1Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines. 2And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought gifts.

11¶ Them also king David dedicated unto the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek. 12Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.18.12 Abishai: Heb. 13¶ And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David’s servants. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

(2 Sm 8.1-14)
1Depois disto, David venceu e submeteu os filisteus, conquistou Gate e as localidades da vizinhança.
2Também conquistou Moabe e obrigou o seu povo a pagar-lhe um tributo anual.
3Conquistou o domínio do rei Hadadezer, de Zobá, até a Hamate, quando este rei tinha ido confirmar o seu domínio ao longo do rio Eufrates. 4David capturou 1000 dos seus carros, 7000 cavaleiros e 20 000 soldados. Inutilizou os cavalos dos seus carros de combate, à exceção de uma centena que guardou para seu próprio uso.
5Quando os arameus vieram de Damasco para socorrer Hadadezer, David matou 22 000 deles. 6David pôs várias guarnições militares em Damasco, e os arameus tornaram-se seus súbditos, pagando-lhe um tributo anual. O Senhor concedia-lhe sempre vitórias, para onde quer que se virasse.
7Trouxe também para Jerusalém os escudos de ouro que os oficiais do rei Hadadezer usavam, 8assim como uma grande quantidade de bronze das cidades de Tibate e de Cum, pertencentes ao rei Hadadezer. Mais tarde, o rei Salomão mandou derreter esse bronze e empregou-o no templo, fazendo com ele o mar de bronze, os pilares e os instrumentos usados nos sacrifícios sobre o altar.
9Quando o rei Toú de Hamate ouviu narrar todas as vitórias de David sobre o exército de Hadadezer, rei de Zobá, 10enviou o seu filho Hadorão para felicitá-lo, visto que Hadadezer e Toú eram inimigos, e apresentar-lhe muitos presentes de ouro, prata e bronze. 11O rei David consagrou tudo isso ao Senhor, tal como fizera com o ouro e a prata trazidos das nações de Edom, Moabe, Amon, Filisteia e Amaleque.
12Por essa altura, Abisai, filho de Zeruía, destruiu 18 000 edomitas no vale do Sal. 13Colocou também guarnições militares em Edom, de forma que toda essa nação foi obrigada a pagar tributo a Israel, outro exemplo da forma como o Senhor o tornou vitorioso para onde quer que se dirigisse.

14David reinou com justiça sobre Israel, dirigindo as causas do seu povo com toda a equidade.
15Joabe, filho de Zeruía, era o general do seu exército.
O seu secretário para os assuntos da governação era Jeosafá, filho de Ailude.
16Zadoque, filho de Aitube, e Aimeleque, filho de Abiatar, eram os sacerdotes;
Savsa era o secretário particular do rei.
17Benaia, filho de Jeoiada, era o chefe da guarda pessoal do rei, formada por cretenses e peleteus.
Os filhos do rei eram os seus assistentes diretos.
