12¶ Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. 13I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever. 14And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;) 15And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying, 16Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel. 17And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel. 18And the LORD said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart. 19Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name. 20And the LORD hath performed his word that he spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel. 21And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

33¶ When thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication unto thee in this house:8.33 in: or, toward 34Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto their fathers.
35¶ When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them: 36Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.
37¶ If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, blasting, mildew, locust, or if there be caterpiller; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be;8.37 cities: or, jurisdiction 38What prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house: 39Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;) 40That they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers. 41Moreover concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of a far country for thy name’s sake; 42(For they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched out arm;) when he shall come and pray toward this house; 43Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name.8.43 this…: Heb. thy name is called upon this house

62¶ And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the LORD. 63And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD. 64The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings. 65And at that time Solomon held a feast, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before the LORD our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days. 66On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.8.66 blessed: or, thanked
Die Einweihung des Tempels
(2. Chronik 5,2–6,2)
1Salomo rief die führenden Männer von Israel, die Oberhäupter aller Stämme und Sippen, zu sich nach Jerusalem. Sie sollten dabei sein, wenn die Bundeslade des Herrn aus der »Stadt Davids«, dem Stadtteil Jerusalems auf dem Berg Zion, zum Tempel gebracht wurde. 2Und so kamen im Monat Etanim, dem 7. Monat des Jahres, alle männlichen Israeliten in Jerusalem zusammen. In diesem Monat wurde auch das Laubhüttenfest gefeiert.
3Als alle versammelt waren, hoben die Priester die Bundeslade hoch 4und trugen sie hinauf zum Tempel. Zusammen mit den Leviten brachten sie auch das heilige Zelt hinauf, mit all seinen geweihten Gegenständen. 5König Salomo und die ganze Gemeinschaft der Israeliten, die zu diesem Fest gekommen waren, hatten sich bei der Bundeslade versammelt. Sie opferten so viele Schafe und Rinder, dass man sie nicht mehr zählen konnte.
6Die Priester brachten die Bundeslade an den vorgesehenen Platz in den hinteren Raum des Tempels. Dort im Allerheiligsten stellten sie die Bundeslade unter die beiden Keruben. 7Deren ausgebreitete Flügel beschirmten nun die Bundeslade samt ihren Tragstangen. 8Die beiden Stangen waren so lang, dass man sie vom Heiligtum aus sehen konnte, wenn man direkt vor dem Allerheiligsten stand. Doch vom Vorhof aus sah man sie nicht. Noch heute befindet sich die Bundeslade an diesem Ort. 9Damals lagen nur die beiden Steintafeln darin, die Mose am Berg Horeb hineingelegt hatte, als der Herr mit den Israeliten nach dem Auszug aus Ägypten einen Bund schloss.
10Als die Priester den Tempel wieder verließen, kam eine Wolke auf ihn herab. 11Die Herrlichkeit des Herrn erfüllte das ganze Haus, so dass die Priester es nicht mehr betreten konnten, um ihren Dienst darin zu verrichten. 12Salomo betete: »Du, Herr, hast gesagt, dass du im Dunkel einer Wolke wohnst. 13Nun habe ich dieses prachtvolle Haus für dich gebaut. Möge es ein Ort sein, an dem du dich für alle Zeiten niederlassen wirst.«
14Nach diesem Gebet wandte sich der König zu den Israeliten um, die sich vor dem Tempel zusammengefunden hatten. Er segnete sie und sagte:
15»Ich preise den Herrn, den Gott Israels! Nun hat er das Versprechen eingelöst, das er meinem Vater David gab. 16Eines Tages sagte Gott zu ihm: ›Seit ich mein Volk aus Ägypten in dieses Land geführt habe, habe ich in keinem der Stämme Israels eine Stadt ausgewählt, damit man dort einen Tempel für mich baut. Aber ich habe dich, David, zum König über mein Volk Israel bestimmt.‹
17Mein Vater David hatte schon lange einen großen Wunsch: Er wollte dem Herrn, dem Gott Israels, einen Tempel bauen. 18Doch der Herr sagte zu ihm: ›Ich freue mich zwar, dass du ein Haus für mich bauen möchtest. 19Aber nicht du, David, sollst es bauen, sondern erst dein Sohn.‹
20Der Herr hat Wort gehalten: Ich bin als Nachfolger meines Vaters David König von Israel geworden, genau wie der Herr es vorausgesagt hat. Und nun habe ich auch den Tempel für den Herrn, den Gott Israels, gebaut 21und darin einen Raum für die Bundeslade eingerichtet. In dieser Lade liegen die beiden Gesetzestafeln. Sie sind die Wahrzeichen des Bundes, den der Herr mit unseren Vorfahren schloss, als er sie aus Ägypten führte.«
Salomos Gebet zur Einweihung des Tempels
(2. Chronik 6,12‒42)
22Dann trat Salomo vor den Augen der versammelten Israeliten an den Altar des Herrn, erhob seine Hände zum Himmel 23und betete:
»Herr, du Gott Israels! Es gibt keinen Gott wie dich – weder im Himmel noch auf der Erde. Du hältst den Bund, den du mit deinem Volk geschlossen hast, und erweist allen deine Liebe, die dir dienen und von ganzem Herzen mit dir leben. 24Und so hast du auch deine Zusage eingehalten, die du meinem Vater David gegeben hast. Was du ihm damals versprachst, hast du nun in die Tat umgesetzt, wie wir alle es heute sehen. 25Herr, du Gott Israels, ich bitte dich: Halte auch das andere Versprechen, das du meinem Vater David gegeben hast. Du sagtest zu ihm: ›Immer wird einer deiner Nachkommen König über Israel sein, solange sie mir dienen, wie du mir gedient hast.‹ 26Ja, du Gott Israels, bitte erfülle alles, was du meinem Vater David, deinem Diener, versprochen hast!
