1And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly. 2Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers. 3So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness. 4But the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-jearim to the place which David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem. 5Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.1.5 he put: or, was there 6And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
7¶ In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. 8And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead. 9Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.1.9 like…: Heb. much as the dust of the earth 10Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? 11And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: 12Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
13¶ Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel. 14And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem. 15And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.1.15 made: Heb. gave 16And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.1.16 Solomon…: Heb. the going forth of the horses which was Solomon’s 17And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.1.17 means: Heb. hand
Sa-lô-môn Cầu Xin Sự Khôn Ngoan
1Sa-lô-môn, con trai Đa-vít, được vững trên ngôi nước, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của vua, ở với vua và cho vua rất cường thịnh.
2Vua triệu tập tất cả lãnh đạo của Ít-ra-ên—các cấp chỉ huy nghìn người và trăm người, các phán quan, nhà lãnh đạo trong dân, và các trưởng tộc. 3Sau đó vua hướng dẫn tất cả lên đồi cao tại Ga-ba-ôn, nơi Đền Tạm của Đức Chúa Trời. (Đây là nơi mà Môi-se, đầy tớ Chúa đã dựng trong hoang mạc.)
4Vua Đa-vít đã dời Hòm Giao Ước của Đức Chúa Trời từ Ki-ri-át Giê-a-rim về Giê-ru-sa-lem, đặt trong chiếc lều vua đã dựng tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. 5Trước Đền Tạm có bàn thờ đồng mà Bê-sa-lê, con U-ri, cháu Hu-rơ đã làm. Sa-lô-môn và toàn dân đều đến đó để cầu hỏi Chúa Hằng Hữu. 6Sa-lô-môn đến bàn thờ đồng tại Đền Tạm, dâng 1.000 lễ thiêu lên Chúa Hằng Hữu.
7Đêm ấy, Đức Chúa Trời hiện đến với Sa-lô-môn và phán: “Hãy xin điều gì con muốn? Ta sẽ cho con.”
8Sa-lô-môn thưa với Đức Chúa Trời: “Chúa đã tỏ lòng thương xót bao la đối với Đa-vít, cha con, và nay Chúa đặt con lên ngôi thay cho người. 9Thưa Chúa, xin hoàn thành lời hứa với Đa-vít, cha con, vì Chúa đã lập con làm vua dân tộc đông như bụi đất. 10Xin Chúa ban cho con khôn ngoan tri thức để cai trị toàn dân, vì ai đủ khả năng chăn dắt dân tộc vĩ đại của Chúa?”
11Đức Chúa Trời phán với Sa-lô-môn: “Vì ước nguyện của con không phải là xin giàu sang, của cải, vinh dự, sống lâu, hay sinh mạng kẻ thù, nhưng xin khôn ngoan và tri thức để cai trị toàn dân Ta, 12nên Ta sẽ ban cho con khôn ngoan và tri thức như con cầu xin, Ta cũng sẽ cho con giàu sang của cải, vinh dự đến nỗi trước con chẳng có vua nào bằng, và sau này cũng không ai sánh được với con!”
13Vậy Sa-lô-môn từ Đền Tạm, trên đồi Ga-ba-ôn, trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem, và cai trị Ít-ra-ên. 14Sa-lô-môn lập đoàn kỵ binh, gồm 1.400 chiến xa và 12.000 chiến mã. Vua để chiến xa trong các thành chứa chiến xa, và gần bên vua tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. 15Trong đời vua, vàng bạc tại Giê-ru-sa-lem nhiều như đá cuội. Và gỗ bá hương thường như gỗ sung ở miền Sô-phô-la! 16Những con ngựa của Sa-lô-môn được nhập từ Ai Cập và Si-li-si; các thương buôn của vua đã mua được từ Si-li-si với giá phải chăng. 17Xe ngựa từ Ai Cập đem về Giê-ru-sa-lem giá 6,8 ký bạc một chiếc và ngựa gần 1,7 ký bạc một con. Họ cũng xuất khẩu ngựa và xe cho các vua Hê-tít và vua A-ram.
