1And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly. 2Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers. 3So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness. 4But the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-jearim to the place which David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem. 5Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.1.5 he put: or, was there 6And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
7¶ In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. 8And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead. 9Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.1.9 like…: Heb. much as the dust of the earth 10Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? 11And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: 12Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
13¶ Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel. 14And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem. 15And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.1.15 made: Heb. gave 16And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.1.16 Solomon…: Heb. the going forth of the horses which was Solomon’s 17And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.1.17 means: Heb. hand
دعای سليمان برای كسب حكمت
(اول پادشاهان 3:1-15)
1سليمان، پسر داوود پادشاه بر تمام قلمرو اسرائيل مسلط شد زيرا خداوند، خدايش با او بود و به او قدرت بخشيده بود. 2-3او تمام فرماندهان سپاه، مقامات مملكتی و ساير رهبران اسرائيل را احضار كرد تا همراه او به جبعون بروند. در آنجا ايشان را به خيمهٔ عبادت قديمی1:2و3 موسی حدود ۵۰۰ سال قبل از سلطنت سليمان، خيمهٔ عبادت را بر پا داشته بود. كه بوسيلهٔ موسی خدمتگزار خدا بر پا شده بود، برد. موسی اين خيمه را هنگامی ساخت كه بنی‌اسرائيل هنوز در بيابان سرگردان بودند. 4(بعد داوود پادشاه، خيمه‌ای ديگر در اورشليم بر پا نمود و صندوق عهد خداوند را از قريت يعاريم به آنجا انتقال داد.) 5-6قربانگاه مفرغی كه بصل‌ئيل (پسر اوری، نوهٔ حور) ساخته بود، هنوز جلو خيمهٔ عبادت قرار داشت. سليمان و كسانی كه دعوت شده بودند، جلو قربانگاه جمع شده، خداوند را عبادت كردند و سليمان برای خداوند هزار قربانی سوختنی تقديم كرد.
7آن شب خدا به سليمان ظاهر شد و به او فرمود: «هر چه می‌خواهی از من درخواست كن تا به تو بدهم.»
8سليمان عرض كرد: «ای خدا، تو به پدرم داوود بسيار محبت نشان دادی و حالا هم تاج و تخت او را به من بخشيده‌ای 9و مرا پادشاه قومی ساخته‌ای كه مثل غبار زمين بی‌شمارند. پس به وعده‌ای كه به پدرم داوود دادی وفا كن 10و به من حكمت و معرفت ببخش تا بتوانم اين مردم را اداره كنم، زيرا كيست كه بتواند اين قوم عظيم تو را اداره كند؟»
11خداوند فرمود: «حال كه بزرگترين آرزوی تو اين است، و تو خواهان ثروت و افتخار و طول عمر نبودی و مرگ دشمنانت را از من نخواستی، بلكه خواستی به تو حكمت و بصيرت ببخشم تا قوم مرا رهبری و اداره كنی، 12پس من هم، حكمت و بصيرتی را كه درخواست نمودی به تو می‌دهم. در ضمن چنان ثروت و افتخاری به تو می‌بخشم كه هيچ پادشاهی تا به حال آن را نداشته و بعد از اين نيز نخواهد داشت.» 13بنابراين سليمان از خيمهٔ عبادت بالای تپهٔ جبعون به زير آمد و به اورشليم بازگشت تا بر قوم اسرائيل فرمانروايی كند.
ثروت و شهرت سليمان
(اول پادشاهان 10:26-29 و دوم تواريخ 9:25-28)
14سليمان هزار و چهارصد عرابه و دوازده هزار اسب داشت كه برخی را در پايتخت و بقيه را در شهرهای ديگر نگه می‌داشت. 15در روزگار سليمان، نقره و طلا در اورشليم مثل ريگ بيابان فراوان بود! و الوارهای گرانبهای سرو، مانند چوب معمولی مصرف می‌شد! 16اسبهای سليمان را از مصر و قيليقيه می‌آوردند و تاجران سليمان همه را يكجا به قيمتهای عمده می‌خريدند. 17قيمت يک عرابهٔ مصری ششصد مثقال نقره و قيمت يک اسب، صد و پنجاه مثقال نقره بود. آنها همچنين اسبهای اضافی را به پادشاهان حيتی و سوری می‌فروختند.
