1And Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of Jezreel, to the elders, and to them that brought up Ahab’s children, saying,10.1 them…: Heb. nourishers 2Now as soon as this letter cometh to you, seeing your master’s sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fenced city also, and armour; 3Look even out the best and meetest of your master’s sons, and set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house. 4But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand? 5And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes. 6Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye be mine, and if ye will hearken unto my voice, take ye the heads of the men your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by to morrow this time. Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up.10.6 mine: Heb. for me 7And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.
8¶ And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king’s sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entering in of the gate until the morning. 9And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these? 10Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the LORD, which the LORD spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the LORD hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.10.10 by: Heb. by the hand of 11So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.10.11 kinsfolks: or, acquaintance
12¶ And he arose and departed, and came to Samaria. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them.
15¶ And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me thine hand. So they made him ride in his chariot. 17And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained unto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the LORD, which he spake to Elijah.
18¶ And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much. 19Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal. 20And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.10.20 Proclaim: Heb. Sanctify 21And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And he brought them forth vestments. 23And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the LORD, but the worshippers of Baal only. 24And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him. 25And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. 29¶ Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Beth-el, and that were in Dan. 30And the LORD said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel. 31But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.10.31 took…: Heb. observed not

耶戶剷除亞哈家

6耶戶又寫了一封信，說：「如果你們歸順我，願意聽從我，明天這個時候，帶著你們主人子孫的首級來耶斯列見我。」當時亞哈的七十個子孫都養在城中顯貴的府中。 7這些顯貴們接到信後，便殺了亞哈的七十個子孫，把他們的首級放在籃子裡，送到耶斯列的耶戶那裡。 8使者告訴耶戶：「他們將王眾子孫的首級送來了。」耶戶下令：「把首級分成兩堆，放在城門口，一直放到明天早上。」 9第二天早晨，耶戶出去站在城門口，對眾人說：「你們都沒有罪，是我背叛我主人，把他殺了。可是，是誰殺了這些人呢？ 10由此可知，耶和華對亞哈家的預言一句也沒有落空。耶和華藉祂僕人以利亞所說的一切都應驗了。」 11耶戶殺了亞哈家留在耶斯列的親屬、大臣、朋友和祭司，一個不留。
12耶戶動身去撒瑪利亞，經過牧人剪羊毛的地方時， 13遇見猶大王亞哈謝的親屬，就問：「你們是誰？」他們答道：「我們是亞哈謝的親屬，現在去問候王和太后一家。」 14耶戶下令活捉他們，他的手下便捉住他們，在剪羊毛處的井旁全部殺掉，共四十二人，一個不留。
15耶戶繼續前行，遇見前來迎接他的利甲的兒子約拿達。耶戶問候他，並說：「我對你忠誠，你對我也一樣忠誠嗎？」約拿達答道：「當然！」耶戶說：「既然如此，把手伸給我。」他伸出手來，耶戶把他拉上車， 16說：「跟我來，看我怎樣熱心為耶和華工作。」於是耶戶讓他坐在車上。 17到了撒瑪利亞，他把亞哈家在撒瑪利亞剩下的人全部殺光，一個不留，應驗了耶和華對以利亞說的話。
耶戶計殺拜巴力之人
18耶戶召集了所有的人，對他們說：「亞哈供奉巴力還不夠熱心，我耶戶要更熱心地供奉他。 19我要向巴力獻大祭，你們去把巴力的先知和祭司及所有拜巴力的人一個不漏地召來。凡不來的人休想活命。」耶戶這樣做，是想用計殺盡拜巴力的人。 20耶戶下令召開祭拜巴力的莊嚴聚會，於是他們發出通告。 21耶戶派人送信到以色列各地，凡拜巴力的人全都來了，沒有一個缺席。他們把整個巴力廟塞得滿滿的。 22耶戶吩咐掌管禮服的人拿出禮服給他們穿上， 23然後他和利甲的兒子約拿達進廟向他們宣佈說：「你們仔細察看，這裡不可有事奉耶和華的人，只允許拜巴力的人在這裡。」 24耶戶和約拿達在廟裡獻上祭物和燔祭。此前，他預先派了八十人在廟外守著，並下令：「我把這些人交在你們手中，誰放走一個，誰就要以命抵償。」 25耶戶獻完燔祭出來，便命令衛兵和將領說：「進去殺死他們，不要放走一人。」衛兵和將領進廟揮刀殺了他們，把屍首拋出去後，走入廟的內殿， 26將巴力神柱搬出去燒了。 27他們摧毀了巴力的神柱和廟，把廟當作廁所，至今未變。
28這樣，耶戶從以色列掃除了巴力。 29可是，他重蹈尼八的兒子耶羅波安的覆轍，拜伯特利和但兩地的金牛犢，使以色列人陷入罪中。 30耶和華對耶戶說：「你已經做了我視為正的事，照我的意思除掉了亞哈一家，因此你的子孫必做以色列王，直到第四代。」 31但耶戶沒有全心全意地遵守以色列的上帝耶和華的律法，卻重蹈耶羅波安的覆轍，使以色列人陷入罪中。
耶戶去世
32那時，耶和華開始削減以色列的領土。哈薛攻打以色列各處， 33侵佔了約旦河以東的土地，包括基列全境，即迦得人、呂便人和瑪拿西人住的地方，從亞嫩谷附近的亞羅珥起，直到基列和巴珊。 34耶戶其他的事及其一切所作所為和成就都記在以色列的列王史上。 35他與祖先同眠後葬在撒瑪利亞，他兒子約哈斯繼位。 36耶戶在撒瑪利亞統治以色列二十八年。
