1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: 2Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: 10That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
15Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, 16Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; 17That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
1Eu, Paulo, escolhido pela vontade de Deus para ser apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, escrevo esta carta aos santos em Éfeso, os que são fiéis a Jesus Cristo. 2Que Deus, nosso Pai, e o Senhor Jesus Cristo vos deem graça e paz.
Bênçãos espirituais em Cristo
3Louvor seja dado a Deus, o Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, pois nos encheu de todas as bênçãos nos lugares celestiais, a nós que vivemos em comunhão espiritual com Cristo. 4Antes de ter criado o mundo, Deus escolheu-nos para lhe pertencermos e passarmos a viver de uma forma santa e irrepreensível, em amor. 5No seu plano, propôs-se tornar-nos seus filhos. 6É por isso que lhe dirigimos louvor e honra pela sua graça para connosco, através da pessoa do seu amado Filho.
7Tão rica é a generosidade da sua graça, que ele pagou a nossa redenção, através do sangue do seu Filho, e as nossas transgressões foram perdoadas. 8Graça essa que se traduziu abundantemente nas nossas vidas em sabedoria e compreensão; 9tornando assim possível termos conhecimento do plano que Deus tinha arquitetado a favor da humanidade, mas que mantivera por revelar até ao momento por ele determinado. 10E o objetivo final desse plano é, quando chegar o tempo oportuno disso acontecer, juntar sob o governo de Cristo todas as coisas, no céu e na Terra.
11Através de Cristo nós recebemos a herança de Deus e fomos escolhidos para lhe pertencermos, segundo a resolução por ele previamente estabelecida. 12O propósito de Deus, para o qual fomos destinados, é celebrarmos a sua grandeza, nós os que primeiro esperámos em Cristo. 13E vocês igualmente, depois de terem ouvido a mensagem da verdade, as boas novas da vossa salvação, e tendo crido em Cristo, foram selados com o Espírito Santo, já anteriormente prometido. 14A presença do Espírito em nós é a prova de que Deus nos dará a herança que nos prometeu, para nos redimir como uma aquisição muito sua, para louvarmos a glória de Deus.
Oração e ação de graças
15Pelo que, ouvindo falar da vossa fé no Senhor Jesus e do vosso amor por todos os irmãos crentes, 16não me canso de agradecer a Deus por vocês. E nas minhas orações 17peço-lhe, a ele que é o Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, o qual possui toda a glória do céu, que através do conhecimento cada vez mais profundo de si mesmo vos dê sabedoria para poderem claramente compreender o que Deus vos revela. 18E que os vossos entendimentos sejam iluminados para poderem ter uma ideia nítida dessa esperança para a qual vos chamou, e para perceberem a extensão gloriosa de tudo aquilo que está reservado para aqueles que são seus santos filhos. 19E, mais ainda, para se darem conta do ilimitado poder que dispõe a nosso favor, nós os que cremos em resultado da ação dessa força divina que nos transformou. 20Esse poder grandioso foi também o que ressuscitou a Cristo, levantando-o dentre os mortos e colocando-o à direita de Deus nos domínios celestiais e 21acima de todo e qualquer chefe e autoridade, acima de todo o poder e governo que possa existir. O nome de Jesus ultrapassa em autoridade não só todos os que dominam neste mundo atual, como no mundo que há de vir. 22Deus colocou tudo o que existe no universo sob a autoridade de Cristo, e fez dele a cabeça de todas as coisas, para benefício da igreja, 23a qual é o seu corpo; é ele que a enche com a sua presença, como também enche todas as coisas em todo o lugar.
