1And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do, 2That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon. 3And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually. 4And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments: 5Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel. 6But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: 7Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people: 8And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house? 9And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil.
10¶ And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, 11(Now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee. 12And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.9.12 pleased…: Heb. were not right in his eyes 13And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.9.13 Cabul: that is, displeasing, or, dirty 14And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold.
15¶ And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer. 16For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present unto his daughter, Solomon’s wife. 17And Solomon built Gezer, and Beth-horon the nether, 18And Baalath, and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land, 19And all the cities of store that Solomon had, and cities for his chariots, and cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.9.19 that which…: Heb. the desire of Solomon which he desired 20And all the people that were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, which were not of the children of Israel, 21Their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon levy a tribute of bondservice unto this day. 22But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no bondmen: but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots, and his horsemen. 23These were the chief of the officers that were over Solomon’s work, five hundred and fifty, which bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.
24¶ But Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which Solomon had built for her: then did he build Millo.
25¶ And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar which he built unto the LORD, and he burnt incense upon the altar that was before the LORD. So he finished the house.9.25 upon the altar that: Heb. upon it, etc
26¶ And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion-geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red sea, in the land of Edom.9.26 shore: Heb. lip 27And Hiram sent in the navy his servants, shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon. 28And they came to Ophir, and fetched from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.

“เราได้ยินคำอธิษฐานและคำวิงวอนของเจ้าต่อเราแล้ว เราได้ชำระวิหารที่เจ้าสร้างขึ้นนี้ให้บริสุทธิ์ โดยสถาปนานามของเราไว้ที่นั่นชั่วนิรันดร์ ตาและใจของเราจะอยู่ที่นั่นเสมอไป
4“ส่วนเจ้า หากเจ้าดำเนินอยู่ต่อหน้าเราด้วยใจซื่อสัตย์สุจริตและชอบธรรมเหมือนอย่างดาวิดราชบิดาของเจ้า ทำตามคำบัญชาทั้งสิ้นของเรา และรักษากฎหมายกับบทบัญญัติของเรา 5เราก็จะสถาปนาราชบัลลังก์ของเจ้าเหนืออิสราเอลตลอดไปตามที่เราได้สัญญาไว้กับดาวิดราชบิดาของเจ้าว่า ‘เจ้าจะไม่ขาดคนครองบัลลังก์อิสราเอลเลย’
