری و محاكمه در دست من است، چه جان پدران، چه جان پسران؛ و قانون من برای داوری اينست: هر كه گناه كند، فقط خودش خواهد مرد.
5«كسی كه خوب و با انصاف و درستكار باشد، 6و به کوهها برای پرستش بتهای اسرائيل نرود؛ زنا نكند و با زنی كه در دوران قاعدگی‌اش است، همبستر نشود؛ 7ظلم نكند؛ گرو بدهكار را به او برگرداند؛ مال مردم را نخورد، بلكه گرسنگان را سير كند و برهنگان را بپوشاند؛ 8قرض بدهد و سود نگيرد؛ از ستم دوری كند و در مورد ديگران درست و بدون غرض قضاوت نمايد؛ 9و خلاصه تمام دستورات و قوانين مرا اطاعت كند، چنين شخص درستكار و نيكوكردار است و به يقين زنده خواهد ماند.
10«ولی اگر يک چنين شخصی، پسری ستم‌پيشه و يا آدمكش داشته باشد و مرتكب تمام اين كارهای زشت بشود، 11و نخواهد آن اعمال نيک را بجا آورد، بلكه بر کوهها بت‌پرستی نمايد؛ همسر مرد ديگری را اغفال كند؛ 12به فقرا و مستمندان ظلم كند؛ مال مردم را بخورد؛ گرو بدهكاران را پس ندهد؛ بتها را دوست بدارد و آنها را بپرستد؛ 13و رباخوار باشد؛ آيا اين شخص زنده خواهد ماند؟ به هيچ وجه! او به سبب همه كارهای زشتی كه انجام داده است، خواهد مرد و خونش بر گردن خودش خواهد بود.
14«ولی اگر اين پسر گناهكار نيز پسری داشته باشد كه تمام گناهان پدرش را ببيند و تصميم بگيرد خداترس باشد و برخلاف روش پدرش زندگی كند؛ 15برای پرستش بتها به کوهها نرود؛ زنا نكند؛ 16ظلم نكند؛ گرو نگيرد؛ مال ديگران را نخورد، بلكه گرسنگان را سير كند و برهنگان را بپوشاند؛ 17مستمندان را دستگيری نمايد و رباخوار نباشد و دستورات و قوانين مرا اطاعت كند، او به سبب گناهان پدرش نخواهد مرد، بلكه حتماً زنده خواهد ماند. 18اما پدرش به سبب گناهان خودش خواهد مرد، چون نسبت به ديگران بی‌رحم بوده و مال مردم را غصب كرده و اعمال نادرست در ميان قوم انجام داده است.
19«ممكن است بپرسيد كه چرا پسر برای گناهان پدرش مجازات نمی‌شود؟ به اين دليل كه پسر درستكار و راستكردار بوده و احكام و قوانين مرا اطاعت نموده است. بنابراين حتماً زنده خواهد ماند. 20هر كه گناه كند، خودش خواهد مرد! نه پسر برای گناهان پدرش مجازات خواهد شد و نه پدر برای گناهان پسرش. انسان خوب و درستكار، پاداش خوبی و نيكوكاری خود را خواهد يافت و انسان بدكردار نيز به سزای اعمال خود خواهد رسيد. 21اما اگر شخص شروری از تمام بديها و گناهان خود دست بكشد و مطيع احكام و قوانين من گردد و راستی و انصاف را پيشهٔ خود سازد، به يقين زنده مانده، نخواهد مرد. 22تمام گناهان گذشته او آمرزيده خواهد شد و به سبب راستكرداری‌اش، زنده خواهد ماند.»
23خداوند می‌فرمايد: «آيا فكر می‌كنيد كه من از مردن شخص خطاكار، شاد می‌شوم؟ هرگز! شادی من در اينست كه او از راههای بد خويش بازگردد و زنده بماند. 24اما اگر شخص درستكار عدالت را ترک گويد و مرتكب گناه گردد و مانند ساير گناهكاران رفتار كند، آيا او زنده خواهد ماند؟ البته كه نه! تمام خوبی‌های گذشته‌اش ناديده گرفته می‌شود و به سبب خيانت و گناهانی كه كرده است، خواهد مرد.
25«ولی شما می‌گوييد: ”روش خداوند منصفانه نيست!“ ای قوم اسرائيل به من گوش دهيد! آيا من بی‌انصافم يا شما؟ 26وقتی شخص خوب از درستكاری دست كشد و به گناه روی آورد، يقيناً خواهد مرد؛ او به سبب گناهانی كه كرده است، خواهد مرد. 27و اگر شخص بدكار از بدی‌هايش دست بكشد و درستكار و با انصاف گردد، جان خود را نجات خواهد داد، 28زيرا به وضع بد خود پی برده و تصميم گرفته است كه از گناهان خود دست بكشد و زندگی درستی را در پيش بگيرد. بنابراين، او زنده مانده، نخواهد مرد.
29«با وجود اين، شما ای قوم اسرائيل می‌گوييد: ”روش خداوند منصفانه نيست!“ ای قوم اسرائيل، آيا روش من غيرمنصفانه است، يا روش شما؟ 30ای بنی‌اسرائيل، من هر يک از شما را مطابق اعمالتان داوری خواهم نمود. پس تا فرصت داريد توبه كنيد و از گناهان خود دست بكشيد، تا باعث هلاكتتان نگردد! 31گناهانتان را از خود دور نماييد و دل و روحی تازه در خود ايجاد كنيد! ای قوم اسرائيل، چرا بايد هلاک شويد؟ 32من از مرگ شما شاد نمی‌شوم. پس توبه كنيد و زنده بمانيد!»
