エルサレムの荒廃と悲しみ
1かつて人々でにぎわっていたエルサレムの通りが、
今はひっそり静まり返っています。
諸国の女王だった町は今では奴隷のようで、
悲しみに沈む未亡人のように座り込んで嘆いています。
2夜通し泣いて、涙が彼女の頬を伝います。
恋人たち（エジプトや他の同盟国）は、
誰ひとり声をかけてもくれません。
今ではみな、敵となっているからです。
3ユダは労役で苦しんだ果てに、
捕囚となって遠い国へ引いて行かれたのです。
今は征服者の手に落ち、
外国で不安な毎日を過ごしています。
4シオン（エルサレム）への道は、
神殿で例祭を祝うにぎやかな参拝客の列も途絶え、
すっかりさびれて、憂いに沈んでいます。
都の城門はさびつき、祭司たちはうめき、
おとめたちは悲しみに打ちひしがれています。
シオンは泣き伏しています。
5敵がわがもの顔に振る舞っています。
エルサレムの多くの罪のために、
主が罰を加えたからです。
幼い子どもたちは捕らえられ、
奴隷として遠くへ連れ去られました。
6シオンの美しさも威厳も、すっかりなくなりました。
指導者たちは、
あてもなく牧草地をさまよう飢えた鹿のようで、
敵に出会っても逃げる力さえありません。
7エルサレムは悲しみのどん底で、
過ぎ去った楽しい日々を思い浮かべます。
今はもう、
援助の手を伸ばしてくれる者もなく、
屈した敵の前で、あざけりの的となっています。
8エルサレムは罪に罪を重ねたので、
汚いぼろきれのように捨てられました。
丸裸にされ、人前にさらされ、
かつては尊敬の眼で見た人たちも、
今では軽蔑のまなざしを向けるだけです。
彼女はあまりの恥ずかしさにうめき、顔を隠します。
9この都は不品行の罪にうつつを抜かし、
確実に罰が下るという事実に
顔を背けていました。
落ちぶれてしまった今、
だれも助けてくれないので、彼女は叫びます。
「ああ主よ、私の不幸に目を留めてください。
敵はあんなに勝ち誇っています。」
10敵は貴重品をすべて取り上げ、
彼女を無一物にしました。
そればかりか、神聖な神殿を荒らし回りました。
そこに入ることさえ神が禁じた外国人によって。
11民はうめき、必死にパンを探し求めます。
持ち物を全部売り払い、少しでも体力を回復しようと、
食べ物をあさります。
「主よ、ごらんください。
私がどんなにさげすまれているかを
知ってください」とエルサレムは祈ります。
12道行く人よ、何とも思わないのですか。
主が燃える怒りの日に、
こんなにも私を悩ませたのです。
これ以上の悲しみを見たことがあるでしょうか。
13主が天から送った火は、
私の骨の中で燃え続けています。
主は行く道に落とし穴を置き、私を追い返しました。
私を病気にしたまま置き去りにし、
つらい思いをさせました。
14主は私の罪を編んで綱とし、
それで私を引いて、奴隷のくびきに結びつけました。
私を骨抜きにして、敵の手に渡しました。
私は敵のなすがままになっています。
15主は味方の勇士をみな踏みつけました。
主の命令によって強力な軍隊が押し寄せて来て、
すぐれた若者たちを倒しました。
主は愛する都を、
酒ぶねのぶどうのように踏みつぶしました。
16このことで、私は泣いています。
私を助けられるのは主だけだというのに、
主は私を慰めもせず、遠く離れて立っています。
子どもたちに未来はありません。
私たちは征服された民です。
17エルサレムは助けを求めて哀願しますが、
だれも慰めてくれません。
主がこう語ったからです。
「隣人が敵となれ。
この都は悪臭を放つぼろきれのように、
投げ捨てられてしまうがいい。」
18主がこう言うのも、もっともなことです。
私たちは神に反逆したからです。
しかし、すべての国々の民よ、
私の苦悩と絶望に目を留めてください。
息子も、娘も、
奴隷として遠い国へ引いて行かれました。
19私は同盟国の助けを求めましたが、
彼らは少しも役に立たず、がっかりするばかりでした。
祭司も、長老も、同じことでした。
彼らは、残飯をあさってうろつきながら、
道ばたで飢え死にしたのです。
20主よ、私の苦しみに目を留めてください。
私の心は傷つき、たましいは絶望にあえいでいます。
私がひどく背いたからです。
外に出ると、剣が待ち伏せし、
家にいても、病気と死が私を捕らえて放しません。
21私のうめきを聞いてください。
助けてくれる者はどこにもいません。
敵は私が苦しんでいるのを聞きました。
彼らは、主が私に罰を加えたと知って、
喜んでいます。
しかし主よ。お約束どおり、
彼らも私と同じ目に会う時が来るはずです。
22主よ、彼らの罪にも目を留め、
あなたが私に下したのと同じ罰を
彼らにも下してください。
私はため息をくり返し、
私の心はしおれきっているのです。