27Doch wirst du, Gott, wirklich auf der Erde wohnen? Ist nicht sogar der weite Himmel noch zu klein, um dich zu fassen, geschweige denn dieses Haus, das ich gebaut habe? 28Trotzdem bitte ich dich, Herr, mein Gott: Höre mein Rufen und weise meine Bitten nicht zurück! Erhöre das Gebet, das ich heute in aller Demut an dich richte! 29Bitte, wache Tag und Nacht über dieses Haus! Es ist ja der Ort, von dem du selbst gesagt hast: ›Hier will ich wohnen.‹ Darum erhöre das Gebet, das ich, dein ergebener Diener, an diesem Ort an dich richte. 30Nimm meine Gebete an und auch die deines Volkes, wenn wir zum Tempel gewandt mit dir reden. Hör unser Rufen im Himmel, dort, wo du thronst, und vergib uns!
31Wenn jemand beschuldigt wird, einem anderen etwas angetan zu haben, und er hier vor deinem Altar schwören muss, dass er unschuldig ist, 32dann höre du im Himmel, was er sagt, und sorge für Recht: Entlarve und bestrafe ihn, wenn er schuldig ist; wenn er aber unschuldig ist, verschaffe ihm Gerechtigkeit!
33-34Wenn die Israeliten von Feinden besiegt werden, weil sie gegen dich gesündigt haben, und sie dann ihre Schuld einsehen und dich wieder als ihren Gott loben, so höre sie im Himmel! Vergib deinem Volk Israel die Schuld, wenn sie hier im Tempel zu dir beten und dich um Hilfe anflehen! Bring sie wieder zurück in das Land, das du einst ihren Vorfahren geschenkt hast!
35-36Wenn es einmal lange Zeit nicht regnet, weil sie gegen dich gesündigt haben, und sie dann zu diesem Tempel gewandt beten und dich wieder als ihren Gott loben, so höre sie im Himmel! Wenn sie von ihren falschen Wegen umkehren, weil du sie bestraft und zur Einsicht gebracht hast, dann vergib deinem Volk und seinen Königen ihre Schuld! Denn du zeigst ihnen, wie sie ein Leben führen können, das dir gefällt. Lass es wieder regnen auf das Land, das du deinem Volk als bleibenden Besitz gegeben hast!
37Wenn im Land Hungersnot herrscht oder die Pest wütet, wenn das Getreide durch Glutwind, Pilzbefall oder Ungeziefer vernichtet wird, wenn Feinde kommen und israelitische Städte belagern – wenn also das Land von irgendeinem Unglück oder einer Seuche heimgesucht wird –, 38-39dann höre auf jedes Gebet, das an dich gerichtet wird, sei es von einzelnen Menschen oder vom ganzen Volk! Erhöre im Himmel, wo du thronst, die Bitten aller, die dich in ihrer Not suchen und die Hände flehend zu diesem Tempel hin ausstrecken. Gib jedem, was er verdient, denn du kennst sein Herz! Vergib ihm und handle so mit ihm, wie es seinen Taten entspricht! Denn du allein kennst alle Menschen durch und durch. 40Darum sollen sie dich als ihren Gott achten und ehren, solange sie in dem Land leben, das du unseren Vorfahren gegeben hast.
41Wenn Ausländer, die nicht zu deinem Volk Israel gehören, deinetwegen aus fernen Ländern hierherkommen, 42weil sie von deinem Ruhm und deinen mächtigen Taten gehört haben, 43dann erhöre auf deinem Thron im Himmel auch ihre Gebete, die sie vor diesem Tempel sprechen! Erfülle die Bitten dieser Menschen, damit alle Völker auf der Erde dich als den wahren Gott erkennen! Sie sollen dich achten und ehren, wie dein Volk Israel es tut, und sollen erkennen, dass du in diesem Tempel wohnst, den ich gebaut habe.
44Wenn die Israeliten Krieg führen und auf deinen Befehl gegen ihre Feinde ausziehen, wenn sie dann zu der Stadt blicken, die du erwählt hast, und zu dem Tempel, den ich für dich gebaut habe, 45dann höre im Himmel ihr Flehen und verhilf ihnen zum Recht!
