8¶ And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.27.8 Gezrites: or, Gerzites 9And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish. 10And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? ペリシテ人の地に住むダビデ
1しかし、ダビデは心中、こう考えていました。「いつか、王は私を捕らえようとやって来るに違いない。そうだ、ペリシテ人の中にまぎれ込んで試してみよう。そして王が追跡をあきらめてくれれば、何も心配はなくなる。」
2-3ダビデは六百人の部下とその家族を引き連れ、ガテの王アキシュを頼って、ガテに移り住みました。ダビデの二人の妻、イズレエル人アヒノアムと、ナバルの未亡人であったカルメル人アビガイルもいっしょでした。 4ダビデがガテに逃げたという知らせを聞くと、サウルはダビデの追跡をやめました。
5ある日のこと、ダビデはアキシュ王に願い出ました。「もしお許しいただけるなら、このような都にではなく、もっと田舎の町に住まわせていただきたいのですが。」
6そこでアキシュは、ツィケラグをダビデに与えました。それでこの町は、今もユダの王のものとなっています。 7ダビデがペリシテ人の中で暮らしたのは、一年四か月でした。 8その間、ダビデとその部下はゲシュル人、ゲゼル人、アマレク人を襲いました。その人々は昔から、エジプトに通じる道沿いの、シュルの近くに住んでいたのです。 9ダビデが襲った村々には、生存者は一人もいませんでした。彼らは、羊、牛、ろば、らくだ、それに着物などを奪って引き揚げました。 10アキシュが、「今日は、どこを襲ったのか」と尋ねると、ダビデは、ユダの南部とか、エラフメエルの人々やケニ人を相手に戦ったなどと答えていました。
11とにかく、生き残ってガテまで来る者は一人もなかったわけですから、実際にどこを襲ったのか、その真相は明らかになりようがなかったのです。ペリシテ人の中にまぎれ込んで暮らしている間、ダビデはこのようなことをくり返していました。 12アキシュはダビデを信用し、今はもうイスラエル人はダビデをひどく憎んでいるに違いない、と思い込んでいました。そして、「ダビデはいつまでもここにいて、私に仕えてくれるだろう」と思ったのです。
