批判し合ってはいけない
1あなたがたの仲間に加わりたいという人がいたら、たとえ信仰の弱い人であっても、心を開いて迎え入れなさい。考えが違うからといって批判してはいけません。 2偶像に供えられた肉を食べてもよいかどうかで議論してはいけません。あなたがたは、偶像に供えられた肉を食べても別に悪くはないと信じているかもしれません。しかし、ほかの人たちの信仰はもっと弱いのです。彼らは、偶像に供えられた肉を食べるのは悪いとして肉を食べず、むしろ野菜を食べるほうがよいと思っています。 3肉を食べてもよいと思っている人は、食べない人を見下してはいけません。また、食べない人も食べる人を非難してはいけません。神はそのどちらをも受け入れて、ご自分の子どもとしてくださったからです。 4どちらも神に仕えているのであって、人に仕えているわけではありません。神に対して責任を負うのであって、人に対して責任を負うのではありません。正しいか、まちがっているかは、神がその人に教えてくださるはずです。 5ある人は、神を礼拝する特別な日として、クリスチャンもユダヤ教の祝祭日を守るべきだと考えています。しかし、他の人は、どの日もみな同様に神の日なのだから、いちいちそんな面倒なことをするのはまちがっている、と言います。こうした問題については、一人一人が自分で判断しなければなりません。 6もし、主を礼拝するために特別な日を守っているなら、主をあがめようとしてすることなので、良いことなのです。偶像に供えた肉を食べる人についても、同じことが言えます。彼はその肉のことで主に感謝しているのですから、正しいのです。そんな肉には触れようともしない人もまた、主に喜んでいただこうと願うからそうするのであって、感謝しているのです。
7私たちは、自分のために存在しているのではなく、主のために存在しているのです。 8私たちは主のものであり、生きるにしても死ぬにしても主に従うのです。 9キリストが死んで復活したのは、私たちが生きている時も死んでいる時も、キリストが私たちの主となられることでした。
10あなたがたには、自分の兄弟（信仰を同じくする人）を批判したり、見下したりする資格はありません。だれもが神のさばきの座の前に立つことを、忘れてはなりません。 11次のように書いてあるとおりです。
「主は言われる。わたしは生きている。
すべてのひざは、わたしの前にかがめられ、
すべての舌は、神に告白する。」（イザヤ45・23）
12このように、一人一人が、神の前に申し開きをすることになります。
13ですから、これからはもう批判し合うことのないようにしましょう。むしろ、人をつまずかせないようにすることを心がけましょう。兄弟が「悪いことだ」と信じていることを目の前で行って、彼をつまずかせてはいけません。 14私が主イエスの権威に基づいて確信しているのは、それ自体汚れているものは何一つないということです。ですから、偶像に供えた肉を食べることは悪くありません。しかし、それを悪いと信じている人がいるなら、悪いことは避けるべきですから、その人は食べてはいけません。 15兄弟があなたの食べる物のことで心を痛めているのに、平気でいるとしたら、愛によって行動しているとは言えません。あなたの食べる物のことで人を滅ぼしてはなりません。その人のためにも、キリストは死なれたのです。 16たとえ自分の行為は正しいとわかっていても、人の批判の的になるようなことをしてはなりません。 17私たちクリスチャンにとって大切なのは、何を食べるか、何を飲むかではなく、義と平安と聖霊から来る喜びとに満ちあふれているかどうかだからです。 18このようにキリストに仕えてこそ、神に喜ばれ、また、人々にも喜ばれるのです。
19こうして、教会においては平和をはかり、互いに助け合って成長するように努めましょう。 20食べ物の問題で、神の働きを台なしにしてはなりません。肉そのものは悪くなくても、それが他人のつまずきとなるなら、肉を食べるのはよくないということを忘れないでください。 21肉だけに限りません。飲酒でも、そのほか何でも、兄弟のつまずきになるようなことをしないのは正しい行いです。
22自分のしていることが神の目から見て潔白だと思っていても、その確信は心にしまっておきなさい。正しいと思うことをして、それが罪を犯すことにならない人こそ幸せです。 23しかし、「自分がしようとしていることは悪いことだ」と思いつつしている人は、してはなりません。悪いと思うことをするのは、すべて罪です。
The Weak and the Strong
1Accept the person whose faith is weak. Don’t argue with them where you have differences of opinion. 2One person’s faith allows them to eat anything. But another person eats only vegetables because their faith is weak. 3The person who eats everything must not look down on the one who does not. And the one who doesn’t eat everything must not judge the person who does. That’s because God has accepted them. 4Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? Whether they are faithful or not is their own master’s concern. And they will be faithful, because the Lord has the power to make them faithful.
5One person considers one day to be more holy than another. Another person thinks all days are the same. Each of them should be absolutely sure in their own mind. 6Whoever thinks that one day is special does so to honor the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to honor the Lord. They give thanks to God. And whoever doesn’t eat meat does so to honor the Lord. They also give thanks to God. 7We don’t live for ourselves only. And we don’t die for ourselves only. 8If we live, we live to honor the Lord. If we die, we die to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9Christ died and came back to life. He did this to become the Lord of both the dead and the living.
10Now then, who are you to judge your brother or sister? Why do you act like you’re better than they are? We will all stand in God’s courtroom to be judged. 11It is written,
“ ‘You can be sure that I live,’ says the Lord.
‘And you can be just as sure that everyone will kneel down in front of me.
Every tongue will have to tell the truth about God.’ ” (Isaiah 45:23)
12So we will all have to explain to God the things we have done.
13Let us stop judging one another. Instead, decide not to put anything in the way of a brother or sister. Don’t put anything in their way that would make them trip and fall. 14I am absolutely sure that nothing is “unclean” in itself. The Lord Jesus has convinced me of this. But someone may consider a thing to be “unclean.” If they do, it is “unclean” for them. 15Your brother or sister may be upset by what you eat. If they are, you are no longer acting as though you love them. So don’t destroy them by what you eat. Remember that Christ died for them. 16So suppose you know something is good. Then don’t let it be spoken of as if it were evil. 17God’s kingdom is not about eating or drinking. It is about doing what is right and having peace and joy. All this comes through the Holy Spirit. 18Those who serve Christ in this way are pleasing to God. They are pleasing to people too.
19So let us do all we can to live in peace. And let us work hard to build up one another. 20Don’t destroy the work of God because of food. All food is “clean.” But it’s wrong to eat anything that might cause problems for someone else’s faith. 21Don’t eat meat if it causes your brother or sister to sin. Don’t drink wine or do anything else that will make them sin.
22Whatever you believe about these things, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the person who doesn’t feel guilty for what they do. 23But whoever has doubts about what they eat is guilty if they eat. That’s because their eating is not based on faith. Everything that is not based on faith is sin.
