1And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben-ezer unto Ashdod. 2When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
3¶ And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. 4And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.5.4 the stump…: or, the fishy part 5Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.
6But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof. 7And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god. 8They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither. 9And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.
10¶ Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.5.10 us, to…: Heb. me to slay me and my 11So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.5.11 us not…: Heb. me not, and my 12And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
Ang Kahon sang Kasugtanan sang Dios didto sa mga Filistinhon
1Sang naagaw sang mga Filistinhon ang Kahon sang Dios, gindala nila ini halin sa Ebenezer pakadto sa Ashdod. 2Dayon gindala nila ini sa templo ni Dagon nga ila dios-dios kag ginbutang sa iya tupad. 3Aga pa gid sang madason nga adlaw, nakita sang mga taga-Ashdod ang imahen ni Dagon nga nagahapa sa atubangan sang Kahon sang Ginoo. Ginpatindog nila ini kag ginbalik sa iya nahamtangan. 4Pero sang madason nga aga, nakita naman nila ini nga nagahapa sa atubangan sang Kahon sang Ginoo. Ang iya ulo kag duha ka kamot nautod, kag ara ini sa may puwertahan dampi; ang iya lang lawas ang nabilin. 5Amo gani nga hasta subong ang mga pari ni Dagon kag ang mga nagasulod sa iya templo didto sa Ashdod wala nagatapak sa puwertahan dampi.
6Ginsilutan sang Ginoo ang mga taga-Ashdod sing puwerte gid kag ang mga lugar sa palibot sini. Ginpatubuan sila sang Ginoo sang tumor sa pagpaantos sa ila. 7Sang makita sang mga taga-Ashdod ang mga nagakalatabo, nagsiling sila, “Indi dapat nga magpabilin diri sa aton ang Kahon sang Dios sang Israel tungod nga ginasilutan niya kita kag si Dagon nga aton dios.” 8Gani ginpatawag nila ang tanan nga pangulo sang mga Filistinhon kag ginpamangkot, “Ano ang himuon naton sa Kahon sang Dios sang Israel?” Nagsabat sila, “Dal-on ini sa Gat.” Gani gindala nila sa Gat ang Kahon sang Dios sang Israel.
9Pero sang nag-abot na ini didto, ginsilutan man sang Ginoo ang katawhan sang sadto nga banwa. Nagsinala-sala gid sila kay ginpatubuan man sila sang Ginoo sang mga tumor, bata man ukon tigulang. 10Gani ginpadala nila sa Ekron ang Kahon sang Dios. Kag samtang ginapasulod ini sa Ekron, nagreklamo ang katawhan sang Ekron. Siling nila, “Gindala nila diri ang Kahon sang Dios sang Israel agod patyon kita tanan.” 11Gani ginpatawag nila ang tanan nga pangulo sang mga Filistinhon kag ginsilingan, “Ibalik ninyo ang Kahon sang Dios sang Israel sa iya lugar, kay kon indi, magakalamatay kami tanan.” Amo ina ang ila ginsiling tungod kay nagsugod na ang puwerte nga pagsilot sang Dios sa ila banwa. Nagsinala-sala sila kay madamo ang nagkalamatay. 12Ang mga wala nagkalamatay gintubuan sang tumor, kag ang ila pagpangayo sang bulig nakaabot sa langit.
