1私は自分に言い聞かせました。
「不平を言うのはやめよう。
特に、神を信じない者たちがそばにいる間は。」
2-3ところが、おし黙っている私の心の中では、
すさまじい暴風が吹き荒れているのです。
思いにふければふけるほど、
体の中で火が燃え上がります。
私はたまりかねて口を開き、
神にとりすがりました。
4主よ、地上で生きる年月などわずかであることを
私にわからせてください。
ここにいるのもあとほんの少しだと、
思い知らせてください。
5-6残りの生涯は手の幅ほどもありません。
私の一生など、神から見れば
ただの一瞬にすぎません。
人は、なんとおごり高ぶることでしょう。
人のいのちは息のようにはかないものです。
しかも、どんなにあくせくしようと、
何一つ残せるわけではありません。
他人に渡すために、富を築くようなものです。
7神よ。私はあなたにだけ望みをかけているのです。
8私が罪に負けないように助けてください。
そうでないと、愚かな者どもまでが、
私をさげすみますから。
9主よ。もう私は何も申し上げません。
不平がましいことなどひと言も口にしません。
罰をお下しになるのはあなたですから。
10主よ、これ以上、私を打たないでください。
おかげで私は、息も絶え絶えです。
11ひとたびあなたから罪を罰せられれば、
だれでも倒れてしまいます。
人は、虫に食われた衣類のようにもろく、
霧のようにはかないものですから。
12ああ主よ、私の祈りを聞いてください。
この涙ながらの訴えに耳を貸してください。
私の涙などそ知らぬ顔で傍観しないでください。
私はあなたに招かれた客ではありませんか。
先祖同様、この地上を仮の宿とする旅人なのです。
13どうかこのいのちをお助けください。
死ぬ前にもう一度、元気になりたいのです。
喜びに満たされたいのです。
