1Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains. 2Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.
3¶ And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, 4Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in: 5For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.17.5 have gone: Heb. have been 6Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars? 7Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:17.7 from following: Heb. from after 8And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth. 9Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning, 10And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.
11¶ And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever. 13I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee: 14But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore. 15According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
16¶ And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto? 17And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God. 18What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant. 19O LORD, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.17.19 great…: Heb. greatnesses 20O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 21And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt? 22For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God. 23Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said. 24Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee. 25For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.17.25 hast…: Heb. hast revealed the ear of thy servant 26And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant: 27Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.17.27 let…: or, it hath pleased thee
Promesa de Dios a David
17:1-15 – 2S 7:1-17
1Una vez instalado en su palacio, David dijo al profeta Natán:
—¡Aquí me tienes, habitando un palacio de cedro, mientras que el arca del pacto del Señor se encuentra bajo una tienda!
2—Bien —respondió Natán—. Haga usted lo que su corazón dicte, pues Dios está con usted.
3Pero aquella misma noche la palabra de Dios vino a Natán y le dijo:
4«Ve y dile a mi siervo David que así dice el Señor: “No serás tú quien me construya una casa para que yo la habite. 5Desde el día en que liberé a Israel hasta el día de hoy, no he habitado en casa alguna, sino que he ido de campamento en campamento y de tienda en tienda. 6Todo el tiempo que anduve con Israel, ¿acaso le reclamé a alguno de los jefes17:6 jefes. Véase Jue 2:16. a los que ordené pastorear a mi pueblo el no haberme construido una casa de cedro?”.
7»Pues bien, dile a mi siervo David que así dice el Señor de los Ejércitos: “Yo te saqué del redil para que, en vez de cuidar ovejas, gobernaras a mi pueblo Israel. 8Yo he estado contigo por dondequiera que has ido y he aniquilado a todos tus enemigos. Y ahora voy a hacerte tan famoso como los más grandes de la tierra. 9También voy a designar un lugar para mi pueblo Israel, y allí los plantaré para que puedan vivir sin sobresaltos. Sus malvados enemigos no volverán a oprimirlos como lo han hecho desde el principio, 10desde los días en que nombré jefes sobre mi pueblo Israel. Yo derrotaré a todos tus enemigos.
»”Además, te anuncio que yo, el Señor, te edificaré una casa. 11Cuando tu vida llegue a su fin y vayas a reunirte con tus antepasados, yo pondré en el trono a uno de tus descendientes, a uno de tus hijos, y afirmaré su reino. 12Será él quien construya una casa en mi honor y yo afirmaré su trono para siempre. 13Yo seré su Padre y él será mi hijo. Jamás le negaré mi amor, como se lo negué a quien reinó antes que tú. 14Al contrario, para siempre lo estableceré sobre mi casa y mi reino, y su trono quedará establecido para siempre”».
15Natán comunicó todo esto a David, tal como lo había recibido por revelación.
Oración de David
17:16-27 – 2S 7:18-29
16Luego el rey David se presentó ante el Señor y dijo:
«Señor y Dios, ¿quién soy yo y qué es mi familia para que me hayas hecho llegar tan lejos? 17Como si esto fuera poco, oh Dios, has hecho promesas a este tu siervo en cuanto al futuro de su casa. ¡Me has tratado como si fuera yo un hombre muy importante, Señor y Dios!
18»¿Qué más podría decir del honor que has dado a tu siervo, si tú me conoces? 19Señor, tú has hecho todas estas grandes maravillas, por amor a tu siervo, según tu voluntad, y las has dado a conocer.
20»Señor, nosotros mismos hemos aprendido que no hay nadie como tú y que aparte de ti no hay Dios. 21¿Y qué nación se puede comparar con tu pueblo Israel? Es la única nación en la tierra que tú has redimido para hacerla tu propio pueblo y para dar a conocer tu nombre. Hiciste grandes y asombrosas maravillas cuando al paso de tu pueblo, al cual redimiste de Egipto, expulsaste a las naciones y a sus dioses. 22Adoptaste a Israel para que fuera tu pueblo para siempre y para que tú, Señor, fueras su Dios.
23»Y ahora, Señor, mantén para siempre la promesa que has hecho a tu siervo y a su casa. Cumple tu palabra 24para que tu nombre permanezca y sea exaltado por siempre, para que todos digan: “¡El Señor de los Ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, es Dios para Israel!”. Entonces la casa de tu siervo David quedará establecida en tu presencia.
25»Tú, Dios mío, le has revelado a tu siervo el propósito de establecerle una casa y por eso tu siervo se ha atrevido a hacerte esta súplica. 26¡Oh Señor, tú eres Dios y has prometido tanta bondad a tu siervo! 27Te has dignado bendecir a la familia de tu siervo, de modo que bajo tu protección exista para siempre. Tú, Señor, la has bendecido y por eso quedará bendita para siempre».
