1Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite: 2And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. 3And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. 9¶ So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. 19¶ And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her. 20Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.1.20 when…: Heb. in revolution of days1.20 Samuel: that is, Asked of God 21And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow. 22But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever. 23And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
24¶ And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young. 25And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli. 26And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD. 27For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him: 28Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. 1May usa ka tawong kaliwat ni Zuf nga ang ngalan si Elkana. Nagpuyo siya sa Rama didto sa kabungtoran sa Efraim. Anak siya ni Jeroham nga anak ni Elihu. Si Elihu anak ni Tohu nga anak ni Zuf, nga gikan sa tribo ni Efraim. 2Si Elkana adunay duha ka asawa nga mao sila si Hana ug si Penina. May mga anak si Penina apan si Hana wala.
3Matag tuig, moadto si Elkana ug ang iyang pamilya sa Shilo aron sa pagsimba ug paghalad ngadto sa Ginoo nga Makagagahom. Niadtong panahona ang duha ka anak ni Eli nga si Hofni ug si Finehas mao ang mga pari sa Ginoo didto sa Shilo. 4Sa matag higayon nga maghalad si Elkana, bahinon niya ang iyang ihalad ngadto kang Penina ug sa mga anak niini. 5Apan ang kang Hana doblehon niya kay gihigugma niya kini bisan pa ug gihimo kini sa Ginoo nga baog. 6Ug tungod kay dili siya makaanak, kanunay siyang palaguton ug pakaulawan ni Penina nga iyang karibal. 7Mao kini ang kanunayng mahitabo matag tuig. Matag adto ni Hana sa balay sa Ginoo palaguton siya ni Penina hangtod nga mohilak na lang siya ug dili na mokaon. 8Unya moingon si Elkana kaniya, “Nganong naghilak ka man? Nganong dili ka man mokaon? Nganong nagasubo ka? Dili ba diay ako mas bililhon pa alang kanimo kay sa napulo ka mga anak?”
9-10Usa ka higayon, pagkahuman nilag pangaon didto sa balay sa Ginoo sa Shilo, mitindog si Hana ug nagaampo nga naghilak, kay labihan gayod ang kaguol nga iyang gibati. Nagalingkod niadto ang pari nga si Eli duol sa pultahan sa balay1:9-10 balay: sa Hebreo, templo. sa Ginoo. 11Nanaad si Hana sa Ginoo nga nagaingon, “O Ginoo nga Makagagahom, tan-awa ang akong pag-antos. Hinumdomi ako nga imong sulugoon ug ayaw gayod ako kalimti. Kon hatagan mo akog anak nga lalaki, ihatag ko siya pagbalik kanimo aron mag-alagad siya kanimo sa tibuok niyang kinabuhi, ug dili ko paputlan ang iyang buhok.1:11 dili ko paputlan… buhok: timailhan kini nga mag-alagad na si Samuel sa Ginoo sa hingpit.”
12-13Samtang nagpadayon siya sa pag-ampo ngadto sa Ginoo, nakita ni Eli nga nagkibot-kibot ang iyang baba apan dili madungog ang iyang tingog; abi ni Eli nga hubog kini. 14Busa miingon si Eli kaniya, “Hangtod kanus-a pa man ka maghubog-hubog? Undang na niana!” 15Mitubag si Hana, “Sir, dili ako hubog, ug wala ako makainom ug bisan unsang matang sa bino. Gipahungaw ko lang ngadto sa Ginoo ang kasakit nga akong gibati. 16Ayaw akog isipa nga usa ka daotang babaye. Nagaampo ako dinhi tungod sa akong hilabihang kaguol.” 17Mitubag si Eli, “Lakaw ug ayaw na ug kaguol. Hinaut nga ang Dios sa Israel mohatag sa imong gipangayo kaniya.” 18Miingon si Hana, “Sir, salamat sa imong kaayo kanako.” Unya milakaw siya, ug mikaon ug nawala na ang kasubo sa iyang panagway.
19Pagkabuntag, sayo kaayong mibangon si Elkana ug ang iyang pamilya ug misimba sila sa Ginoo. Unya mipauli sila sa ilang balay sa Rama. Midulog si Elkana kang Hana, ug gitubag sa Ginoo ang pag-ampo ni Hana nga hatagan siyag anak. 20Ug wala madugay nagmabdos siya, ug nanganak ug usa ka batang lalaki. Ginganlan niya kinig Samuel,1:20 Samuel: Posible nga ang buot ipasabot niini sa Hebreo, gipamatian sa Dios. kay miingon siya, “Pinangayo ko siya sa Ginoo.”
Gihalad ni Hana si Samuel
21Unya, miabot na usab ang panahon nga si Elkana ug ang iyang tibuok pamilya mohalad ngadto sa Ginoo sumala sa naandan nilang himuon matag tuig. Mao usab kini ang panahon nga mohalad siya aron sa pagtuman sa iyang panaad sa Ginoo. 22Apan si Hana wala mouban. Miingon siya ngadto sa iyang bana, “Unya ra ko moadto human ko malutas ang bata ug dad-on ko siya sa balay sa Ginoo aron ihalad, ug didto na siya mopuyo sa tibuok niyang kinabuhi.” 23Mitubag si Elkana kaniya, “Himoa kon unsay maayo alang kanimo. Pabilin lang dinhi hangtod nga malutas mo na siya. Ug hinaut nga tabangan ka sa Ginoo sa pagtuman sa imong panaad ngadto kaniya.” Busa nagpabilin si Hana ug giatiman niya ang iyang anak.
24Human niya malutas ang bata, gidala niya kini sa balay sa Ginoo didto sa Shilo. Nagdala usab siyag toriyong baka nga nagaedad ug tulo ka tuig, napulo ka kilo nga harina, ug bino nga gisulod ug sudlanan nga panit. 25Human nila maihaw ang baka gidala nila si Samuel ngadto kang Eli. 26Miingon si Hana kang Eli, “Kon mahinumdoman mo pa, sir, ako kadtong babaye nga nagtindog dinhi kaniadto nga nagaampo sa Ginoo. 27Gipangayo ko kining bataa gikan sa Ginoo ug gihatag niya ang akong gipangayo. 28Busa karon ihalad ko siya ngadto sa Ginoo. Moalagad siya sa Ginoo sa tibuok niyang kinabuhi.” Unya gisimba nila1:28 nila: o, niya. didto ang Ginoo.