46Wenn sie sich aber von dir abwenden – es gibt ja keinen Menschen, der nicht sündigt – und du zornig wirst und sie an ihre Feinde auslieferst, die sie als Gefangene in ihr Land verschleppen, sei es fern oder nah, 47-49dann höre sie doch im Himmel, wo du wohnst, wenn sie dort in der Fremde ihre Schuld bereuen und zu dir umkehren! Wenn sie dann zu dir um Hilfe flehen und dir bekennen: ›Wir haben Schuld auf uns geladen und gegen dich gesündigt, als wir dir den Rücken kehrten‹, dann erhöre ihr Flehen, wenn sie sich wieder von ganzem Herzen dir zuwenden! Hilf ihnen, wenn sie im Gebiet ihrer Feinde zu dir beten und zu dem Land blicken, das du ihren Vorfahren gegeben hast, zu der Stadt, die du für dich erwählt hast, und zu dem Tempel, den ich für dich gebaut habe. 50Vergib deinem Volk alles, was sie dir angetan haben, auch ihre Auflehnung gegen dich! Lass ihre Unterdrücker Erbarmen mit ihnen haben! 51Denn trotz allem sind sie noch dein Volk, dein Eigentum, das du aus Ägypten herausgeholt hast wie aus dem Feuer eines Schmelzofens.
52Bitte, verschließ deine Ohren nicht vor meinem Flehen und vor den Gebeten deines Volkes Israel! Erhöre uns, wann immer wir zu dir um Hilfe rufen! 53Denn du, Herr, hast Israel aus allen anderen Völkern der Erde zu deinem Volk erwählt. Dies hast du durch deinen Diener Mose schon unseren Vorfahren versprochen, als du sie aus Ägypten herausführtest, Herr, du großer Gott.«
Schlussgebet und Segen
54Als Salomo sein Gebet beendet hatte, stand er wieder auf. Er war zum Beten vor dem Altar des Herrn auf die Knie gefallen und hatte die Hände flehend zum Himmel erhoben. 55Nun trat er vor die versammelten Israeliten und segnete sie. Mit lauter Stimme rief er der Versammlung zu:
56»Lasst uns den Herrn preisen! Denn er hat sein Versprechen gehalten und seinem Volk Israel eine Heimat gegeben, in der es in Ruhe und Frieden leben kann. Was er damals unseren Vorfahren durch seinen Diener Mose sagen ließ, ist eingetroffen. Jede einzelne seiner Zusagen ist in Erfüllung gegangen. 57Der Herr, unser Gott, stehe uns bei, wie er schon unseren Vorfahren beigestanden hat! Möge er uns nie verlassen oder gar verstoßen! 58Er möge unser Herz ganz nach ihm ausrichten, damit wir seine Gebote befolgen und auf alle Weisungen und Gesetze achten, die er unseren Vorfahren gegeben hat!
59Möge der Herr, unser Gott, dieses Gebet nie mehr vergessen; ja, Tag und Nacht soll er an meine Bitten denken. Er möge mir, seinem Diener, und auch seinem Volk Israel zum Recht verhelfen und uns jeden Tag geben, was wir brauchen. 60Daran sollen alle Völker erkennen, dass der Herr Gott ist und dass es außer ihm keinen Gott gibt.
61Ihr aber, haltet dem Herrn, unserem Gott, von ganzem Herzen die Treue; lebt immer nach seinen Weisungen und befolgt seine Gebote, so wie ihr es heute tut!«
Ein Opferfest zur Einweihung des Tempels
(2. Chronik 7,4‒10)
62-63Mit einem großen Opferfest weihte der König und mit ihm ganz Israel den Tempel des Herrn ein. Salomo ließ 22.000 Rinder und 120.000 Schafe als Friedensopfer schlachten. 64Am ersten Tag des Festes wurde die Mitte des Tempelvorhofs zur Opferstätte geweiht, weil der bronzene Altar viel zu klein war für die vielen Opfer. Denn unzählige Brand- und Speiseopfer wurden dargebracht, und auch das Fett der Tiere, die man für das Opfermahl schlachtete, wurde verbrannt.
65Vierzehn Tage lang feierten König Salomo und die Israeliten: in der ersten Woche die Einweihung des Tempels und in der zweiten Woche das Laubhüttenfest. Sehr viele Israeliten nahmen daran teil. Von weit her waren sie nach Jerusalem gekommen, vom äußersten Norden des Landes aus Lebo-Hamat bis zu dem Bach, der im Süden die Grenze nach Ägypten bildet. 66Nach diesen zwei Wochen beendete Salomo das Fest. Die Israeliten jubelten ihrem König zu und zogen wieder nach Hause. Voller Freude und Dankbarkeit dachten sie an das Gute, das der Herr seinem Diener David und seinem Volk Israel erwiesen hatte.
