1And the apostles and brethren that were in Judæa heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God. 2And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, 3Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them. 4But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying, 5I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me: 6Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. 7And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat. 8But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth. 9But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. 10And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Cæsarea unto me. 12And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house: 13And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; 14Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. 15And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 17Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? 18When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
19¶ Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only. 20And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. 21And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
22¶ Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. 23Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. 24For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord. 25Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: 26And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
27¶ And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch. 28And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Cæsar. 29Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judæa: 30Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
Petrus rechtfertigt die Taufe von Nichtjuden
1Bald darauf erfuhren die Apostel und die Gläubigen überall in Judäa, dass nun auch Nichtjuden Gottes Botschaft angenommen hatten.
2Als Petrus nach Jerusalem zurückkehrte, warfen ihm die Gemeindeglieder dort vor: 3»Du hast das Haus von Nichtjuden betreten und sogar mit ihnen gegessen!« 4Nun berichtete ihnen Petrus der Reihe nach, was geschehen war:
5»Während ich in der Stadt Joppe war, zeigte mir Gott während des Gebets eine Vision: Ich sah etwas wie ein großes Leinentuch. Es wurde an seinen vier Ecken zusammengehalten und so vom Himmel auf die Erde heruntergelassen. 6Als ich genau hinsah, entdeckte ich darin die unterschiedlichsten Arten von vierfüßigen und wilden Tieren, von Kriechtieren und Vögeln. 7Ich hörte eine Stimme, die mich aufforderte: ›Petrus, steh auf, schlachte diese Tiere und iss davon!‹ 8›Niemals, Herr‹, widersprach ich. ›Noch nie in meinem Leben habe ich etwas gegessen, was in Moses Gesetz als unrein bezeichnet wird und verboten ist.‹ 9Aber die Stimme vom Himmel sprach noch einmal: ›Wenn Gott etwas für rein erklärt hat, dann nenne du es nicht unrein.‹
10Dreimal wiederholte sich dieser Vorgang. Dann wurde das Tuch mit den Tieren darin wieder in den Himmel gehoben. 11Genau in diesem Augenblick standen drei Männer vor dem Haus, in dem ich mich befand. Sie kamen aus Cäsarea und waren zu mir geschickt worden. 12Der Heilige Geist forderte mich auf, ich solle ohne Bedenken mit den Männern gehen, und diese sechs Brüder hier begleiteten mich. Bald trafen wir im Haus des Mannes ein, der die Boten geschickt hatte. 13Er erzählte, dass ihm in seinem Haus ein Engel erschienen war. Der hatte plötzlich vor ihm gestanden und befohlen: ›Schick Boten nach Joppe und lass Simon Petrus holen. 14Was er dir zu sagen hat, wird dir und allen, die zu dir gehören, Rettung bringen.‹ 15Ich war noch gar nicht lange bei ihnen und hatte gerade zu reden angefangen, da kam der Heilige Geist auf sie, genauso wie es bei uns am Pfingsttag gewesen war.
16In diesem Augenblick fiel mir ein, was uns der Herr einmal gesagt hatte: ›Johannes hat mit Wasser getauft, ihr aber werdet mit dem Heiligen Geist getauft werden.‹ 17Gott schenkte diesen Nichtjuden dieselbe Gabe wie vorher uns, als wir begannen, an den Herrn Jesus Christus zu glauben. Wer bin ich, dass ich Gott daran hätte hindern können?«
18Diese Worte überzeugten sie. Sie lobten Gott und sagten: »Gott hat nun also auch den Nichtjuden den Weg zur Umkehr eröffnet, den einzigen Weg, der zum Leben führt.«
Gründung der Gemeinde in Antiochia
19Fast alle Gläubigen waren wegen der beginnenden Verfolgung nach dem Tod von Stephanus aus Jerusalem geflohen und hatten sich über Judäa und Samarien zerstreut. Manche kamen sogar bis nach Phönizien, Zypern und Antiochia. Sie erzählten aber nur den Juden von Jesus. 20Lediglich ein paar von ihnen – Männer aus Zypern und Kyrene, die jetzt in Antiochia lebten – verkündeten auch den Nichtjuden die rettende Botschaft von Jesus, dem Herrn. 21Der Herr wirkte mächtig durch sie, und so wandten sich ihm viele Menschen zu und glaubten an ihn.
22Als die Gemeinde in Jerusalem davon erfuhr, schickte sie Barnabas nach Antiochia. 23Der kam in die Stadt und erkannte voller Freude, was Gott in seiner Gnade getan hatte. Barnabas ermutigte die Gläubigen, fest und entschlossen in ihrem Glauben an den Herrn zu bleiben. 24Er war ein vorbildlicher Mann, erfüllt vom Heiligen Geist und stark im Glauben. So begannen damals viele Menschen Jesus, dem Herrn, zu vertrauen.
25Von Antiochia reiste Barnabas nach Tarsus, um Saulus aufzusuchen. 26Er traf ihn und nahm ihn dann mit nach Antiochia zurück. Dort blieben die beiden ein ganzes Jahr lang in der Gemeinde, um viele Menschen im Glauben zu unterweisen. In Antiochia wurden die Jünger zum ersten Mal »Christen« genannt.
27Zu dieser Zeit kamen Propheten aus Jerusalem nach Antiochia. 28Während des Gottesdienstes sagte einer von ihnen – er hieß Agabus – eine große Hungersnot voraus. Sie würde sich über das gesamte Reich erstrecken. So hatte es ihm der Heilige Geist gezeigt. Tatsächlich trat diese Hungersnot wenige Jahre später noch während der Regierungszeit von Kaiser Klaudius ein.11,28 Klaudius regierte 41–54 n.Chr. 29Deshalb beschloss die Gemeinde in Antiochia, ihren Brüdern und Schwestern in Judäa zu helfen. Jeder in der Gemeinde sollte so viel geben, wie er konnte, 30und das Geld wurde dann von Barnabas und Saulus den Leitern der Gemeinde in Jerusalem überbracht.
