1And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into Macedonia. 2And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece, 3And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia. 4And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. 5These going before tarried for us at Troas. 6And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days. 7And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. 8And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together. 9And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. 10And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him. 11When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. 12And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.
13¶ And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot. 14And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene. 15And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus. 16For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
17¶ And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church. 18And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons, 19Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: 20And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house, 21Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 22And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: 23Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. 24But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. 25And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. 26Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
28¶ Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. 32And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. 33I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel. 34Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. 35I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
36¶ And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all. 37And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul’s neck, and kissed him, 38Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.
Prin Macedonia și Grecia

Tocmai când urma să plece pe mare în Siria, iudeii au pus la cale un complot împotriva lui; atunci el a luat decizia să se întoarcă prin Macedonia. 4Îl însoțeau Sopater, fiul lui Pirus din Beroia –, Aristarhus și Secundus din Tesalonic, Gaius din Derbe, precum și Timotei, Tyhikos și Trofimos din Asia4 Vezi nota de la 2:9.. 5Aceștia au luat‑o înainte și ne‑au5 Vezi nota de la 16:10. așteptat în Troa. 6Iar noi, după zilele Sărbătorii Azimelor, am plecat pe mare din Filipi și, în cinci zile, am ajuns la ei în Troa, unde am rămas timp de șapte zile.
Învierea lui Eutih
7În prima zi a săptămânii, când ne adunaserăm să frângem pâinea7 Posibilă referire la Cina Domnului (vezi Lc. 22:19; F.A. 2:42)., Pavel, care urma să plece a doua zi, stătea de vorbă cu ucenicii și astfel și‑a prelungit vorbirea până la miezul nopții. 8În camera de sus, unde eram adunați, erau multe candele. 9Pe un tânăr numit Eutih, care stătea la fereastră, l‑a apucat un somn adânc în timpul vorbirii îndelungate a lui Pavel. Doborât de somn, a căzut de la etajul al treilea și a fost ridicat mort. 10Pavel a coborât, s‑a aplecat asupra lui și l‑a luat în brațe10 Vezi 1 Regi 17:21., zicând: „Nu vă tulburați, căci sufletul lui este în el!“ 11Apoi a urcat scările, a frânt pâinea, a mâncat și a mai discutat cu ei destul de mult timp, până în zori, după care a plecat. 12Tânărul a fost adus viu, și ei au fost nespus de încurajați.
Pavel își ia rămas bun de la bătrânii din Efes
13Noi ne‑am dus înainte la corabie și am pornit pe mare spre Assos, de unde urma să‑l luăm pe Pavel. Căci așa dăduse îndrumări, el urmând să călătorească pe uscat. 14Când s‑a întâlnit cu noi în Assos, l‑am luat și ne‑am dus în Mitilene. 15De acolo am plecat pe mare mai departe, iar a doua zi am ajuns vizavi de Chios. O zi mai târziu am sosit în Samos, apoi ne‑am oprit în Troghilion, iar în ziua următoare am ajuns în Milet. 16Căci Pavel hotărâse să treacă pe lângă Efes, ca să nu mai piardă timpul în Asia16 Vezi nota de la 2:9 [peste tot în capitol]., pentru că se grăbea să fie în Ierusalim de Ziua Cincizecimii, dacă‑i va fi posibil.
17Din Milet el a trimis la Efes și i‑a chemat pe bătrânii17 Sau: prezbiterii. bisericii.
18Când aceștia au venit la el, le‑a spus următoarele: „Știți că, încă din prima zi în care am pus piciorul în Asia, am fost cu voi tot timpul, 19slujindu‑I Domnului cu toată smerenia și cu lacrimi în mijlocul încercărilor care au venit asupra mea din cauza comploturilor iudeilor. 20N‑am oprit nimic din ceea ce vă era de folos, istorisindu‑vă și învățându‑vă în public și prin case, 21și mărturisind atât iudeilor, cât și grecilor despre pocăința față de Dumnezeu și credința în Domnul nostru Isus. 22Și acum, iată că, împins22 Lit.: legat. de Duhul, mă duc în Ierusalim, fără să știu ce mi se va întâmpla acolo. 23Doar Duhul Sfânt mă avertizează23 Sau: mă înștiințează; îmi mărturisește. în fiecare cetate că mă așteaptă lanțuri și necazuri. 24Însă îmi privesc viața ca nefiind prețioasă pentru mine, ca să‑mi pot sfârși alergarea și slujba pe care am primit‑o de la Domnul Isus, și anume să depun mărturie despre Evanghelia harului lui Dumnezeu. 25Și acum, iată, știu că nu‑mi veți mai vedea fața, voi toți aceia printre care am umblat proclamând Împărăția. 26De aceea, vă mărturisesc astăzi că sunt curat de sângele tuturor. 27Căci nu m‑am ferit să vă vestesc tot planul lui Dumnezeu. 28Fiți atenți deci la voi înșivă și la toată turma peste care Duhul Sfânt v‑a pus episcopi28 Funcția aceasta este asimilabilă prezbiterilor și pastorilor. Sau supraveghetori. ca să păstoriți Biserica lui Dumnezeu28 Unele mss conțin: Biserica Domnului., pe care El a câștigat‑o prin propriul Său sânge!28 Lit.: prin sângele Lui propriu sau prin sângele propriului Său. Construcția genitivală poate fi tradusă în ambele sensuri: prin Însuși sângele Său sau prin sângele propriului Său (Fiu). 29Știu că după plecarea mea vor veni între voi lupi feroce, care nu vor cruța turma. 30Chiar și dintre voi se vor ridica bărbați care vor spune lucruri pervertite, ca să‑i tragă pe ucenici după ei. 31De aceea, vegheați, aducându‑vă aminte că timp de trei ani, zi și noapte, n‑am încetat să sfătuiesc pe fiecare dintre voi cu lacrimi! 32Iar acum vă încredințez lui Dumnezeu și Cuvântului harului Său, Cuvânt care are putere să vă zidească și să vă dea moștenirea alături de toți cei sfințiți! 33N‑am tânjit nici după argintul, nici după aurul și nici după haina nimănui. 34Voi înșivă știți că mâinile acestea au slujit pentru nevoile mele și ale celor ce erau împreună cu mine. 35În toate v‑am arătat că, ostenindu‑ne astfel, trebuie să‑i ajutăm pe cei neputincioși și să ne aducem aminte de cuvintele Domnului Isus. Căci El Însuși a zis: «Este mai ferice să dai decât să primești!»“
36După ce a spus acestea, s‑a pus în genunchi împreună cu ei toți și s‑a rugat. 37Toți au început să plângă în hohote, au căzut la gâtul lui Pavel și l‑au sărutat mult. 38Căci erau îndurerați mai ales din cauza cuvintelor pe care le spusese el, și anume că nu‑i vor mai vedea fața. Apoi l‑au însoțit până la corabie.