6“แต่หากเจ้าหรือลูกหลานของเจ้าละทิ้งเรา ไม่ได้ปฏิบัติตามคำบัญชาและกฎหมายที่เราได้ให้แก่เจ้า9:6 ภาษาฮีบรูเป็นพหูพจน์ทั้งสามครั้งในข้อนี้ หันไปปรนนิบัตินมัสการพระอื่นๆ 7เราก็จะตัดอิสราเอลออกจากดินแดนซึ่งเราได้ยกให้เขา เราจะทิ้งวิหารแห่งนี้ซึ่งเราได้ชำระให้บริสุทธิ์เพื่อนามของเรา อิสราเอลจะกลายเป็นที่เย้ยหยันและคำเปรียบเปรยในหมู่ประชาชาติ 8ถึงแม้ว่าบัดนี้วิหารจะตั้งเด่นตระหง่าน คนทั้งปวงที่ผ่านไปมาก็จะตกตะลึงและจะเยาะเย้ยว่า ‘ทำไมหนอองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจึงทรงกระทำต่อวิหารและดินแดนนี้ถึงเพียงนี้?’ 9ผู้คนจะตอบว่า ‘เพราะพวกเขาได้ละทิ้งพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกเขา ผู้ทรงนำบรรพบุรุษของพวกเขาออกจากอียิปต์ หันไปฝักใฝ่ปรนนิบัตินมัสการพระอื่นๆ แทน ดังนั้นองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจึงทรงนำเหตุร้ายทั้งหมดนี้มาสู่พวกเขา’ ”

10ในตอนปลายของช่วงยี่สิบปีที่โซโลมอนทรงก่อสร้างพระวิหารขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าและพระราชวังของพระองค์เอง 11กษัตริย์โซโลมอนทรงมอบเมืองยี่สิบแห่งในกาลิลีให้กษัตริย์ฮีรามแห่งไทระเป็นค่าตอบแทนสำหรับไม้สนซีดาร์ ไม้สนอื่นๆ และทองคำซึ่งกษัตริย์โซโลมอนทรงประสงค์ 12แต่เมื่อฮีรามเสด็จจากไทระมาทอดพระเนตรเมืองเหล่านี้ที่โซโลมอนมอบให้ก็ไม่พอพระทัยเลย 13ฮีรามตรัสว่า “น้องเอ๋ย เอาเมืองอะไรมายกให้พี่กันนี่” เมืองเหล่านั้นจึงได้ชื่อว่าดินแดนคาบูล9:13 คำว่าคาบูลมีเสียงคล้ายคำภาษาฮีบรูที่มีความหมายว่าไร้ค่า มาจนทุกวันนี้ 14ฮีรามได้ส่งทองคำมาให้โซโลมอนถึงประมาณ 4 ตัน9:14 ภาษาฮีบรูว่า120 ตะลันต์
15โซโลมอนทรงเกณฑ์แรงงานโยธามาก่อสร้างพระวิหารขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระราชวัง ป้อมมิลโล9:15 หรือแนวเนินดินด้านตะวันออกเช่นเดียวกับข้อ 24 กำแพงกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม เมืองฮาโซร์ เมกิดโด และเกเซอร์ 16(ฟาโรห์กษัตริย์แห่งอียิปต์ทรงโจมตีและเข้ายึดเกเซอร์แล้วเผาทิ้ง ประหารชาวคานาอันผู้อาศัยอยู่ในเมือง ต่อมาได้ประทานเมืองนี้เป็นสินสมรสแก่ราชธิดาซึ่งเป็นมเหสีของโซโลมอน 17และโซโลมอนทรงซ่อมแซมเมืองเกเซอร์) ทรงสร้างเบธโฮโรนล่าง 18บาอาลัทและทัดโมร์9:18 คำภาษาฮีบรูอาจอ่านว่าทามาร์ก็ได้ในถิ่นกันดารในดินแดนยูดาห์ 19ทั้งยังทรงสร้างเมืองต่างๆ เพื่อเป็นคลังเสบียงของพระองค์ และสร้างเมืองสำหรับรถม้าศึกและม้า9:19 หรือพลรบ พระองค์ทรงสร้างทุกๆ สิ่งที่ทรงประสงค์ในเยรูซาเล็ม เลบานอน และที่ต่างๆทั่วอาณาเขตที่พระองค์ทรงปกครอง
20ส่วนบรรดาคนที่เหลืออยู่ที่เป็นชาวฮิตไทต์ ชาวอาโมไรต์ ชาวเปริสซี ชาวฮีไวต์ และชาวเยบุส (คนเหล่านี้ไม่ใช่ชาวอิสราเอล) 21คือลูกหลานที่เหลืออยู่ของคนเหล่านี้ซึ่งชนอิสราเอลไม่สามารถทำลายล้าง9:21 คำนี้ในภาษาฮีบรูหมายถึง สิ่งของหรือบุคคลที่ถวายแด่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าแล้วไม่อาจเรียกคืนได้ มักจะต้องทำลายให้หมดสิ้นไปให้หมดสิ้นได้ โซโลมอนทรงเกณฑ์คนเหล่านี้มาเป็นแรงงานทาสจนถึงทุกวันนี้ 22แต่โซโลมอนไม่ได้ทรงเกณฑ์ให้พลเมืองอิสราเอลคนใดเป็นทาส แต่ให้เป็นพลรบ ข้าราชการ เจ้าหน้าที่ นายทัพ ผู้บัญชาการรถรบ และพลรถรบ 23และมีเจ้าหน้าที่ 550 คน เป็นผู้ควบคุมดูแลแรงงานโยธาในโครงการต่างๆ ของโซโลมอน
24หลังจากราชธิดาของฟาโรห์เสด็จจากเมืองดาวิดมายังพระราชวังที่โซโลมอนทรงสร้างให้ โซโลมอนก็ทรงสร้างป้อมมิลโล
25โซโลมอนทรงถวายเครื่องเผาบูชา และเครื่องสันติบูชาปีละสามครั้ง บนแท่นซึ่งทรงสร้างขึ้นถวายแด่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า และเผาเครื่องหอมต่อหน้าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าด้วย ก็เป็นอันเรียบร้อยตามภาระหน้าที่ซึ่งมีต่อพระวิหาร
26กษัตริย์โซโลมอนยังได้ทรงสร้างกองเรือขึ้นที่เอซีโอนเกเบอร์ ซึ่งใกล้เอลัทในเอโดม บนชายฝั่งทะเลแดง9:26 คือ ทะเลต้นกกด้วย 27และกษัตริย์ฮีรามประทานกะลาสีผู้ช่ำชองให้ร่วมทำงานในกองเรือกับคนของโซโลมอน 28พวกเขาเดินเรือไปที่เมืองโอฟีร์ แล้วนำทองคำกลับมาถวายกษัตริย์โซโลมอนหนักถึงประมาณ 14.5 ตัน9:28 ภาษาฮีบรูว่า420 ตะลันต์
