1The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance. 2Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: the LORD is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.
3¶ And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw. 4The firstfruit also of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him. 5For the LORD thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons for ever.
6¶ And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which the LORD shall choose; 7Then he shall minister in the name of the LORD his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before the LORD. 8They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.18.8 that…: Heb. his sale by the fathers
9¶ When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. 10There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. 13Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.18.13 perfect: or, upright, or, sincere 14For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.18.14 possess: or, inherit
15¶ The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; 16According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. 17And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. 18I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. 19And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. 20But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? 22When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
Dreptul preotului și al levitului
1Preoții leviți – întreaga seminție a lui Levi – să nu aibă teritoriu sau moștenire împreună cu Israel. Ei se vor hrăni din jertfele mistuite de foc în cinstea Domnului și din moștenirea Lui. 2Să nu aibă moștenire în mijlocul fraților lui, căci Domnul este moștenirea lui, după cum i‑a spus.
3Acesta va fi dreptul preoților de la popor, de la cei ce aduc o jertfă, fie un bou, fie o oaie: să i se dea preotului spata, fălcile și viscerele. 4Să‑i dai primele roade din grânele tale, din mustul tău și din uleiul tău, și prima lână de la turmele tale. 5Căci Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, l‑a ales pe el și pe urmașii lui, dintre toate semințiile tale, ca să stea și să slujească în Numele Domnului în toate zilele vieții lor.
6Dacă un levit se va muta din cetatea în care locuiește în Israel și se va duce după propria‑i dorință într‑un alt loc pe care Domnul îl va alege, 7iar acolo va sluji în Numele Domnului, Dumnezeul lui, asemenea fraților lui leviți, care slujesc acolo în prezența Domnului, 8să aibă drept hrană o parte egală cu a lor, pe lângă bunurile părintești vândute.
Practici detestate de Domnul
9Când vei intra în țara pe care ți‑o dă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, să nu înveți să practici urâciunile acelor neamuri. 10Să nu se găsească la tine nimeni care să‑și treacă fiul sau fiica prin foc10 Cu referire la jertfele umane pe care canaaniții le aduceau zeului Moleh (vezi 12:31 și Lev. 18:21)., care să practice divinația10 Arta de a descoperi voia zeilor/a divinității și de a prezice viitorul prin aruncarea sorților, examinarea ficatului animalelor (Eze. 21:26), oracole, proorocii/viziuni (Ier. 27:9) și invocarea spiritelor celor morți (1 Sam. 28:8)., prezicerea10 Vezi nota de la Lev. 19:26., interpretarea semnelor,10 Vezi notele de la Gen. 30:27; 44:5, 15. vrăjitoria, 11care să lege prin descântece, care să întrebe duhurile morților și care să cheme spiritele11 Vezi nota de la Lev. 19:31. sau care să caute pe cei morți, 12pentru că oricine practică toate aceste lucruri este o urâciune înaintea Domnului. Căci din cauza acestor urâciuni le va alunga dinaintea ta Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, pe aceste neamuri. 13Tu să fii fără pată înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeul tău. 14Căci neamurile acestea, pe care tu le vei alunga, ascultă de cei ce prezic14 Vezi nota de la Lev. 19:26. și practică divinația.14 Vezi nota de la Deut. 18:10. Ție însă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, nu‑ți îngăduie așa ceva.
Un Profet asemenea lui Moise
15Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, îți va ridica din mijlocul tău, dintre frații tăi, un Profet asemenea mie. De El să ascultați! 16Căci aceasta este ceea ce ai cerut de la Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, la Horeb în ziua adunării, zicând: «Să nu mai aud glasul Domnului, Dumnezeul meu, și să nu mai văd focul acesta mare ca să nu mor!»
17Atunci Domnul mi‑a zis: «Ceea ce au spus ei este bine. 18Le voi ridica, din mijlocul fraților lor, un Profet asemenea ție. Voi pune cuvintele Mele în gura Lui, iar El le va vorbi tot ceea ce‑I voi porunci. 19Dacă cineva nu va asculta de cuvintele pe care le va spune în Numele Meu, Eu îi voi cere socoteală. 20Însă profetul care va îndrăzni să vorbească în Numele Meu un cuvânt pe care Eu nu i l‑am poruncit să‑l spună sau care va vorbi în numele altor dumnezei, acel profet va trebui să moară.»
21Dacă vei zice în inima ta: «Cum vom recunoaște cuvântul pe care nu l‑a spus Domnul?» 22Când ceea ce va spune profetul în Numele Domnului nu va avea loc și nu se va întâmpla, acela va fi un cuvânt pe care nu l‑a spus Domnul. Profetul a vorbit din îngâmfare. Să nu‑ți fie teamă de el.
