1Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king’s heart was toward Absalom. 2And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead: 3And come to the king, and speak on this manner unto him. So Joab put the words in her mouth.
4¶ And when the woman of Tekoah spake to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and did obeisance, and said, Help, O king.14.4 Help: Heb. Save 5And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, I am indeed a widow woman, and mine husband is dead. 6And thy handmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other, and slew him.14.6 none…: Heb. no deliverer between them 7And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his brother whom he slew; and we will destroy the heir also: and so they shall quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.14.7 upon…: Heb. upon the face of the earth 8And the king said unto the woman, Go to thine house, and I will give charge concerning thee. 9And the woman of Tekoah said unto the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father’s house: and the king and his throne be guiltless. 10And the king said, Whosoever saith ought unto thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more. 11Then said she, I pray thee, let the king remember the LORD thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak. 19And the king said, Is not the hand of Joab with thee in all this? And the woman answered and said, As thy soul liveth, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from ought that my lord the king hath spoken: for thy servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thine handmaid: 20To fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.
21¶ And the king said unto Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing: go therefore, bring the young man Absalom again. 22And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king: and Joab said, To day thy servant knoweth that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath fulfilled the request of his servant.14.22 thanked: Heb. blessed14.22 his servant: or, thy servant 23So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem. 24And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. So Absalom returned to his own house, and saw not the king’s face.
25¶ But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.14.25 But…: Heb. And as Absalom there was not a beautiful man in all Israel to praise greatly 26And when he polled his head, (for it was at every year’s end that he polled it: because the hair was heavy on him, therefore he polled it:) he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels after the king’s weight. 27And unto Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar: she was a woman of a fair countenance.
28¶ So Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king’s face. 29Therefore Absalom sent for Joab, to have sent him to the king; but he would not come to him: and when he sent again the second time, he would not come. 30Therefore he said unto his servants, See, Joab’s field is near mine, and he hath barley there; go and set it on fire. And Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.14.30 near…: Heb. near my place 31Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom unto his house, and said unto him, Wherefore have thy servants set my field on fire? 32And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king’s face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me. 33So Joab came to the king, and told him: and when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: and the king kissed Absalom.
بازگشت ابشالوم به اورشليم
1وقتی يوآب فهميد كه پادشاه چقدر مشتاق ديدار ابشالوم است، 2به دنبال زنی حكيم فرستاد كه در شهر تقوع زندگی میكرد. يوآب به آن زن گفت: «خودت را به قيافهٔ زنی كه مدت طولانی است عزادار میباشد در بياور؛ لباس عزا بپوش و موهايت را شانه نكن. 3بعد پيش پادشاه برو و اين سخنان را كه به تو میگويم به او بگو.» سپس به او ياد داد چه بگويد.
4وقتی آن زن نزد پادشاه رسيد، تعظيم كرد و گفت: «ای پادشاه، به دادم برس!»
5-6پادشاه پرسيد: «چه شده است؟»
عرض كرد: «من زن بيوهای هستم. دو پسر داشتم. يک روز آن دو در صحرا با هم دعوا كردند و چون كسی نبود آنها را از هم جدا كند، يكی از ايشان به دست ديگری كشته شد. 7حال تمام قوم و خويشانم میخواهند پسر ديگرم را به آنها تسليم كنم تا او را به جرم قتل برادرش، بكشند. ولی اگر من اين كار را بكنم، ديگر كسی برايم باقی نمیماند و نسل شوهر مرحومم از روی زمين برانداخته میشود.»
8پادشاه به او گفت: «با خيال راحت به خانه برو. ترتيب كار را خواهم داد.»
9زن گفت: «ای پادشاه، تقصير به گردن من و خانوادهام باشد و پادشاه و تختش بیتقصير!»
10پادشاه فرمود: «اگر كسی به تو چيزی گفت، او را نزد من بياور. كاری میكنم كه او هرگز مزاحم تو نشود.»
11سپس آن زن به پادشاه گفت: «ای پادشاه، به خداوند، خدايتان قسم ياد كنيد كه نخواهيد گذاشت خويشاوند من انتقام خون پسرم را از پسر ديگرم بگيرد و او را بكشد.»
پادشاه پاسخ داد: «به خداوند زنده قسم، مويی از سر پسرت كم نخواهد شد!» 12زن گفت: «التماس میكنم اجازه دهيد يک چيز ديگر نيز بگويم.»
