1いつも春になると戦いが始まりましたが、翌年の春、ヨアブはイスラエル軍を率いて、アモン人の町や村を襲撃し、片っぱしから占領しました。さらにラバの町を包囲し、ダビデ王がエルサレムにとどまっている間に、これも攻め落としました。 2ダビデは戦場に到着すると、ラバの王から冠を奪い、自分の頭に載せました。冠は宝石がちりばめられており、金一タラント（約三十四キログラム）の重さがありました。このほかにも、おびただしい数の戦利品を持ち帰り、 3また、その町の住民を連れて来て、のこぎり、鉄のつるはし、斧などを使う仕事につかせました。占領したアモン人のすべての町の住民も同じようにしました。それから、ダビデと全軍はエルサレムに帰りました。
ペリシテ人との戦い
4その後、ゲゼルでは、再びペリシテ人との戦いが始まりました。しかし、フシャ出身のシベカイが巨人の子孫シパイを倒したので、ペリシテ人は戦意を失って降伏しました。
5それとは別のペリシテ人との戦いがあった時、ヤイルの子エルハナンは、巨人ゴリヤテの兄弟ラフミを殺しました。ラフミの槍の柄は、まるで機織棒のようでした。
6-7また、ガテで戦いがあった時、手足の指が六本ずつという巨人の子孫がイスラエルを罵倒しましたが、ダビデの兄シムアの子ヨナタンが彼を打ち殺しました。 8彼らはみなガテの巨人の子孫で、ダビデとその家来たちによって殺されました。
1And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem.
