1Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.26.1 Uzziah: or, Azariah 2He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers. 3Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. 16¶ But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense. 17And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, that were valiant men: 18And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God. 19Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar. 20And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him. 21And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.26.21 several: Heb. free
22¶ Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write. 23So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

1Todo el pueblo de Judá tomó entonces a Uzías, que tenía dieciséis años, y lo proclamó rey en lugar de su padre Amasías. 2Y fue Uzías quien, después de la muerte del rey Amasías, reconstruyó la ciudad de Elat y la reintegró a Judá.
3Uzías tenía dieciséis años cuando ascendió al trono, y reinó en Jerusalén cincuenta y dos años. Su madre era Jecolías, oriunda de Jerusalén. 4Uzías hizo lo que agrada al Señor, pues en todo siguió el buen ejemplo de su padre Amasías 5y, mientras vivió Zacarías, quien lo instruyó en el temor de Dios, se empeñó en buscar al Señor. Mientras Uzías buscó a Dios, Dios le dio prosperidad.
6Uzías marchó contra los filisteos, y destruyó los muros de Gat, Jabnia y Asdod. Además, construyó ciudades en la región de Asdod, entre los filisteos. 7Dios lo ayudó en su guerra contra los filisteos, contra los árabes que vivían en Gur Baal, y contra los meunitas. 8Los amonitas fueron tributarios de Uzías, y este llegó a tener tanto poder que su fama se difundió hasta la frontera de Egipto.
9Uzías también construyó y fortificó torres en Jerusalén, sobre las puertas de la Esquina y del Valle, y en el ángulo del muro. 10Así mismo, construyó torres en el desierto y cavó un gran número de pozos, pues tenía mucho ganado en la llanura y en la meseta. Tenía también labradores y viñadores que trabajaban en las montañas y en los valles, pues era un amante de la agricultura.
11Uzías contaba con un ejército que salía a la guerra por escuadrones, de acuerdo con el censo hecho por el cronista Jeyel y por el oficial Maseías, bajo la dirección de Jananías, funcionario del rey. 12El total de los jefes de familia era de dos mil seiscientos, todos ellos guerreros valientes. 13Bajo el mando de estos había un ejército bien entrenado, compuesto por trescientos siete mil quinientos soldados, que combatían con mucho valor para apoyar al rey en su lucha contra los enemigos. 14A ese ejército Uzías lo dotó de escudos, lanzas, cascos, corazas, arcos y hondas. 15Construyó en Jerusalén unas máquinas diseñadas por hombres ingeniosos, y las colocó en las torres y en las esquinas de la ciudad para disparar flechas y piedras de gran tamaño. Con la poderosa ayuda de Dios, Uzías llegó a ser muy poderoso y su fama se extendió hasta muy lejos.
16Sin embargo, cuando aumentó su poder, Uzías se volvió arrogante, lo cual lo llevó a la desgracia. Se rebeló contra el Señor, Dios de sus antepasados, y se atrevió a entrar en el templo del Señor para quemar incienso en el altar. 17Detrás de él entró el sumo sacerdote Azarías, junto con ochenta sacerdotes del Señor, todos ellos hombres valientes, 18quienes se le enfrentaron y le dijeron: «No te corresponde a ti quemar el incienso al Señor. Esta es función de los sacerdotes descendientes de Aarón, pues son ellos los que están consagrados para quemar el incienso. Sal ahora mismo del santuario, pues has pecado, y así Dios el Señor no va a honrarte».
19Esto enfureció a Uzías, quien tenía en la mano un incensario listo para ofrecer el incienso. Pero en ese mismo instante, allí en el templo del Señor, junto al altar del incienso y delante de los sacerdotes, la frente se le cubrió de lepra. 20Al ver que Uzías estaba leproso, el sumo sacerdote Azarías y los demás sacerdotes lo expulsaron de allí a toda prisa. Es más, él mismo se apresuró a salir, pues el Señor lo había castigado.
21El rey Uzías se quedó leproso hasta el día de su muerte. Tuvo que vivir aislado en su casa,26:21 aislado en su casa. Lit. en casa de libertad; es decir, libre de responsabilidades. y le prohibieron entrar en el templo del Señor. Su hijo Jotán quedó a cargo del palacio y del gobierno del país.
22Los demás acontecimientos del reinado de Uzías, desde el primero hasta el último, los escribió el profeta Isaías hijo de Amoz. 23Cuando Uzías murió, fue sepultado con sus antepasados en un campo cercano al panteón de los reyes, pues padecía de lepra. Y su hijo Jotán le sucedió en el trono.