پادشاه فرمود: «بگو!»
13گفت: «چرا همين كاری را كه قول داديد برای من بكنيد، برای قوم خدا انجام نمیدهيد؟ چطور پسر مرا بخشيديد، اما پسر خودتان را كه آواره شده است نمیبخشيد؟ آيا در اين مورد مقصر نيستيد؟ 14سرانجام همهٔ ما میميريم. عمر ما مثل آب بر زمين ريخته میشود، آب كه ريخت ديگر نمیتوان آن را جمع كرد. وقتی كسی از خدا آواره میشود خدا جان او را نمیگيرد، بلكه او را به سوی خود باز میخواند. پادشاه نيز چنين كنند. 15-16البته من برای پسر خودم به اينجا آمدهام، چون میترسم او را بكشند. با خود گفتم شايد پادشاه به عرايضم توجه نمايند و ما را از دست كسی كه میخواهد ما را از آب و خاكی كه خدا به ما عطا كرده بینصيب كند، برهانند. 17با خود گفتم كه قول پادشاه، ما را آسودهخاطر خواهد كرد. شما مثل فرشتهٔ خدا هستيد و خوب را از بد تشخيص میدهيد. خداوند، خدايتان همراه شما باشد.»
18پادشاه گفت: «سؤالی از تو میكنم و تو راستش را بگو.»
عرض كرد: «ای پادشاه، گوش به فرمانم.»
19پادشاه گفت: «آيا يوآب تو را به اينجا فرستاده است؟»
زن جواب داد: «چطور میتوانم حقيقت را از شما، ای پادشاه، كتمان كنم؟ بلی، يوآب مرا فرستاد و به من ياد داد كه چه بگويم. 20اين كار را برای رفع كدورت كرد. شما مثل فرشتهٔ خدا دانا هستيد و هر چه میشود، میدانيد.»
21پس پادشاه يوآب را خواست و به او گفت: «بسيار خوب، برو و ابشالوم را بياور.»
22يوآب تعظيم كرد و گفت: «ای پادشاه، امروز فهميدم كه به من نظر لطف داريد، چون درخواست مرا اجابت كرديد. خدا شما را بركت دهد.»
23يوآب به جشور رفت و ابشالوم را با خود به اورشليم آورد. 24پادشاه گفت: «او بايد به خانهٔ خود برود و به اينجا نيايد، چون نمیخواهم رويش را ببينم.» پس ابشالوم به خانهٔ خود رفت و پادشاه را نديد.
25ابشالوم مردی خوشقيافه بود و از اين لحاظ در اسرائيل هيچكس به پای او نمیرسيد. از موی سر تا نوک پا در او عيبی نبود. 26موی سرش بسيار پرپشت بود و او سالی يک بار آن را كوتاه میكرد، زيرا بر سرش سنگينی مینمود. به مقياس شاهی، وزن آن دو كيلوگرم میشد. 27او صاحب سه پسر و يک دختر شد. دختر او تامار نام داشت و بسيار زيبا بود.
28-29ابشالوم دو سال در اورشليم ماند، ولی در اين مدت پادشاه را نديد، پس به دنبال يوآب فرستاد تا برای او وساطت كند؛ اما يوآب نيامد. ابشالوم بار ديگر به دنبال او فرستاد، ولی اين بار هم نيامد.
30بنابراين ابشالوم به خدمتكارانش گفت: «برويد و مزرعهٔ جو يوآب را كه كنار مزرعهٔ من است، آتش بزنيد.» آنها نيز چنين كردند.
31پس يوآب نزد ابشالوم آمد و گفت: «چرا خدمتكارانت مزرعهٔ مرا آتش زدند؟»
32ابشالوم جواب داد: «چون میخواهم از پادشاه بپرسی اگر نمیخواست مرا ببيند، چرا مرا از جشور به اينجا آورد؟ بهتر بود همانجا میماندم. حال ترتيبی بده تا در اين باره با پادشاه صحبت كنم. اگر مقصرم، خودش مرا بكشد.»
33هر چه ابشالوم گفته بود يوآب به عرض پادشاه رسانيد. سرانجام داوود ابشالوم را به حضور پذيرفت. ابشالوم آمده، در حضور پادشاه تعظيم كرد و داوود او را بوسيد.
