Dessa var ättlingar till Hur, Efratas förstfödde, Betlehems far.
5Ashchur, Tekoas far, hade två hustrur, Hela och Naara.
6Naara födde åt honom Achussam, Hefer, Temni och achashtaréerna. De var Naaras söner.
7Hela födde Seret, Sochar, Etnan, och 8Kos, som var far till Anuv och Hassoveva och stamfar till släkter som härstammade från Acharchel, Harums son.
9Jabes hade större anseende än någon av sina bröder. Hans mor gav honom namnet Jabes, ”för”, sa hon, ”jag födde honom med smärta4:9 Jabes är hebreiska för smärta..”
10Jabes ropade och bad till Israels Gud: ”Välsigna mig och utvidga mitt område! Var med mig i allt jag gör och bevara mig från olycka och smärta!” Gud hörde hans bön och gav honom vad han begärde.

Otniels söner var Hatat och Meonotaj. 14Meonotaj var far till Ofra.
Seraja var far till Joav, stamfar till Timmermansdalens släkt, för de var timmermän.
15Kalevs, Jefunnes sons söner, var Ir, Ela och Naam. Elas son hette Kenas.
16Jehallelels söner var Sif, Sifa, Tirja och Asarel.
17Esras söner var Jeter, Mered, Efer och Jalon. Mereds hustru Bitja4:17 I grundtexten endast hon. Bitja är en tolkning utifrån följande vers. födde Mirjam, Shammaj och Jishbach, Eshtemoas far. 18Hans judeiska hustru födde Jered, Gedors far, Hever, Sokos far och Jekutiel, Sanoachs far. Dessa var söner till faraos dotter Bitja som Mered hade gift sig med.
19Söner till Hodias hustru, Nachams syster, var far till garmén Keila och maakatén Eshtemoa.4:19 Grundtexten är svårförståelig och översättningen osäker. Möjligen kan Hodia betyda judeiska, hans judeiska hustru.
20Shimons söner var Amnon, Rinna, Ben-Hanan och Tilon.
Jishis söner var Sochet och Ben-Sochet4:20 Eller Sochets son..
21Shelas, Judas sons, söner var Er, som var far till Leka, Lada, som var far till Maresha och stamfar till släkterna som var linnearbetare i Bet Ashbea, 22Jokim, männen i Koseva och Joash och Saraf, som hade härskat i Moab och sedan återvänt till Betlehem, enligt gamla uppteckningar. 23Dessa var krukmakare i Netaim och Gedera och stod i kungens tjänst.

24Simons söner var Nemuel, Jamin, Jariv, Serach och Saul.
25Shallum var hans son. Shallums son var Mivsam och dennes son Mishma.
26Mishmas söner var Hammuel, hans son Sackur och sonen Shimi.
27Shimi hade sexton söner och sex döttrar, men ingen av hans bröder hade många barn. Deras släkt blev inte lika stor som Judas. 28De bodde i Beer Sheva, Molada och Hasar Shual, 29Bilha, Esem, Tolad, 30Betuel, Horma, Siklag, 31Bet Markavot, Hasar Susim, Bet Biri och Shaarajim. Dessa var deras städer ända fram till Davids regeringstid, 32liksom deras fem byar, Etam, Ajin, Rimmon, Token och Ashan 33och andra byar ända bort till Baal. Det var där de bodde och de förde ett eget släktregister.
34Vidare: Meshovav, Jamlek, Josha, Amasjas son, 35Joel, Jehu, Joshivjas son, som var son till Seraja och sonson till Asiel, 36Eljoenaj, Jaakova, Jeshochaja, Asaja, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaja 37och Sisa, son till Shifi, son till Allon, son till Jedaja, son till Shimri och son till Shemaja.
38Dessa uppräknade var namn på hövdingar för sina släkter. Deras familjer förökade sig mycket 39och drog fram mot Gedor, till östra sidan av dalen för att söka betesmarker för sin småboskap.
40De upptäckte rika, goda betesmarker i ett vidsträckt och fridfullt land där hamiter hade bott. 41De som här uppräknats vid namn kom under Hiskias regeringstid i Juda. De rev ner hamiternas tält och boplatser som fanns där. De förintade dem, så att de inte mer finns till, och tog området i besittning därför att där fanns betesmark för deras hjordar.
42Senare begav sig 500 av dessa män från Simons stam till berget Seir. Deras ledare var Pelatja, Nearja, Refaja och Ussiel, söner till Jishi. 43Där dödade de alla som fortfarande fanns kvar av amalekiterna. Sedan bosatte de sig där och har bott där sedan dess.
