1When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; 2And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them: 3Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. 4For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly. 5But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.7.5 their images: Heb. their statues, or, pillars 6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. 7The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 8But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; 10And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face. 11Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
12¶ Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:7.12 if: Heb. because 13And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee. 14Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. 15And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee. 16And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee. 17If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them? 18Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt; 19The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid. 20Moreover the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed. 21Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible. 22And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.7.22 put…: Heb. pluck off 23But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.7.23 unto…: Heb. before thy face 24And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them. 25The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God. 26Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.
قوم خاص خدا
(خروج 34:11-16)
1هنگامی كه خداوند شما را به سرزمينی كه در شرف تصرفش هستيد، ببرد، اين هفت قوم را كه همگی از شما بزرگتر و قويترند نابود خواهد ساخت: حيتی‌ها، جرجاشی‌ها، اموری‌ها، كنعانی‌ها، فرزی‌ها، حوی‌ها و يبوسی‌ها. 2زمانی كه خداوند، خدايتان آنها را به شما تسليم كند و شما آنها را مغلوب نماييد، بايد همهٔ آنها را بكشيد. با آنها معاهده‌ای نبنديد و به آنها رحم نكنيد، بلكه ايشان را به کلی نابود سازيد. 3با آنها ازدواج نكنيد و نگذاريد فرزندانتان با پسران و دختران ايشان ازدواج كنند. 4چون در نتيجهٔ ازدواج با آنها جوانانتان به بت‌پرستی كشيده خواهند شد و همين سبب خواهد شد كه خشم خداوند نسبت به شما افروخته شود و شما را به کلی نابود سازد.
5قربانگاه‌های كافران را بشكنيد، ستونهايی را كه می‌پرستند خرد كنيد و مجسمه‌های شرم‌آور را تكه‌تكه نموده، بتهايشان را بسوزانيد؛ 6چون شما قوم مقدسی هستيد كه به خداوند، خدايتان اختصاص يافته‌ايد. او از بين تمام مردم روی زمين شما را انتخاب كرده است تا برگزيدگان او باشيد. 7شما كوچكترين قوم روی زمين بوديد، پس او شما را به سبب اينكه قومی بزرگتر از ساير قومها بوديد برنگزيد و محبت نكرد، 8بلكه به اين دليل كه شما را دوست داشت و می‌خواست عهد خود را كه با پدرانتان بسته بود بجا آورد. به همين دليل است كه او شما را با چنين قدرت و معجزات عجيب و بزرگی از بردگی در مصر رهانيد.
بركات اطاعت از خدا
(تثنيه 28:1-14)
9پس بدانيد كه تنها خدايی كه وجود دارد خداوند، خدايتان است و او همان خدای امينی است كه تا هزاران نسل وعده‌های خود را نگاه داشته پيوسته كسانی را كه او را دوست می‌دارند و دستوراتش را اطاعت می‌كنند محبت می‌نمايد. 10ولی آنانی را كه از او نفرت دارند بی‌درنگ مجازات و نابود می‌كند. 11بنابراين، تمام اين فرمانهايی را كه امروز به شما می‌دهم اجرا كنيد.
12اگر به اين فرمانها توجه كرده، آنها را اطاعت نماييد، خداوند، خدايتان عهدی را كه از روی رحمت خويش با پدران شما برقرار نمود ادا خواهد كرد. 13او شما را دوست خواهد داشت و بركت خواهد داد و از شما قومی بزرگ بوجود خواهد آورد. او شما را بارور نموده، زمين و حيواناتتان را بركت خواهد داد تا محصول زيادی از گندم، انگور، زيتون و گله‌های گاو و گوسفند داشته باشيد. تمام اين بركات را در سرزمينی كه به پدرانتان وعده فرمود، به شما خواهد بخشيد. 14بيشتر از تمامی قومهای روی زمين بركت خواهيد يافت و هيچكدام از شما و حتی گله‌هايتان نازا نخواهد بود. 15خداوند تمام امراضتان را از شما دور نموده، اجازه نخواهد داد به هيچكدام از بيماريهايی كه در مصر ديده‌ايد دچار شويد. او همهٔ اين مرضها را به دشمنانتان خواهد داد.
16تمامی قومهایی را كه خداوند، خدايتان به دست شما گرفتار می‌سازد نابود كنيد. به ايشان رحم نكنيد و خدايان ايشان را پرستش ننماييد، و گرنه در دام مهلكی گرفتار خواهيد شد. 17شايد پيش خودتان فكر كنيد: «چگونه می‌توانيم بر اين قومهایی كه از ما قويترند پيروز شويم؟» 18ولی از آنها باک نداشته باشيد! كافيست آنچه را خداوند، خدايتان با فرعون و سراسر سرزمين مصر كرد به خاطر آوريد. 19آيا بلاهای وحشتناكی را كه خداوند بر سر آنها آورد و شما با چشمان خود آن را ديديد و نيز معجزات بزرگ و قوت و قدرت خداوند را كه بدان وسيله شما را از سرزمين مصر بيرون آورد به خاطر داريد؟ پس بدانيد كه خداوند، خدايتان همين قدرت را عليه مردمی كه از آنها می‌ترسيد به كار خواهد برد. 20از اين گذشته، خداوند، خدايتان زنبورهای سرخ و درشتی خواهد فرستاد تا آن عده از دشمنانتان را نيز كه خود را پنهان كرده‌اند، نابود سازد.
21بنابراين از آن قومها نترسيد، زيرا خداوند، خدايتان در ميان شماست. او خدايی است بزرگ و مهيب. 22او به تدریج آنها را بيرون خواهد راند. اين كار را به سرعت انجام نخواهد داد، زيرا اگر چنين كند حيوانات وحشی بزودی افزايش يافته، برای شما ايجاد خطر خواهند كرد. 23او اين كار را به تدریج انجام خواهد داد و شما هم به آن قومها حمله نموده، آنها را از بين خواهيد برد. 24او پادشاهان آنها را به دست شما خواهد سپرد و شما نام ايشان را از صفحهٔ روزگار محو خواهيد كرد. هيچكس يارای مقاومت در برابر شما را نخواهد داشت.
25بتهايشان را بسوزانيد و به طلا و نقره‌ای كه اين بتها از آن ساخته شده‌اند طمع نكنيد و آن را برنداريد و گرنه گرفتار خواهيد شد، زيرا خداوند، خدايتان از بتها متنفر است. 26بتی را به خانهٔ خود نبريد، چون همان لعنتی كه بر آن است بر شما نيز خواهد بود. از بتها نفرت و كراهت داشته باشيد، چون لعنت شده‌اند.
