1Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. 2And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. 3And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.) 4And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. 5Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. 6And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. 7And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. 8And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. 9And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. 10When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him. 11And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. 12And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. 13And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. 14And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate. 15And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel. 16But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished. 17But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place. 18Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter. 19And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judæa to Cæsarea, and there abode.
20¶ And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country. 21And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. 22And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. 23And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
24¶ But the word of God grew and multiplied. 25And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.
Gilutos ni Herodes ang mga Tumutuo
1Niadtong panahona nagsugod si Haring Herodes sa paglutos sa pipila ka mga magtutuo. 2Gipapatay niya si Santiago nga igsoon ni Juan pinaagi sa espada. 3Sa pagkakita niya nga nalipay ang mga Judio tungod sa iyang gihimo, gipadakop usab niya si Pedro. Nahitabo kini sa panahon sa Pista sa Pan nga Walay Patubo. 4Gipapriso niya si Pedro ug gipaguwardyahan sa upat ka grupo sa mga sundalo nga tag-upat-upat kada grupo. Kining upat ka grupo nagpuli-puli ug guwardya. Sumala sa plano ni Herodes, iyang husayon ang kaso ni Pedro atubangan sa publiko pagkahuman sa Pista sa Paglabay sa Anghel. 5Busa gipaguwardyahan niya sa mga sundalo si Pedro didto sa prisohan. Apan hugot nga nagpadayon ang mga magtutuo sa ilang pag-ampo sa Dios alang kaniya.
Gipagawas si Pedro sa Prisohan
6Nianang gabii sa wala pa ang husay sa kaso ni Pedro, natulog siya nga gigapos ug duha ka kadena sa taliwala sa duha usab ka sundalo. Ug may mga guwardya pa nga nagabantay didto sa pultahan sa prisohan. 7Sa kalit lang mihayag ang sulod sa prisohan ug nagpakita ang usa ka anghel nga gisugo sa Ginoo. Gipikpik niya sa kilid si Pedro aron kini makamata, ug miingon siya, “Dali! Bangon!” Ug nangatangtang ang mga kadena nga gigapos sa mga kamot niini. 8Miingon ang anghel, “Isul-ob ang imong bisti ug sandalyas.” Gituman kini ni Pedro. Ug miingon ang anghel kaniya, “Isul-ob ang imong kupo ug sunod kanako.” 9Ug misunod siya sa anghel pagawas sa prisohan. Wala makahibalo si Pedro kon tinuod ba ang nanghitabo. Sa iyang pagtuo nagdamgo lang siya. 10Gilabyan lamang nila ang una ug ang ikaduhang mga guwardya. Pag-abot nila sa puthaw nga pultahan nga nagaatubang sa siyudad, ang pultahan miabre lag iya. Ug migawas dayon sila. Paglabay nila sa usa ka kalye kalit nahanaw ang anghel. 11Didto pa lamang niya nahibaw-i nga dili diay damgo ang nahitabo kaniya. Miingon siya, “Tinuod gayod nga gipadala sa Ginoo ang iyang anghel ug giluwas niya ako sa kamot ni Herodes ug sa tanang giplano sa mga Judio nga mahitabo kanako.”
12Sa pagkamatngon niya nga luwas na siya, miadto siya sa balay ni Maria nga inahan ni Juan Marcos. Daghang mga tawo didto nga nagtigom ug nagaampo. 13Nanuktok si Pedro sa gawas nga pultahan, ug miduol ang sulugoon nga si Roda aron tan-awon kon kinsa ang nanuktok. 14Nailhan niya ang tingog ni Pedro ug sa iyang kalipay, imbis nga ablihan niya ang pultahan, midagan hinuon siya balik sa sulod aron sultihan ang iyang mga kauban nga si Pedro atua sa gawas. 15Miingon sila kang Roda, “Nabuang ka na tingali!” Apan miinsister gayod si Roda nga naa gayod si Pedro. Busa miingon sila, “Tingali anghel kana ni Pedro.” 16Apan sa gihapon si Pedro nagpadayon sa pagtuktok. Busa giablihan nila ang pultahan ug ingon sa dili gayod sila makatuo nga si Pedro gayod diay. 17Gisinyasan sila ni Pedro nga mohilom, ug gisaysay niya kanila kon giunsa siya pagpagawas sa Ginoo gikan sa prisohan. Gisultihan niya sila nga suginlan nila si Santiago ug ang uban pang mga magtutuo. Unya migikan siya ug miadto sa laing dapit.
18Nianang pagkabuntag nagkagubot ang mga guwardya tungod kay wala na didto si Pedro ug wala sila mahibalo kon unsa ang nahitabo kaniya. 19Nagsugo si Herodes nga pangitaon siya, apan wala gayod nila siya makita. Busa gipaimbistigar niya ang mga guwardya ug gipapatay niya sila. Human niadto, mibiya si Herodes sa Judea. Miadto siya sa Cesarea ug didto na nanimuyo.
Ang Pagkamatay ni Herodes
20Nasuko kaayo si Haring Herodes sa mga tawo sa Tyre ug Sidon. Busa nagkauyon ang mga tawo nga makighusay sa hari tungod kay ang ilang lungsod didto man magkuhaan ug pagkaon sa lungsod sa hari. Sa sinugdanan, giamigo una nila si Blastus aron tabangan sila, tungod kay siya mao man ang sinaligan sa hari sa palasyo. Unya miadto sila sa hari aron makigkita kaniya. 21Pag-abot sa adlaw nga si Herodes makigkita na sa mga taga-Tyre ug taga-Sidon, gisul-ob niya ang iyang harianong bisti ug milingkod sa iyang trono ug namulong. 22Naninggit ang mga tawo, “Dili tawo kining nakigsulti, kondili dios!” 23Ug diha-diha gisilotan siya sa anghel sa Ginoo, tungod kay wala niya hatagi ug kadungganan ang Dios. Giulod siya ug namatay.
24Busa ang pulong sa Dios nagpadayon sa pagkaylap ug daghan pa gayod ang nahimong magtutuo.
25Sa laing bahin, human mahatod nila ni Barnabas ug ni Saulo ang hinabang alang sa mga magtutuo didto sa Jerusalem, namalik sila sa Antioquia. Gidala usab nila si Juan Marcos.
